      @brant munden Yes, that is deep disturbing how much we, as former members, and current members hero worship the president and his councilors of the Mormon religion. The leaders of the Mormon church purposefully withheld information from the members. They lied and whitewashed information so that it was inspiring and uplifting versus being factual and truthful.
      The Gospel Topic Essays, uploaded October 2013, were not announced as The Proclamation to the Family was. I first of them in early 2018. Members going to a faith crisis currently are just now learning of their existence. Much of the information that the leaders of the church have just recently begun to incorporate into their doctrine, was vastly different than what the leaders for decades prior taught.

(Otherwise what will THEY do who are being baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, then why are THEY baptized for them?), the true church never said you are damned if you deny polygamy, they did not believe you could become a god someday, they did not have priests (Hebrews 7 Jesus is our High Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek), the true church never said you have to believe Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God, etc..

    • @anselman3156
      @anselman3156 5 лет назад +1

      Faye Lewis. You have given your own opinion that in the true Church there was no baptizing for the dead. You have no basis for your affirmation that it was pagans who did so. Scripture does not say that. Some interpretations which have been made in the Church are that it was water baptism by Christians on behalf of the dead, or that the "baptism" was a baptism of suffering and of tears on behalf of the dead. Either way, St Paul did not condemn the practice, and it seems evident from the context that it was a practice of some Christians-no suggestion of paganism. Heresies and cults often take a poorly understood or neglected aspect of Biblical teaching and put their own spin on it. The Christian does have to address the question of whether God will provide baptism for believing dead who had not received it in this life.

    • @fayelewis5476
      @fayelewis5476 5 лет назад +6

      Baptizing for the dead is pagan. The New Apostolic Church and the Old Apostolic Church also practice baptism for the dead, as well as Communion and Sealing to the Departed. In this practice a proxy or substitute is baptised in the place of an unknown number of deceased persons. Outside of Christianity, proxy baptisms were practiced by the Mandaeans of Iraq and Iran
      The Bible says, "It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment."
      When Jesus told the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man was already in torment.
      Luke 16:26 Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that those who want to pass over from here to you cannot; neither can those from there cross over to us.’
      Heresies and cults often take a poorly understood or neglected aspect of Biblical teaching and put their own spin on it.
      That is definitely true.
      The practice of baptizing for the dead has as its basis in the misinterpretation of 1 Corinthians 15:29: “Otherwise, what will THEY do, those being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not at all raised, why indeed are THEY baptized on behalf of the dead?”
      We do know by comparing it with the rest of Scripture that it does not mean that a dead person can be saved by someone else being baptized on his or her behalf, because baptism is not a requirement for salvation in the first place (Ephesians 2:8; Romans 3:28; 4:3; 6:3-4). The entire passage (vv. 12-29) is about the surety of the resurrection, not about baptism for the dead.
      What was being baptized for the dead? The plain meaning of the Greek in verse 29 is that some people are being baptized on behalf of those who have died-and if there is no resurrection, why are they doing this? Paul is referring to a pagan custom (notice he uses they, not "we"). Paul merely says that if there is no resurrection, why would the custom take place?
      The Mormon practice of baptism for the dead is neither scriptural nor sensible. Baptism for the dead is a practice that was common in the pagan religions of Greece and is still practiced today by some cults; but it doesn't change a person's eternal destiny, for that is determined while he lives (Luke 16:26).

    • @fayelewis5476
      @fayelewis5476 5 лет назад +4

      The Christian does not have to address the question of whether God will provide baptism for believing dead who had not received it in this life.
      The Bible tells us all we need to know for now. Will the thief on the cross, who is already in Paradise, ever be baptized? The Bible doesn't say. Many people become Christians and never have the opportunity to be baptized.
      Nowhere in the Bible is anyone told to baptize for the dead. Baptism doesn't save you from hell.
      Only the blood of Jesus Christ can save you.

    • @anselman3156
      @anselman3156 5 лет назад +1

      Faye. So you think that St Paul took a "pagan", non-Christian practice to support his teaching of the Christian resurrection hope? That does not seem like St Paul, and does not seem to fit the context. "They" can refer to some Christians. After all, whose distinctive emphasis was on the resurrection, other than Christians? You seem to impose a dubious interpretation on the Bible, bringing in supposed facts from outside sources, but there is no suggestion in St Paul's words that he was disapproving of the practice or considered it alien to Christianity.

    • @fayelewis5476
      @fayelewis5476 5 лет назад +3

      There are literally dozens of verses in the New Testament that attribute salvation to faith/belief with no other requirement mentioned in the context. If baptism, or anything else, is necessary for salvation, all of these verses are wrong, and the Bible contains errors and is therefore no longer worthy of our trust.
      An exhaustive study of the New Testament on various requirements for salvation is not necessary. Receiving salvation is not a process or a multi-step formula. Salvation is a finished product, not a recipe. What must we do to be saved? Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and we will be saved.
      The whole passage is talking about whether the resurrection is true. Nowhere is it stated that Christians were baptizing for the dead. Paul was clearly talking about other people.
      Otherwise what will THEY do who are being baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, then why are THEY baptized for them?
      The real issue is that Joseph Smith said Christianity was of the devil, Christians were deceived by Satan, the anti Christ and then he invents his own god who was once a man somehow and magically became God and tries to use the Bible of all things, to justify all his wild, blasphemous beliefs.
      I understand the Bible better than Joseph Smith and every other prophet and apostle, so why would I want to become LDS? I will never bow down and worship a god that was once a man because that is idolatry.
      Romans 1:25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served what has been created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen.

You are taking things out of context, switching timelines, pulling things from one era and overlapping them on another era, etc. If you think that this is a major contradiction of some kind, you should look harder. Some of these speeches are from like 20 years ago and Russel M Nelson was updating the Church policy to direct it towards Christ. It is somewhat of a pathetic attempt at making something look bad which is really isn't, as they are doing their best to bring things into better alignment.

    This is cracking me up. RMN talks about how back in the early days of the church, Mormon used to be a derogatory term. President Hinckley, and Monson actually did some good when they gave Mormons a better name. That kind of fixed the problems that the past used to have in the church. It's funny, that today they always talk about how the past doesn't matter, and sometimes they even do things to try to fix things that were a problem in the past. (Mostly ny gaslighting lol but still.) But here he is, drumming up things the truly don't matter anymore. The talk of the day is that the past problems of the church don't matter. Yet here he is digging it all up and choosing to CHANGE THIS THING! The thing that isn't even a big deal, and it actually got fixed by previous prophets! If he's going to fix something, he should try addressing something that's actually problematic. But I guess none of that can be fixed LOL, so changing the name of the church is kind of like a decoy to make people feel better, or at least himself. I know this has been a bee in his bonnet for decades, and I know he used to butt heads with the men that changed it, so now he's going nuts on it because he has the power to do so. SMH 🙄

I respect the opinions of people and we should all do what we believe/feel it's right. It just makes me sad (not even mad or frustrated) when some miss out on opportunities because they didn't get the chance to be taught correctly, didn't understand certain things or simply put all their effort in finding mistakes instead of really trying to understand it.
      If you don't trust these men, don't believe in the revelations given by Jesus Christ etc, that's great, as long as you're happy with it. If your hope is that everyone stops believing, I have to disappoint you.

    I'm a member of the Church, so I wanted to clear up some misconceptions because it seems people dont understand some things about the Church.
    How do you think we use tithe money? If you answer with "paying church workers and leaders," you're wrong. The Church has saved my family because my dad was in great debt being a single father raising 2 kids, and they provided us with free food *provided by tithe money* and even house rental money. When I was suffering severe depression, they provided me with free therapy sessions *provided by tithe money.* Tithe money is used for service, not for personal gain. The Church constantly teaches over and over again (this is not an exaggeration) the importance of serving others, including those who arent members of the Church. Not only do they provide for its members like myself, they provide for countless other people who are outside of the Church as well. Theres a reason why we are reported to be the wealthiest Church in the world, because we dont spend it on paying members to do their callings, unlike other churches. We've put billions of dollars into charity.
    You DO realize that we didnt initially call ourselves "mormon" right? People constantly persecuted and slandered our Church who called us mormons based on one of our religious texts. We got tired of it so eventually adopted it so that we wouldnt be weakened by people calling us that. This video is made and edited to be completely out of context and deceiving. Yet, people like to call us masters of trickery and deceit lol, the hypocrisy is real. Before, we were told that we should be proud to be mormons, which was explained in many cuts of this video, right? Well after people came to know us to be mormons, now they arent able to use the name against us because we adopted it ourselves. Because of this, our prophet (the man in the beginning of the video) most recently stated that we should start addressing ourselves as members of the Church of *Jesus Christ* of Latter-day Saints, so that we do not exclude Jesus' name, because we want to enforce the usage of His name in association to our Church. There are no contradictions, this video is highly edited out of context. The prophet's speech came much later after the clips of other men speaking about calling ourselves mormon.

      A lot of Mormons come to my church when they’re sick of being shamed and abused, so here is what Mormons consistently tell me: The general term “Christian” doesn’t make it crystal clear enough that Mormons are better than everyone else. And they wonder why they get resistance?
      Let me clarify: being rich, being old, being White, being male, those are all fine and decent attributes to possess. It’s the secrets that make them sick. And I don’t hold the members responsible even 1% as much as I blame the leaders.
      So Mormons, I’m sorry to disappoint you but Nobody is anti-Mormon. It’s not about you. That’s just normal, healthy people responding to an organization whose survival is dependent upon actively trying to erode our personal faith journey and inject fear into our connection to Jesus so the LDS corporation can sell us the new and improved scheme. Just live your life if you’re so happy with your church. Nobody wants to argue with that. Nobody is hunting you down and trying to change you. We just don’t respond well to smugness. Let Jesus be superior, that speaks louder than trying to corner me into answering biased, loaded questions you’ve been pressured into memorizing and pushing onto strangers who weren’t asking for your patronizing and belittling opinion. Also, even Jesus spent zero time trying to argue his superiority. Stop trying to worry everyone and make the rest of us feel inferior about our relationship with Jesus.
      The LDS leadership has decided that they own God’s will, and the only valid plan to live on Earth, and everywhere else in the universe, spiritually and in every other way. They literally believe God’s will and plan to be their proprietary information and they need a linguist division to clarify that they’re better than everyone else that Jesus loves.
      We can all breathe a sigh of relief: God and Jesus are still completely capable of speaking to anyone, anywhere.
      I wouldn’t expect the Kleenex brand to change its name to “tissue” or Lexus to change its name to “sedan”. I’m not comparing Mormonism (I capitalized it, your welcome) to snot rags or luxury cars; I’m just answering the question: Why don’t Mormons just call themselves “Christian”?
      Because it’s not good enough for them. They don’t consider anyone else to be brothers and sisters in our sovereign God. “Worthy” is a buzz word in Mormonism, and it’s not Jesus who assesses worthiness in the Mormon church. Uh oh. It’s a guy who was a dentist yesterday, or a career lawyer and politician who possesses no understanding of separation between church and government. When your church says you’re better than everyone else, there’s no respect for boundaries or anyone’s autonomy, and no need to explain yourself or be transparent or even tell the truth, if you’ve already been assured that God blesses everything you do (see “Second Annointing”).
      Maybe a better question would be “Why would they claim Jesus at all?” Apparently Jesus wasn’t sufficient for Oaks, Nelson, Hinkley, Smith, and other mere humans who feel entitled to demand obedience to the latest ultimate eternal truth that God just thought of yesterday. Don’t even think about doubting what the latest self-declared “prophet” is pushing today. Actually, yeah, don’t bother doubting it because as soon as it gets enough unpopular opinions, he’ll change it anyway.
      Stop asking questions and just keep paying the rich old White guy to call you unworthy!
      Claiming Christ isn’t good enough for them.
      It doesn’t ascribe them all the glory and authority and sparkly specialness they need to combat the shame and threats directed at their children about the afterlife that the leaders dish out. There’s a lot of double-talk from members, through bright white, Chanel lipstick smiles, about how other churches are doing good too, but ultimately they’re taught that they’re better than the rest of us. And they wonder why people with faith and self-esteem don’t like that. The leaders have it backwards: the leaders shame and scare the membership into sacrificing more and more; keeping more and more of the church’s filthy secrets, covering up more and more abuse, blaming themselves for not being 100% happy, getting it all done and looking like Barbie and Ken (the White versions) doing it, and converting everyone they meet. The leaders have convinced the members that they need to believe the latest rich old White guy more than anything. Anything. And if the members go along with it all, defend leaders and ideologies that personally violate them, betray themselves and their better common sense enough, then ‘maybe’ the church will make things okay between them and God and ‘maybe’ their families won’t be held eternal hostages. What part of “grace”, what part of “love”, is so complicated and secretive? Jesus is for everyone, regardless of their gender, race, or ability to pay. The members I know are beautiful people and I wish they could see how desperately the leadership needs them to keep propping up the crumbling institution. Not the other way around. Classic abusive relationship. Even down to the smear campaign when someone claims their rights and freedom. “Lazy” “Deceived by satan”?
      If you’re not free to say no, you’re not freely saying yes, and no one should have the “covenant” they were coerced into acting out at age 8, or 20, held over their head in a shame cloud.
      So we should keep speaking what we see, because apparently they’re very sensitive to what’s fashionable and they will continually bend to the greater good. They’ll call it “revelation”, but they’ll come around when they smell that they’re risking mainstream popularity too much.

    This is a very bad edited video. I actually agree that they may disagree at times, but this video I would say is doctored and was taking some of the things they said out of context. Most quotes I noticed were not what apostles and prophets were calling people in the church but what people outside the church were calling them.

      I mean if you are truly repentant then there's no need to repent again.
      After all, repentance means to change your mind towards something. If you say you've repented, then commit the same sin, then you were not truly repentant the first time.
      You also failed to mention that He will forgive us IF we forgive OTHERS!!!! You cannot be unforgiving and expect to be saved.

Because mormons no nothing of the history of the Christian church, let alone their own history, let me give you a spoiler alert. They embraced it !!!!!Since the MORMON CHURCH actually follows Joe Smith, and venerate/ worship him, to the tune of statues, paintings, and a multimillion "memorial building" on a priceless piece of real estate downtown. And 80-90% of the subject in general conference, and ward meetings is devoted to him. (Mormons only mention Christ when politically correct, or in need of validity) I suggest you change the name to The church of Joseph Smith of latter day blasphemer's. Fit's perfectly

    There's no contradictions here when interpreted correctly and when the time and circumstances are put in place.
    Do you notice that you've only shared speeches from the recent generations? Before they were born, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were already nick-named and hated so much that the earlier generations began responding and it became a habit for them, then it was passed on to the next generation.
    I've never referred to myself as a "mormon", my family have, each time they have I have always corrected them and said "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints".
    Having the Saviour's name on the signs of the church shouts out loudly and clearly to the public the name, Jesus Christ.
    When I walk past other churches I have no idea what religion they are, I see no signs of Christianity, when the counselors in the Roman Empire changed the name of the church Christ established in Jerusalem, Christ got less recognisable.
    3 Nephi 27:7-8
    7 Therefore, whatsoever ye shall do, ye shall do it in my name; therefore ye shall call the church in my name; and ye shall call upon the Father in my name that he will bless the church for my sake.
    8 And how be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses’ name then it be Moses’ church; or if it be called in the name of a man then it be the church of a man; but if it be called in my name then it is my church, if it so be that they are built upon my gospel.
    Doctrine & Covenants 115:3-4
    3 And also unto my faithful servants who are of the high council of my church in Zion, for thus it shall be called, and unto all the elders and people of my Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, scattered abroad in all the world;
    4 For thus shall my church be called in the last days, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
    About these scriptures, 3 Nephi was translated before Joseph Smith received the Revelations in D&Cs 115, that's why in 1830 the church did not yet have a certain name.

    Nice try but these prophets and apostilles are in no way contradicting each other in this video, but you can't forget the fact that in The Book of Mormon there was a dispute between the people on what is the proper name to call the church and Jesus replied that you should take on the name of Christ because it is his church and this is why the proper name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints. People call us Mormons because we read The Book of Mormon and many members have gotten used to referring to us as Mormons but we all know that the proper name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints because in The Book of Mormon it mentions that we are supposed to take upon the name of Christ because it is his church.
