  • A divisive debate is underway in Plateau State regarding the establishment of state police across all 36 states of Nigeria.
While some members of the community support the idea, citing its potential benefits, others are opposed, expressing concerns about the state's ethno-religious divisions.
The demand for the establishment of state police nationwide has surged amidst the escalating security issues plaguing communities in recent times, with many viewing it as a potential solution to the country's insecurity challenges.
A National dialogue titled 'Pathway to Peace; Reimagining Policing in Nigeria,' organized by the House of Representatives in collaboration with the Policy Legislative and Advocacy Centre and the United Nations Development Programme in Abuja on Wednesday, aimed to address these concerns.
However, among residents of Plateau, the dialogue has stirred differing opinions regarding the acceptance or rejection of various speakers at the event.

The Muslim Community in Plateau State have genuine reasons to exercise fear because of the steps so far taken by the Government in recruiting Operation Rainbow now in existence. At inception many people of the State submitted applications but at recruitment only a predominant Christian applicants were recruited and taken to Israel for training. Who will not fear a further legitimacy of this?
