    The weather is key in farming and unfortunately this year it's not playing nicely. Crops are getting ruined and this will reflect in the future price of food. Very informative Andrew and keep your chin up

    It’d be interesting to see the impact of the wet weather (2016 & 2023) on yield and quality compared to a more normal year.
    The direct drilled field is an interesting one. Would you consider moving or adding another field in to see the effect on heavy versus light land?
    Cheers

      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  Год назад +2

      I don’t have that info, will try to get it from a grain merchant. We already know the light land yields less than the heavy, not sure I’ve got the patience to do it on the heath!

      We in the light sandy soils of east beds love wetter yrs drought is the no one enemy , clay land cereals should out perform sandy soil most yrs

    The Haricot bean plants are more like a Soya bean or French bean plant as opposed to a broard bean plant.
    I think you will be able to get harvesting this week, weather looks like improving.

    Excellent update; fascinated by the appearance of the Haricot beans.... Looking similar to runner beans.... I wonder if they would be as tasty.... Almost impossible to grow runners in my garden in Spain(too much sun... sorry😅) ; maybe l should try a few next year.
    Good luck Andrew with your harvest.

    Lol all the trouble to make sure new grass is laid nicely and dogs go out and bury there bones in middle of it.
    Yes weather certainly causing havoc with cereal harvest but the knock on effect for next couple of years is always a factor to be taken into account

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  Год назад +1

      The dogs will have a job to bury anything through this turf, they l’ll have to have a jig saw with them to cut through the plastic mat under the sand!!! I agree re damage for next crop.

    Watching your video Andrew . Last week i comented on your use of your tele handler to push up OSR in your shed , and i said wouldnt it be better using an augur/ conveyer to do this. You replied about costs etc . Imagine my surprise to see you using a new looking elevator to do the job in this video .

      We don’t have hardly any lodged wheat……yet!! It was all drilled quite late so not at the susceptible stage and I don’t think we’ve had the heavy storms and high winds.

    Andrew, you & Ollie did a good job on the BBC this morning, you both kept it 'simple' for 'Jo' (gender neutral!) public. On a brighter note, the forecast is better for end of the week, so combines should be rolling. I guess you can't desicate all that green growth in the malting barley, cos it won't germinate for the brewers?

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  Год назад +1

      Thanks Tim. Olly was very good, it’s good the BBC have so much air time to the feature. 👍 to the weather!

    Why is there darker green bits in the turf? Have they had more fertiliser or is it the way the grass has been layed down?

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard

      They are the inside of the roll, where the plastic tube is, where the light was still getting in.

    Hi Andrew how manys kgs of N/ha do you have on the wheat after beans?

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  Год назад +2

      We do soil nitrogen tests in Jan/Feb and then apply according to yield potential and soil available N. It really does vary widely but sometimes it’s not as much less than other crops as you think because the Turkic potential is greater after brand so needs more to fulfil that potential. Despite the above I’d start off at 40kg less!

      We have 3. Sencrop have given us one as I help to promote them, it’s on one of the contract farms and Agrii have put 2 up, one at the heath where Rhonda and I currently live and another at the main farm, the Glebe. If I was buying one it would be the Sencrop because you can also open them up to other Sencrop users around the county for free.

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard

      Many reasons. This hybrid turf is better than mates rates, it’s instant, the matting and sand will help massively to suppress weeds and lastly, if the grass is good enough for many premier league footy clubs and national stadiums, that’ll do for me.
