Worked in a car stereo shop for 7 years. Sold and installed everything from JL to Kicker L7's. What I learned over time was that the more bass you wanted, the less brains you had.
As much as I love my big systems, I might have to agree. I mean part of it was the point but definitely throw money away into them😂 broken mirrors, windows, trunks, windshields, countless fried batteries and alternators, occasional fried wires, amps, and subs, broken rubbers, broken cones, blown subs, getting broken into multiple times stolen head units, not to mention 3+ grand into each set up, yeah I could say it was stupid, but it was fun, and I'd do it all over again😂 countless 20,000 watt systems I've sat through but my ears still could hear a pin drop in a bar on club night at almost 40yrs old. So, other than lost $$ not that big of a deal. Lots of fun hobbies cost money for little to no return, dirt track racing and demo derby to name a couple 😅 I'll take my cootchie rattling bass over a track day any day☠️

As a former concert producer, one of the charter founders of H.E.A.R. (Hearing Education &Awareness for Rockers) so few people knew that Pete Townsend was legally deaf in the late 80s. My own hearing loss between concerts and gun fire sucks. I do not need hearing aids yet, but the tinnitus is extreme and bordering on painful 24/7. As hard as I try, I cannot find a legitimate reason for building a system like this... anywhere above probably 1/2 way and this will drown-out beyond any point of balance tones from mid to high range. To hear those they would need to be projected towards you with you and them a great distance from these subs. It's quite literally a dangerous freakshow.. we were building car systems in the 80s and 90s that were already blowing-out window seals and as one commenter also pointed-out, we had a young woman one time who had heart palpitations and ended-up in the ER as a full 10-15 minutes later her heart had not returned to normal. If you want to play with the big boys, build a true Wall of Sound in a club or studio where people can actually listen to AND FEEL the music in a good way. And finally look into what the real "Wall of Sound" was. It was NOT about being the loudest, it was about balancing extreme power with quality audio output. All this is putting out is static at the top of human hearing range and likely disturbing people in their own spaces entitled to normalcy. My home system can be felt in my neighbor's basement approximately 500' away, but the studio and theatre are built to standards that keep it safe while if desired could likely reach 200db.... but WHY? In the end this a poor man's PA system. Real men play with much bigger venues than the trunk of a car.
When I was a DJ, early 80s we used to build speakers with 2 18inch woofers and a row of piezo tweeters, those are the small white ones made of some kind of plastic and shaped like a bull horn. Never got a chance to build the second one. After the first time used in school park it was enough. Yes we stole power from a lamp pole. Some much that pole would dark but hey we had power
I did comp for close to 13yrs, last system I owned was about 10yrs ago. Nah she fine. At almost 38 my hearing is near perfect. Most watts I've sat through was about a 5min bass run in 62,000 watts only front driver and passenger door open it was a big old Suburban if I remember it was 4 18s and 4 10s with like 3 massive amps, a bunch of high watt 6×9s and I didn't even cover my ears for half of the run, no formal protection. No ringing, no vertigo, peachy keen jelly bean. Learn to live a little☺️
