Great instructions. Why do you need the cord in the middle of your braid? I have an old braided whip that needs repair but I believe it has about 10 strands or more leather. I just haven't figured it out yet.
The cord just keeps the braid more round. You don't have to use it but sometimes you can get a flatter looking braid rather than the consistent round shape you want.
What I used was 6-7mm. Yours could be different depending on how your lace was prepared which could make it thicker or thinner than mine. To make sure yours is correct I would use a seizing knot like you were starting the actual project and braid a couple of inches using the same lace you will be using. Then measure a half inch from the knot down what you have braided. You need a fitting slightly larger so when you put the glue in the fitting that you have room to easily slide your braid inside. One mm too large is much better than 1mm too small. Hope that helps.
I have my core and strands attached to something solid but I found if when braiding you pull too much toward you that the core cord will more easily show. I have the core attached to something closer to me and when I braid I pull to tighten just a little more sideways (like maybe 70 degrees) instead of towards me and the other end of the core. After pulling to tighten I usually am holding on to where I just tightened while making the next step so it did not loosen, but you could not see in the video if I did that. Hope that makes sense. It was hard to make the video and keep my fingers out of the way so you could see how it was braided.
I used some of the braiding soap I made in a previous video. It was probably the one using coconut oil but I use all three, depending on what I have on hand. It is simple to make your own and much cheaper. Here is my video with the recipes: ruclips.net/video/v4NsZBUhmCY/видео.html
@@gotstyledesigns perfect! i actually just watched your previous video and made my own coconut oil soap. thanks for the tip! i’m excited to try rolling my braided cord.
@@chrisbogard7632 You are very welcome. Only use a small amount of soap before rolling. I use it mostly for braiding. Glad you found my videos helpful. Thanks!
A lot of detailed steps in making a leather braided necklace. Well worth the effort.
Thanks...glad you like the video!

How big is the diameter of the fitting?

I'm still struggling to braid this without the core cord showing. How do you embed the cord inside

I roll between 2 pieces of marble subway tiles on a silicone mat for no slippage, works fantastic 🙂
Sounds great!
which soap are you using in this video?
