  • I found the answer why my HVAC controls were "sticking" in my owners manual.
    It says;
    "Under normal weather conditions, do not leave the air flow selector in
    MAX A/C or OFF when the vehicle is parked.
    This allows the vehicle to “breathe” using the outside air inlet vents".

    Where do i begin!!... a simple thank u won't do it!.. i purchased an 05 CVPI SAP from auction Feb/2020. It came with cracked intake, i replaced with new one, before replacing intake and after this hissing sound with a whistle at the end of hissing would always make its presence. It drove me nuts not being able to find that vacuum sound leak hissing for months, today i come across your video and Ta Dah!! There was the fix just turn the knob to the vent position before turning off the car in park...lol. Thank you so much, your awesome for putting these very helpful videos that took a huge weight off my shoulders and stress, i read you dont monetize your channel but i hope with this comment is a payment of gratitude for all your time, dedication and great video content that helps the Panther Car Community and average DIY folks out there Men or Women, and Yes i subscribed and will be spreading the word about your channel. I live in semi tropical south Florida. I only set my control to either OFF or MAX/AC. I never would have guessed that someone would design a climate control that didn't like being set to OFF. I was born in Michigan, and wouldn't normally think that the people there are brain dead, but what a completely bone head design. Thank you so much for the video. I never thought to RTFM. My fix has been to wiggle the temperature knob after I start my car and turn on the AC which kicks it into blowing cold air.

      You are correct, I believe this design flaw is due to the use of “Vacuum Control Motors” to operate the mode doors within the HVAC ductwork. Here’s a brief overview of the Vacuum Control Motors; ruclips.net/video/O-UblzGhbDw/видео.html

      As a mechanic and a Crown Vic owner of 24 years and working HVAC on Ford's, I can tell you that your temperature blend door servo motor is bad. Those are the typical symptoms. When they go bad they get "lazy" and take their sweet time to change from one setting to the next one and make noises like soft crunchy noises. The Max/Normal servo motor works with vacuum and the temperature blender servo is an electric motor. I've never seen the vacuum motors fail but I am tired of seeing the blender door servo motor failing to work as intended.

      @@PanzerPlatform I just noticed when I move to any setting it instantly switches with the exception of MIX. That one takes like almost the whole drive to work before it blows air from vent and floor simultaneously. I thought something might be going out, but then I watched this...because reading is for chumps.
      I always switch to OFF right before I park. I generally only use Vent, Max A/C, Off or Defrost settings while driving. So, I never noticed MIX was slow to respond until recently. I figured I'd try something new to see what all the fuss was about. Mix is pretty cool. I kinda like it. Now that I see I should leave it in a mode, I'm gonna park while still in MIX and see if now I can rapidly switch between settings on startup, or not.
      Worse case scenario; since everything else works immediately as I think it should, I'll just go back to using OFF while parked and back to VENT while driving, and not use MIX.
      Best case scenario; I leave it parked while in a mode and then even MIX works immediately when selected. We shall see. 👀

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  3 года назад

      @@HollywoodHornet
      So wait a minute, you had this issue, and knew I would have a video on the subject, or you searched it, and by luck you found my video?
      OK, just so you know this is what “MIX” does on your 2002 model year, (page 55);
      MIX - Distributes outside air through the windshield defroster ducts
      and the floor ducts. Heating and air conditioning capabilities are
      provided in this mode. For added customer comfort, when the
      temperature control knob is anywhere in between the full hot and full
      cold positions, the air distributed through the floor ducts will be
      slightly warmer than the air sent to the windshield defroster ducts. If
      the temperature is about 6°C (43°F) or higher, the air conditioner will
      automatically dehumidify the air to reduce fogging.
      Here is the answer to your original question;
      “Under snowy or dirty weather conditions, your vehicle’s climate
      control system should be left in the OFF position when the vehicle is
      parked. This allows the climate control system to be free from
      contamination of outside pollutants”
      This is because when you select the OFF position, the fresh air / recirculation mode door is closed.
      I won’t ask you to read anymore, I imagine you’re on the verge of busting a gasket or a migraine. If you want to know more, this video will help you decide which mode to select while driving;

      @@PanzerPlatform Thank God there's a video. All that reading was starting to provoke me into having some sort of episode. Plus it went in one eye and out the other.
      I googled "Crown vic mix setting slow to respond". There was a link to a You Tube video where some dude opens up his glove box and jams a screwdriver into the blend door actuator and gives it the business. I believe one of the related videos in the are of his video brought me to your video and yours was much more my style. When you park the car, and leave the air flow selector switch in OFF, or MAX AC the vacuum control motors get "stuck".
      It takes around 10-15 minutes of driving for them to unstick themselves.

    I have this problem right now in my 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. But mine is coming and going often. The AC works for 1 minute, then suddenly closes for 1 minute. Over and over again. I can hear it blowing but its blocked. Then poof, it opens and blows cold. I have always been leaving my control on max AC all the time, never change it......but after watching the video, I still have a question. What's the fix? :) What do I do to make sure that vent stays open forever!

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  4 года назад

      Yo Nicholas,
      Thanks for the question.
      Usually, the first step in fixing automotive HVAC systems is to take some “before” vent temperature readings. That way you’ll know if you fixed the problem, by taking an “after” reading when the repairs are completed. Get a hold of an automotive style Digital Thermometer for the vent temp readings. They’re around $5 bucks. Here is what it looks like;
      - www.harborfreight.com/instant-read-digital-thermometer-63614.html?_br_psugg_q=digital+thermometer
      -
      Next, do an A/C + Heater performance test. Usually under “normal” conditions my Panther vent temps with the A/C on ranges from 37F to 42F. With the heater on, my Panther vent temps range from 140F to 152F. Also make sure the engine coolant level is at the proper level before performing this test.
      Once you get some accurate vent temp readings, move on to checking the “LOW SIDE”, and “HIGH SIDE” A/C system pressures. You’ll need a Manifold Gauge Set.
      Most auto part stores have a free loaner tool program, and they usually have them in stock. Or you can buy one for $60. It looks like this;
      www.harborfreight.com/ac-r134a-manifold-gauge-set-62707.html

      Yo Abdul,
      Thank you for better describing your malfunction.
      I'm almost positive I know what the problem is now.
      Sometimes it may me a failed part called a "Blend Door Actuator/Motor".
      But in this case I suspect the O-Rings in the Climate Control Unit have failed.
      The procedure to replace the O-Rings is not difficult, or expensive but it will require around 2 hours of your time.
      Of course the proper course of action is to perform a thorough diagnosis to confirm & verify the complaint before starting the repair procedure, but in this case, I think we have already established the cause of the issue.

      Yo Tyler,
      It sounds like you might want to check the blower motor resistor.
      Or maybe the blower motor itself is wearing out.
      But before you do all that check all the wires in the system for damage like from mice and such.

    • @PanzerPlatform

      Hey Mohammed,
      I made another video to answer your question. You can see it here;
      -
      ruclips.net/video/1g4v4aHqIzI/видео.html
      -
      Or just keep reading;
      -
      First just to make sure, check the engine coolant level in the overflow reservoir to make sure it’s filled to the proper level. If it’s too low, hot engine coolant may not reach the heater core to bring heat into the passenger compartment. If the coolant level is OK, they you may proceed.
      -
      If your car has the fancy "EATC" (Electronic Automatic Temperature Control) usually the temperature can be increased by pressing the “RED” button until it reaches the highest temp setting.
      If this doesn't work, you may have a malfunction. However, there is a procedure to put the ETAC into "Self Test” mode. Once you have obtained an error code, your diagnosis may begin. Follow these steps to enter the ETAC Self Test Mode.
      Step One: (Optional) Make sure the vehicle has a fully charged battery before stating this procedure.
      -
      Step Two: Set the vehicle to KOEO (Key On, Engine Off). This means turn the key to the run position, without starting the engine.
      -
      Step Three: Press “OFF” on the EATC
      -
      Step Four: Press “FLOOR” and “OFF” at the same time
      -
      Step Five: Press “AUTOMATIC”
      -
      Step Six: The Self Test may take up to 30 seconds to complete. You may hear audible noises coming from the vents, or under the dash. This may be the various blend doors, and or motor actuators performing a full sweep calibration. Take note of any error codes. 888 usually means the self test has not detected any malfunction. After the test is complete, press DEF to end the test.
      -
      Possible Error Codes;
      022 - blend door short (intermittent)
      024 - blend door fault (during test)
      025 - blend door fault (intermittent)
      030 - inside temp control sensor shorted (during test)
      031 - inside temp control sensor open (during test)
      040 - ambient temp sensor short (during test)
      041 - ambient temp sensor open (during test)
      042 - ambient temp sensor short (intermittent)
      043 - ambient temp sensor open (intermittent)
      050 - sunlight sensor short (during test)
      052 - sunlight sensor short (intermittent)
      115 - intermittent engine coolant temp signal
      125 - intermittent vehicle speed signal
      888 - test pass/complete
      -
      For further diagnosis consult the appropriate service / repair manual. By the way I have a video on how to obtain free online automotive service / repair manuals for any car. You can watch the video here to learn more;

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  3 года назад

      Yo ZG,
      I'm a little confused.
      Let's start at the beginning.
      What was your original malfunction with the HVAC system?
      Why did you replace the T-Stat?
      Let's start there first.
      Also remind me of the YEAR / MAKE / MODEL of the vehicle.

      @@PanzerPlatform lol Ok thanks, so at first the heater stopped blowing. But then I noticed at high speeds the heat would blow a little, or when I used the brakes the heat would blow for a second... So I looked at some videos online, and seeing the guy tapping on the fan underneath the hood. The heat would work for a moment then goes out. And now a week later the heat disappeared all together. And it's getting cold as hell in Indy haha

      Ok.
      Let's start with the basics.
      Check all fuses in both fuse boxes, (under dash, and engine bay).
      Then check the resistor for the blower motor.
      Then check the blower motor connector for proper connection, and or damage.
      Then check the wiring going to the blower motor, (with a good flashlight, and give it the wiggle test).
      Also check engine coolant to make sure it's topped up.
      If you recently serviced the cooling system you may have air in the system that needs to be bleed.
      What is the YEAR / MAKE / MODEL of your car?
      Do you have the fancy digital EATC HVAC control unit, or the basic 3 knob unit?
      If you have the EATC, perform the self test to check for error codes.
      I'll leave a link to my video how to perform that test.
