Wow, this is beautiful! Thanks for telling us about the drying times. I just bought an egg timer because I can get impatient sometimes. Thanks so much for sharing this!
What a lovely result. I think I am sometimes too impatient to see the final result, so this would be a great technique to make me slow down. Thank you for this.
Thanks so much. I am really impatient! Honestly, my technique is doing house work. I will set myself a little job to do in between layers e.g. wash the dishes, peel the potatoes for tea. 😂
Yes, it’s pretty cold and wet here in the UK at the moment. I did have to switch the heater off in my studio as it was drying a bit too quickly on the first layer 🙂
Cutting shapes from craft foam is a great idea. I also cut shapes from cardboard and then wrap thread around them to give them some texture, which works well. 🙂
The drying time for me is usually around 3 minutes, but it really depends on the temperature of the room you are printing in. I trust the touch dry, I also look at the Gelli plate from an angle, you can normally see if little areas aren’t dry. Hope this helps 🙂
Thank you, no I have just used the acrylic paint straight from the tube. I did have to turn the heater off in my studio, beautiful it was drying a bit quick 🙂
Hi, No, it doesn’t leave a permanent indent in the plate. The pebbles I’m using are smooth. I wouldn’t press anything with sharp edges onto the plate. 🙂
Hi Clare, wonder if you can help….i tried this today, thin layer of Amsterdam Prussian blue, used pebbles. Left for about 3 hours to dry then came back with thin layer of system 3 pale blue. When I placed pebbles on the pale blue layer, they lifted off most of the paint from the layer below, and not in a good way. Any advise as to what I did wrong?
Hi Deborah, I only leave the layers to dry for a few minutes not hours, but I don’t think that would make a difference. The pebbles do remove some paint, you do want this to happen so you create ‘windows’ so you can see through the layers. Maybe try not pressing as hard so they are just picking up the wet layer of paint. Can you send me a picture on instagram @c.cosens so I can see if anything else springs to mind. 🙂
Great channel. Gelli printing is so fun and I hope you keep videoing your journey. Thank you

Thank you! An egg timer is a great idea, I must try that. I am extremely impatient and have to distract myself. 😊

You are so welcome! Thank you for watching 😊
Beautiful print, thank you!
Glad you like it! 🙂
This is excellent Clare, much appreciated, will have to add slow drying medium here in Western Australia or splurge on a few slow drying acrylics 😍

Brilliant! Thank you

Fabulous thanks for sharing.Just found your channel tonight.Great explanation and nice voice.❤
Thank you Lorraine! I’m new to RUclips and your feedback is greatly received 🙂
Very cool! No idea where I’d find flat pebbles though-maybe I could cut shapes from craft foam?

Excellent! Regarding layers, I thi k of it as a pineapple upside down cake. First on is on top at the end.
What a great way to look at it. 😊
Thank you for this new useful and altruistic tutorial 👍🏻 What is the average drying time between each layer? Can we really trust the dry touch?

Excellent video -- thank you for that! Did you wash your stones in between each paint layer?
Thank you. No I don’t wash the pebbles in between. I love the pebbles as much as the print, as the layers of colour build up, they look fantastic. 🙂
Beautiful! Do you add any medium to your acrylic paint to slow down the drying time of the first 2 layers?
Thank you, no I have just used the acrylic paint straight from the tube. I did have to turn the heater off in my studio, beautiful it was drying a bit quick 🙂
Doesn't this leave permanent indents to the plate?
