The problem I'm having is my top plate cutter is too acute. When I raise the arm up and roll the tooth support forward to make it more obtuse, I'm into the tie straps. I think my stone is too thick on the side plate portion, I'm going to try to dress down the top plate portion to thin out the side of the wheel more. Does that make sense? Thanks for sharing this, probably the best Simington grinder video I've found so far.
@@austingriffith1118 the stone could very well be too thick. The stone really only needs to be just a bit thicker than whatever you have your rakers set at since thats all of the side plate that is actually cutting wood. Your chain holder could also maybe be too far back, I generally leave mine set in the middle. If theres anything I can help you with let me know! Thanks for commenting!
@@thattimbersportsdude I do have the chain holder pretty far back - which was intended to keep the side plate cutter angle from being too acute. I just got a stone dresser to help with thinning out the wheel - something like $7 - to preserve the diamond dressers. Thanks for replying.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I primarily cut timber and teach the chainsaw classes. I compete through the summer and then train as much as I can throughout everything else haha.

@ no problem! Also those diamond dressers are all but impossible to wear out so don’t worry too much about those. 💪🏼
Dang, I should have tried to talk you into grinding a few chain's fer me when I came through on my way in from Iowa Tuesday.
This is one cool tool. I would just love to buy me one. Do you know where a good used one is for sale at a reasonable price ???
Good video thanks
Kool-grind is my absolute favorite cheap accessory for grinder. Been using it for 20 years
Good video Aaron. I appreciate the details on the angles you are running. Do you primarily do logging, pruning, safety instruction, competition?

Did you get that at Northern Tools?
Absolutely not, look as hard as you want and you’ll find nothing from there.
What height do you generally run your rakers at?
It depends on what I’m cutting but typically.025 is a great all-around setting.
