5 Steps To Save Money On The Isle of Wight Ferry
    00:13
    1. Avoid peak times and book early - Red Funnel and Wightlink operate like airlines for their car ferries, so prices go up with demand. If you can travel at 3am on a Thursday in February you’ll get a better price than a Saturday in August. Peak times are lunch times from Friday to Sunday. That's not much use if you are planning your summer holiday but consider arriving earlier and have a morning on the Isle of Wight before checking in.

    2. Ask your accommodation provider to book for you if you are paying for accommodation. Booking direct with Red Funnel or Wightlink is not always cheapest. I’ve seen deals of about 50% off - have a look at our guide to holidays including ferry travel: www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/isl...

    3. If that’s not an option look for discount codes. We usually have a couple on our discount ferries page: www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/dis... These range from about 10% off to a third off. Vouchers are sometimes sent out to Islanders in the post, so if you’re staying with a relative, ask them.

    4. Lots of memberships and ongoing deals give you a discount. Tesco Clubcard vouchers are currently worth double via Wightlink. English Heritage members get a discount. Some workplace schemes have a discount. A full list is on our discount ferries page: www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/dis...

    5. Finally If you live on the Isle of Wight or have a second home on the Island, get a Multilink book of tickets from Wightlink. It will save you a lot of money. but there are pros and cons: www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/wig...
Red Funnel also do a deal for regular travellers where you top up £1000 and then receive 20% off.

Another I would add is that a day return is a bit cheaper. We booked a day return to come out, and just didn’t use the ticket back to the mainland that night, and a day return on the day we went home, and didn’t use the ticket back to the island that night. Two day returns was cheaper than one standard return. This was with a car too.

Take your own food if you cannot survive the journey without . The cafe was a bun fight.

Yes, that's good advice. £2.50 for a bottle of water and £4.50 for a sandwich last week!

Thanks Paul. Yes, they still do a good discount. We've written a comparison of the four Parkdean sites here: www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/park-resorts-parkdean-isle-of-wight-holiday-parks.html

It would be great if Wightlink extended their offers that run out in March 2024. Red Funnel have offers all year round. I have no idea why Wightlink don't. Such a shame. I would travel more often.

There are some ongoing offers worth looking into, such as discounts for carers, volunteers, charity workers, NHS workers as well as members of the AA, English Heritage and so on. All the details are on this page: www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/discount-isle-of-wight-ferry-travel.html
