use subway when you move. you can go almost everywhere in seoul by it. install korean subway app. maybe you can find english version. i think bus station is easy to miss so i recommend subway
IMO,,, ur language skills doesn't really matter, coz ppl will eventually get to figure out ur meanings. ppl are mostly foreigners-friendly,,, and i think bumping into local ppls & trying to get it thru via body languages are one major part of the funs. In Korea, wherever u headed... subway-train-bus will link to ur destination, somehow. All u have to do is get ur major credit card ready b4 u move around, and u shall hardly fail for transportation (including taxi, train ticketing, or even for purchasing local bus cards.), and lodges & foods.
it would help if you memorized some simple korean greetings or way of asking for help. if you begin with korean, less will feel intimidated. and then you can start asking in slow english: ) just simple thibgs like excuse me or hello. And there are actually a lot of eng speaking youths in seoul, so don't be afraid to approach them. (as long as you don't come off as a 'im not going to even act as if i respect the culture-why isn't everything in english' type of foreigner, most would try to help you regardless of their english skills. oh and here are some volunteer groups (or some with required fee) for foreigners traveling in seoul. i suggest you look them up c:
