This classic Sammy Nestico swinger is from the Count Basie album 'Basie Straight Ahead.' Видеоклипы
Rest in peace Sammy Nestico. 😭😭
Sammy is an amazing arranger. He's one of the few people who can actually write a drum chart. You can actually tell it's going to be a great tune just from the drum score without ever hearing the music. You know exactly what he's thinking.
Jimbo drummerman Billy May was good this way too, he wrote out exactly what he wanted to hear, he didn't just write out a simple swing rhythm then lots of ~~~. He wrote the drum part exactly as he wanted it.
I always enjoy Sammy charts because they include parts of every instrument. As a trombonist I always enjoy playing his tunes. A lot of charts are basically saxophone features with all other instruments as background.
and whats wrong with that?!!! lololol
I loved playing this (lead alto) when I was a kid. Thanks Sammy.
I was lead alto too for this song!
same here!
Used to play this in a swing band, but we played it so STRAIGHT compared to this! The written arrangement we used didn't have half those markings, but then all you need is a band leader who draws it out of you. Stunning!.
I have the joy of playing the Trombone solo. It's a cracking piece of music.
Was the solo written or improv? My band just got this tune and I’m excited for it
@@astronut73 my best friend is lead trombone and from what I’ve heard , I’m pretty sure it’s improvised, but hey I could be wrong
On the sheet music it’s written but completely different. The Solo in the recording was improv. Although I’m trying to transcript his to play since the written one sucks. But this dude is so good the second half of the transcription is difficult
@@rz6634is there anyway you can share the solo when you transcribe it please I want to play it so bad
As a rhythm guitarist, I loved playing Sammy Nestico arrangements - As you can hear, the guitar becomes a major part of the whole drive of the band. The Fm6 going through the mid section is awesome!

Woke up today thinking about this music. I played trumpet in it in 1975 in 7th grade glad to hear it on YT!❤
This is one of my favorite jazz pieces along with Horace Silver's Filthy MacNasty and Time After Time by Sammy Cahn. Thanks for the awesome upload.
Swing de alto nivel, elegancia y garra todo en una obra maestra, increíble sonido e increíble Flow! 😍
Nestico is genius.
feels just like im at the casino in VEGAS!
Just started playing this on electric bass guitar. It’s a challenge to play with some high notes and the velocity. How anyone can play it on a string bass is beyond me. Respect!
This is different from the Basie recording, and better as well. I especially like the trombone harmonies at 0:45 and 1:43
M
man, I dont think so! I mean, I respect your opinion but the sound and production of Basie Straight ahead is such a geniallity
I 💖 Sammy Nestico !!!!!!!
Beth Bartlett --. Yeah - me too.
This song is a special favorite of mine , love playing along with my drums as if your drummer isnt fantastic already, but I love adding an infusion of my own into the mix . Its a great song, and I really enjoyed it!
The essence of jazz.
Love it
Dude I've got to ask, where did you find the beautiful painting of Nestico conducting?
Nailed it Supurb !!!
I like this better than the version on Basie Straight Ahead. Better recording technique.
Agree with you there
I love how it sounds amazing but is definitely playable for trumpets
Good....Jose...Anjos...Good...
Awesome!...thank you so very much :_)
Amazing arrangement and performance! Better than Count Basie`s. My favorite!
I have to disagree. Count Basie's is far better than this. To each their own though.
THE REAL DEAL
I was going to play this in my jazz band as 2nd trombone (gets the written solo) but my conductor somehow didn't like this beautiful piece lol ):
The trombone I’m my school who had this bone solo is going to online RIP
Just played first trumpet for this in whistler last Saturday, felt like shit, not the best but decent. Our clinic ion was very surprised that we played this with only two people in our trombone section and my self the only trumpet.
We have 6 trumpets and two trombones (one being me) in our band. I have to do the trombone solo.
A tough one but so fun

I love this piece when it is in 0.75x

What band recorded this? They sound awesome.
lifted
Can anyone tell me who the trombone solist was? I'm transcribing his solo.
Nick Bell do you have it transcribed? I would LOVE if you could send me a photo of it
Shaniquadomquifa I don't have it written out yet; I'm still getting it in my horn.
Nick Bell I would love to see this transcription too!!
Thank you so much! Let me know when and that'll be so amazing!
Go listen to Jeff uusitalo solo on this chart, way better than this solo. It's also way harder lol
I think Basie version is a little more dynamic then Sammy's = both are great.
What key is this in?
Ab Major

Who's playing this? Maybe lacks a feeling of spontaneity but it's very neat and precise.
SWR Big Band Germany
You have to go a long way to hear something better than this.
My friend plays 1st trumpet and is garbage on this piece!
same. Our trumpets only have one volume, insane forte, especially our lead trumpets. In section G, they would be blasting instead of building it up.

I was 4th trumpet and I was still garbage on this piece lol
i had to play first for this song last year and it was so fun!! lowkey i spent a lot of time on the part but it came out really well!!
@@dreyeezy8671 lol better than no volume in the shout section.
Can someone please send me the trombone solo at 1:08 to 1:41
