- Here's a clip from the weekend of me playing over Marvin Gayes What's going on, feeling like I'm playing at Wembley when in fact I'm in a restaurant but to be honest it shows that I would play the same regardless of the surroundings.. Not sure if that's a good thing or not but I kind of can't help it... 😂 Hope you get a kick out of this clip either way. I find this is ok too, the musician plays music for people not everyone has to be so engaged, lady came for drink and enjoys her time, thats cool

I am pleased to see this kind of playing is even *tolerated* in that bar. I am sure in most bars in my country it would "get on people's nerves".

This is INSANE on so many levels!!! Master player, with perfect execution, on a level of the GREAT masters. And yet in a place where it's more important to socialize than to stop wtf you are doing and listen attentively to this.
You will not see these kinds of players in the future. The world has changed and people value immediate gratification. If I were a billionaire I would get this guy his own club, house, arrange world tours, and make sure he was fixed for life.
Tommy Immanuel once wore a fake beard and played his songs on the street corner, no one cared, then he took the beard off and within an hour the corner was packed. Ahh, the power of the idol.

I love your playing Alex - a quote from Steve Vai came into my my mind when I saw the title of this clip. The Vai quote was something like this: "I am completely aware that virtuosic and fast playing will sound like Morse code to most people". Frank Zappa, on the same subject said: "they cannot quite approach the statistical density".

TBF, in gigs there are certain licks, or outside phrases, that you sprinkle for yourself or the few that might “get it”, whilst still serving the song! Makes it more fun, and doesn’t hurt the casual listener/hearer! My 2c.

It's a pity the general public arent into hardcore jazz rock fusion; your playing level kinda demands that form of music Alex. OR have you ever studied North or South Indian classical music? John MClaughlin in Mahavishnu & Shakti band made a lifetime career of using that technology mixed with jazz and blues and rock volume often and flamenco to make the best compositions. Im sure youd be well utilised working at that level. Try to watch or listen to a few hours of Shakti from 1970s or 1999 or 2023...the farewell tour in 2023 was incredible. John being 81 yo then too...still really roasting it on stage. The rhythm system called Konokol really helps with the guitar melody timings too...Always love your work Alex!!

I’m not being nasty but a lot of people are “musically illiterate”as I call it.They don’t understand the time and work that you have put in to get to that level of playing.I suppose I’m being biased as I play guitar,or rather attempt to lol,You and Greg Howe are my most listened to players nowadays you both can shred but retain melody and blues tonality if that makes sense.🎶🎸
