Of course. The "kali stick" can be a stand in for a short sword or hardwood stick. A hanbo would be fine though you would have to adjust the range just a bit.

We are using 30ish inch sticks here, but I have fought guys who use 36" sticks, but if you aren't used to the weight I'd start lighter and build up. Try light rattan and build length and thickness over time. Going too heavy too fast is a great way to give yourself tendonitis.
