  • The Ford Lightning Battery Electric truck is the first shot truck buyers have at owning a 'real' BEV truck with stunning acceleration, horsepower, torque, payload and towing. Is it enough to switch truck owners away from gas or diesel? Watch and decide.
Here’s the top things that set it apart from other trucks.
It has monster specs. 563 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque, more torque than any F-150 in history and a battery power plant with enough juice in it to power your house in the event of an emergency.
There’s a 400 litre ‘frunk’ - a front trunk where the combustion engine would normally take up space. And it has 2.4 kW of Pro Power Onboard. Right away I pictured an electric cooler in there. The dual in-board electric motors are new to F-150 as is the move to an independent rear suspension like the Raptor. It’s quick at 0-60 mph in the mid four seconds, which is faster than the Raptor. 775 lb ft of nearly instantaneous torque like a diesel engine with solid payload and towing numbers but now with no emissions.
The foundation is a 4x4 that goes through rugged testing to handle rough terrain, a high strength aluminum alloy body and a useful max 2000 lb payload and 10,000 lb towing capability. It will be the first 'real' electric available to buy.

Are the unique features like a powered 'frunk' and a home battery back-up enough for you to go battery electric? Or are the longer 'fill' times too large a deterrent?

I am freaked about all electrical vehicles and battery life. The thought of being stranded keeps me from buying one.

There definitely needs to be a heavy-duty version that has a towing capability of 20,000 lb or pay load of 4,000 lb. What do you think?

The short range and long charging times are huge negatives for Interstate travel and people in rural areas. I think this truck will be great for in town until the technology improves to make the 2 issues I mentioned, non issues.

Pretty thorough review with lots of great and impressive benefits. Lets hope time and extensive trials will demonstrate its reliability during constant demand and use truck enthusiasts expect from their vehicles.

Nobody mentions that replacing the batteries on these electric cars is ridiculously Expensive! Until battery prices drop this type of trucks/cars are not for real work.

Lightning Reveal, I was interested until I heard electric! Same problem all electric vehicles have, range, charge time, and what your left with when battery fails post warranty.

Every time I replace my phone when the battery deteriorates i’dhave to do the same for my truck eventually. They haven’t figured out a cost effective way of replacing the battery nor have I read anything that shows an environmentally friendly way of disposing of the batteries. For these reasons, I’m out

I'll pass. The purchase price and the long "fill" time is more than enough to put me off of one. Permanently.

If you drive 100km a day, it recharges in a few hours while you’re sleeping. We’ve driven 150000km in our EVs and haven’t put gas in since 2013.

For the low price of $150,000 sounds like everyone would buy one

I didn’t know truck owners cared about the cost. It’s faster than a raptor and can power a job site or home. With 40% less moving parts, it’s going to be reliable.

I'm sure it reliable and I'm sure those who have lots of money won't care about the price but why not built this trucks for contractor at affordable prices I get it its not for everyone specially for me lol 80k is my limit on a car

It starts at 39K before the 7.5K rebate . You're thinking of a Tesla .

@@ThatsMyBully bro if you know anything about ford, you can just double price figure for the truck that's featured. That's a lariat trim and above. This truck will top out at 80k easy.

And it gets the equivalent of 3mpg when towing a load.
