Wow! Excellent stuff; a great story teller working with wonderful material. came here via The Paul Ryder Tapes... sad, beautiful stuff and a firehose of loving relationships. gaz comes across like a groove lovin' buddha. all this and the albums too... sometimes it is a wonderful world
Very funny, Gaz (if I may). That bloke was about as Irish as Jackie Mason (RIP). As you know, the Whelan's (O'Faolain's) were the ruling clan in what is now Co.Waterford up until the 11th century. "Faol" is Irish for wolf; it is believed that the earliest Irish families were descended from animals and us from wolves. How cool is that? The wolf, incidentally, is the only animal that will return a human's gaze: every other is terrified, not least--surprisingly--birds of prey. And how cool too is it to have the French for "flair and style"--elan--in our name? I do hope you get an agent for your memoirs--you'll sell shedloads. An agent told me that "memoirs are the new novels" and there is huge interest in the 1990s. Bon chance!--Kevin Whelan
Catching up on these since watching Angela Smith's series on Paul Ryder, godblessim. I feel like you should have that flute ripple at the end of your stories like Ronnie Corbett used to have on his 'ripping yarn' spot on the Two Ronnies show back in the day! Maybe you should be wearin a Lyle & Scott jumper too. lol Keep it up fella 😆
These are ace, Gaz. Makes a nice change to hear these stories from you. That bit about PD cracked me up. I hope he's ok, he just seemed to disappear not long after the reformation in 2012. Bless him. Take it easy, mate.
