    Vito was truly one of the all-time greats. Amazing sense of melody and “lyrical” playing

    Dude was a great guitarist and could pull it off live. The preening Mike Tramp typically comes to mind when most folks think of White Lion but those that really appreciated WL were huge fans of Vito. Excellent guitar player who def deserves more credit.

    For me Vito Bratta should be include in the list of top 100 metal guitarist of all time. He is so underrated virtuoso, great as Dimebag Darrell and Paul Gilbert. You can compare his tapping to EVH, although EVH was first to became popular with tapping, Vito's tapping is the best in melodic.

    • @LateNightLessons
      @LateNightLessons  5 лет назад +7

      I agree!
      Most guitarists use tapping like a "trick" but Vito used it musically and melodically, which is much harder and WAY more impressive!

    I put Vito into the same category of Chris Degarmo. It became all consuming to be at the top of their craft they finally just walked away from it. Could be wrong about that, but that was the way it seemed to me. This stuff doesn't just pop into your head, they put a herculean amount of effort into playing to become this fluid with it.

    • @austinfailz
      @austinfailz 4 года назад +2

      Jim Ford DeGarmo was great, and the only one apparently writing good music in Queensryche. They've been without a rudder since he left.

    • @timothyholmes4588
      @timothyholmes4588 4 года назад

      Chris degarmo has such a cool style really had a big impact on my style a lot of habits I picked up from him that just come out when I write. my little brother pointed it out to me a while back and after listening to my material II was like damn it sounds like a mix of zakk wylde Chris degarmo with a shade of satriani.

    When ever I watch your Vito lesson’s it leaves me wanting more, excellent lesson, Vito did put the Van halen party happy playing in with Randy’s schooled classical playing I also hear George Lynch in Vito’s playing ex specially the flatten 5th Vito think added one thing to that mixture his own unique chord voicing’s and riffing, main attraction was a great album

    • @LateNightLessons
      @LateNightLessons  5 лет назад +1

      That's really true!
      I always heard the EVH influence, but when I put this lesson together I could REALLY see/hear the Randy influence. There's totally some George and maybe even a little DeMartini in there too.
      I'm not really sure why that didn't pop in my head until now.
      I guess it was sitting around and playing through his music for an entire day that it clicked and I was surprised to notice it blaring in my face the entire time.
      "Hey...that's almost a Randy lick."

      Heck yeah. Vito is/was a monster player. Some people wrote him off as an EVH clone, but there was so much more happening with than just another copy of Eddie.
      He had great rhythms and riffs, great melodies and feel, and his tone was pretty solid too. All around a great guitarist!

    A thousand thanks David....I loved Vito s melodic , singable solos , he really stood shoulders above many other p!Ayers. You've really done him justice in this lesson and your right there very little online or in print Redding to his playing.

      Thanks Richard!
      It made me sad while I put this one together to notice how little there actually is surrounding Vito. I felt it was my duty to put together something special surrounding him and his music. Such a gifted player.

    • @LateNightLessons
      @LateNightLessons  5 лет назад +4

      He really did/does.
      He has a great mind for chord progressions and arpeggios, so he also knows how to solo over chords intelligently and melodically, which is how it seems he was able to always hit the right notes at the right time, all the time.

    Dude, you nailed it. This is probably the best tapping lesson, I've seen on the internet. And the fact that you sent it around Vito bratta, that's just awesome. Expressive tapping... That is probably the best way to sum it up. I personally think that Beto is amongst the top three shredders of that era. Maybe someday you could give us a Paul Gilbert lesson?

    Randy Rhoads was my very first guitar hero when my 12 year old self first heard the Blizzard album a few months after he died. When White Lion came along, I had friends that couldn't stand them due to Mike Tramp's "whiny" sounding vocals (their words, not mine), but I only heard that incredible guitar playing behind him and was hooked for life. I've learned some Randy songs on guitar, but never even attempted any Vito because it seemed way beyond anything I'd ever play .. I never saw the connection between the two of them until you pointed it out. Thanks for that! I wonder if that's what subconsciously hooked me from the start :)

    "We tried to do new White Lions with Warren DeMartini and Paul Gilbert and all these others, and no one wanted to do Vito. He was unlike anyone else, he had his own way of doing thing, and plus he was a great songwriter. Had he remained in the business, Vito would have been bigger than Steve Vai and all those types of guys. With him the melody came before anything else, and that’s nothing but the highest praise."
