  • Bourbon Chicken - Crispy pieces of chicken in a sweet, soy, garlic, ginger and Bourbon sauce. An American food court favourite - ready in less than 25 minutes!
    Free printable recipe is available on our site: www.kitchensanctuary.com/bour...
    Ingredients:
    Chicken:
    750 g (1.65lbs) skinless, boneless chicken thigh fillets (trimmed)
    2 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch in USA)
    ¼ tsp salt
    ¼ tsp black pepper
    3 tbsp oil
    3 cloves garlic peeled and minced
    1 tsp minced ginger
    Bourbon Sauce:
    3 tbsp light soy sauce (use low sodium if preferred)
    2 tbsp dark soy sauce (use low sodium if preferred)
    1 tbsp cornflour cornstarch in USA
    180 ml (¾ cup) chicken stock (use low sodium if preferred)
    4 tbsp bourbon whisky replace with apple juice + 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce if preferred
    5 tbsp light brown sugar
    To Serve:
    Boiled rice or egg fried rice
    spring onions scallions thinly sliced
    sesame seeds
    Instructions
    1. First make the bourbon sauce. Add the light and dark soy sauce to a small bowl or jug. Stir in the cornflour until dissolved.
    2. Add the chicken stock, bourbon and sugar and stir together. Put to one side.
    3. Place the chicken in a bowl and sprinkle on the cornflour, salt and pepper. Toss together to thoroughly coat.
    4. Heat the oil in a large frying pan (skillet) over a medium-high heat.
    5. Add the chicken to the pan and cook for 8-12 minutes, turning a few times during cooking, until golden brown and cooked through.
    6. Turn the heat down to medium and add the garlic and ginger.
    7. Fry for a further 30 seconds, moving everything round in the pan, using a spoon or spatula, constantly.
    8. Pour in the sauce and turn the heat back up to medium-high. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring often, until the chicken is coated, and sauce thickens.
    9. Turn off the heat, remove the chicken from the pan, roughly slice and place back in the sauce, stir to coat. (optional if you want the food hall style chicken bites)
    10. Serve over rice, topped with spring onions and sesame seeds.

    First comment! Will have to give this one a try. Can't tell you how much bourbon chicken I ate in mall food courts in the 90's.

      @@Kitchensanctuary They'd give you a free sample on a toothpick. Make the rounds for the free samples, including the Chick-fil-A, then head back and get the bourbon chicken.

    Looks delicious Nickie, but I am curious as to why you didn't dice the chicken beforehand?

    • @HenryJinxton
      @HenryJinxton 9 дней назад

      This was my question as well. I think it would be simpler to dice the chicken first without much impact on the final dish but if it turns to mush or loses balance of flavor I guess I will have gotten my comeuppance for thinking too much...🤣

    Not a big fan of whisky but love it used in cooked sauces or chocolate sauces/ganache. Another beautiful video with a very tasty recipe. Wanted inspiration for something easier than I normally do, yet very tasty of course, for this Sunday, and I found it now! Thank you 👌😍

    I find that a Tennessee Whiskey tends to give a more Bourbon like flavor for cooking.

  • @juliehale9491
    @juliehale9491 13 дней назад

    I never thought I would criticise anything you cook even if I personally don’t eat some of the ingredients.
    When I saw the ingredients and looked at the title I thought OMG Bourbon who can afford that even whiskey which I believe tastes nothing like bourbon is expensive especially if like my family we wouldn’t drink it.
    I think you misunderstand some of your subscribers we are not all earning enough to pay that, next time please remember we the normal subscribers are on a budget.

      You again? You're the troll that left a comment on her last video that one should just go buy a bottle of sauce. Save that "I would criticise (sic) anything you cook" for the birds. You just criticized the lady on her last video. You have something bad to say every time I've ever seen one of your comments.

    • @HenryJinxton
      @HenryJinxton 12 дней назад +2

      Wow. I don't drink bourbon either but stopping at the liquor store to buy two miniature bottles of bourbon to cook with wasn't expensive at all. If you think you need to buy a whole bottle of expensive sipping bourbon because the recipe called for two ounces, you should reexamine your thought process. You appear to be someone just looking for attention, especially with your final comments! I hope Nicky doesn't even read your comment and that you stop commenting on her posts.
