AVROTROS dissagreed with the disqualification and called it disproportional. It was the EBU who disqualified The Netherlands. Not the Avrotros. So what you have written here is not correct.

And the Germans be like: "Ohne Holland fahr'n wir zum Grand Prix..." In all seriousness, though, I hope the EBU will be transparent about what they consider "inappropriate" behaviour after the grand final is over. I get they don't want to distract from the show "before the party is over". But transparency is ultimately the only way to go here: Either, it was something obvious that clearly warrants disqualification (i.e., on which most fans will agree once they find out); or it's something that's much more up for debate, and in that case, that debate must be had. The EBU have already been accused in the past of having somewhat arbitrary standards with regards to what they consider in line with the contest rules and what they don't.
The problem is that this is already blowing up in EBU's faces though. Like... i am 100% convinced that while EBU said not to vote for Europapa, a lot of people are gonna vote on it anyways out of protest.

This year (in combination with the decision to exclude Russia from the competition in 2022) has highlighted that EBU needs to reflect on why a country or performer would be prevented from appearing. The argument that it's just about individual competitors, not states, kinda works for allowing an Israeli competitor this and some sort of action re. Joost (maybe not total disqualification)... But then it negates excluding Russia from the competition. And if the justification there is about military action within the Eurovision "family" of countries - what about the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia? It just feels so inconsistent and frustrating.
Think Belarusians are also banned for not imposing sanctions on Rus, and not denouncing them. All of that is so normal for a "song contes" :) but it was like that for decades
So ESC should tolerate bad behaviour, including threatening their staff? The guy's a coward and a thug, and the ESC made the right decision, good on them.
Mmh. For a contest that should unite us... We all couldn't be further divided. As Joost said "No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, there's only this moment, so lets come together."
The Dutch broadcaster is angry with the decision of the Eurovision Song Contest organization EBU. "AVROTROS finds the disqualification disproportionate and is shocked by the decision. We deeply regret it and will come back to it later," says AVROTROS director Taco Zimmerman. EBU made the decision due to a complaint against the artist. But the incident for which Joost Klein was disqualified 'is hardly anything', says Cornald Maas, who is a member of the Dutch selection committee.
It is interesting that AVROTROS put out this statement because broadcasters are normally very cautious about putting themselves in a bad light concerning matters like this. They could have made it quite neutral and bland about being disappointed not to participate but they chose to criticise the decision. We definitely haven't heard the end of this.
@Jacques.dAnjou Fair enough. I don't know anything about the Dutch media landscape. It's still interesting that they chose to criticise the decision publicly rather than keep it behind closed doors.

Its very sad - i hope justice is served. If Joost is found innocent i hope he returns next year. I think he is by the sound of it. I find it hard not to see a connection - he calls out Eden and the very next day when hes on before her this happens. It may be totally unconected but i find that hard to believe.
Not everything is about Israel. Joost's demeanor in the press conference after the second semifinal was very telling of his character. And I'm not talking about the "Why not?" thing only.
While we don't know all the details, I disapprove of how the EBU is handling this. If it is certain what he did, tell us exactly what happened so we can understand the seriousness of it. If it is still under investigation though, let him perform. If later he is found prosecuted and found guilty, take away his placement and disqualify him after the fact. To disqualify before without concrete ruling feels out of place and disproportionate. The EBU needs to either communicate clearly or let him perform. Or this will just leave a sour taste on top of everything else. Side note, I feel sadden by this because a lot of my non-esc bubble friends are experiencing Eurovision for their first time this year and I feel terrible for bringing them in in a year where everything is a mess. So infuriatingly disproportional. Especially when isreal delegation was allowed to harrass so many of the other contestants. And not even to mention the horrible acts the country has been committing.
Being from the Netherlands myself I cannot imagine that the EBU will take such a decision lightly, so something must have happened something rather serious there. I am looking forward to the explanation that will be given at a certain time, as the public deserves to know the reasons behind such a drastic measure.
The question is WHAT has happend? Did someone sucker Joost Klein into something? Or did he really do something that can not be tollerated? The problem is whe don't KNOW.
There have been disqualifications in the past, but never because of the artist's behaviour - always because of the broadcasters: Romania was expelled in 2016 for not paying their debts, but they returned the year afterwards right away - Ovidiu Anton was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. With Belarus, it was ultimately the broadcaster, too. And had Israel been disqualified this year, it would have been because of the broadcaster insisting on using the original lyrics for "October Rain". The closest artists got to getting disqualified was probably Denmark's "I wanna f you" during the voting in 2011; Iveta Mukuchyan waving the Artsakh flag in the greenroom in 2016; and, of course, the allegations towards Måneskin for "holding their noses too close to the table" during the final, which turned out to be null and void. Btw, I really think Måneskin should use this year's opportunity to do a (possibly English or Italian) cover of "(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi"... 😅
Thx for your commentary. I’m really shocked. Slimane broke off his performance and Silvestras left the stage after the performance crying… it’s getting to the artists.
We do need to be careful what we say, the facts may come out but we don’t know what was said. For a complaint to be raised by a person the words said must of crossed a line. There are no winners here all parties, fans, family are reeling from this news. I hope that Joost is surrounded by the right ppl and getting support.
The absolute dumpster fire that this years contest has become…. EBU throwing the rules in a bucket and plucking out random ones to follow and break. Righto 👌🏻
How they can disqualified him without proves? EBU should have approved him to participate at the final and after the investigation to decide what to do with him score.
Except for one i feel so bad for the other contestants, they have worked so hard to get here. I hope the truth will come out. Some organisations use these tactics and doing it to him would be sure to divert the attention. But they have no clue just how much it will backfire if it turns out to be this. But, if it was just innocent people who got hurt or threatened by Joost then absolutely there should be consequences. The only way to know is to find out what really happened.
He's being investigated about charges brought against him. EBU doesn't allow an entrant undergoing a criminal investigation to compete. What's difficult to understand about that?
Stop idolizing celebrities and wanna- be celebrities. His song is great but obviously he has behavioral issues. This is a huge liability for ESC and would’ve been a thought out decision.
And you think, you know it it all, like you were there. Actually you don't know what's it all about. People are very free in idolizing what they want or not, let it be not of your concern.
If you are a woman working for the organization, you can claim what you want. Out of fear of not doing things correctly, first you punish, then investigate if there is any merrit to the claims. It just sucks that no one seems the actually know what happened. I only read that he insulted someone verbally, not physically... don't we all want to know what he said... then we also let our common sense work instead of speculating... this way is not the way... openness is required... if you throw someone out then also explain why and don't keep it so general...
Seriously.. if the police didn't finished the investigation and EBU not sharing information than Joost will not show in the grand final. It's frustrating
Clarification: Eurovision stated on their site that Israel has NOTHING to do with the so called 'incident'. We can't jump into conclusions and fight for who's right or wrong. Just let's wait for the details. We all know this is overwhelming but it's not important to take it so personal.
So what happened is that Joost was filmed after his act on Thursday. Was agreed up front that he wouldn’t be filmed, but it happened anyway. He reiterated over and over that he didn’t want to be filmed. What got him disqualified is that he made a threatening gesture but didn’t get physical.
The only explanation I can give for this exclusion is that the president of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen probably felt offended and made fun of by Joost Klein's light blue jacket with shoulder pads...

In all seriousness, though, I hope the EBU will be transparent about what they consider "inappropriate" behaviour after the grand final is over.

It was unconnected, the interview along with Israël was just an akward moment.

I hope they do. As well as many other countries. Let the EBU lie in the bed that they have made for themselves. I love this contest more than anything but after everything that has happened since yesterday, I just want the EBU to feel the consequences of their actions.
Yes we should
Justice for Joost 🇳🇱
Justice for the women
Justice and victory for Joost Klein and the Netherlands. And for Europa, of course. Because, that is not Eurovision of European people any more. That is just a corrupt travesty in Malmo. Congratulations to Sweden! You ruined the show!
What will happen if later it turns out he is innocent? I hope the Netherlands will not give points to night.
sadly they will :( kinda angry about that tbh. we should boycott that shit too
If they disqualify him they are surely evidences and witnesses. 🙄

In the official statement it was said that he made a threatening gesture but no actual contact was made. EBU added that it has a zero tolerance attitude to such behaviour. You have to be so careful now. I'm sure he meant no malice but what a stupid thing to do. I hope he's being supported because he must be absolutely distraught.
Joost is very popular in Gaza. They already invited him to celebrate the holyfay of Nakba. Congratulation!
stick to the facts... but what are facts... what is so bad that you disqualify someone...
Eurovision has never truly been about music. We had MTV for that ✌️
I'm glad i live in the Netherlands and not in Sweden
Eurovision is no place for harassment of any kind.....
are you talking about the Israel delegation right? that is constantly harassing every delegation that don't kiss their asses. It was Dutch delegation and Greece yesterday, today was ireland with some disgusting comments, because she had the nerve to say her opinion. But they can do that. God forbids someone speaks their minds about the genocide delegation.
Get a life

Eurovision is no any more just a music and entertainment. It is just a politic and hate now. And corruption too. Congratulations to Juries and Malmo. Suck your winners if you like.
We shouldn't forget. Eurovision is sponsored by Moroccan Oil, an Israeli company. Has the EBU swapped their long-held ideology for financial gain?
Will just just stop! Calm down! It’s a music contest for gods sake!

I also heard that Israel is responsible for climate crisis. United by hate! That’s what you pepper are. Looking to blame….
