- Going to Poland? These are the 5 best Polish foods you must eat!!! Join me for an epic culinary journey in Krakow where I try traditional Polish food. Probably a result of its rich history and culture, Krakow is a food paradise, or even better; the taste of Poland. Here you will find all kinds of tradional and popular Polish dishes, and some of them even originate from this part of the country. This ultimate Krakow food guide covers what to eat in Krakow, or Poland in general:
- Pierogi, or Polish dumplings, are a staple of Polish culture and cuisine.
- Oscypek, a smoked cheese made of sheep milk and it's a local delicacy.
- Zapiekanka, this half of a wide baguette is a true Polish street food classic.
- Obwarzanek, this braided bread similar to a bagel is a must on a culinary journey through Krakow.
- Maczanka, loaded with juicy pulled pork and soaked in gravy, this Polish take on a burger is wow!
Krakow is the most visited city in Poland and thus very touristy. Despite all this, it is still inexpensive and especially the food. That said, you can allow yourself to indulge in the rich Polish cuisine without a second thought. Enjoy!

When I come on vacation from Norway to Poland, I always make 1 liter of vodka with my neighbor and we make 200 pieces PIEROGI RUSKIE. You could make 400 pieces but a liter of vodka allows for 200 pieces only our girls are satisfied because they will eat very good dumplings and they do not have to stick

I eat dumplings when I'm traveling because it's the safest food, filling and no stomach problems.

Hi. One thing, the "cz" in "Maczanka" should be spelled like English "ch" (check, chalk, cheese, cherry, church, much). Other than that, the movie is perfect.

2:34 There are no "Russian" dumplings, only Ruthenia ones. Ruthenia is an old Polish land, currently located within the borders of Ukraine.
They were called Russian on the menu, see by yourself. Appreciate the info and support. Stay safe
@@thestreetfoodconnoisseur I figured it was so, but it's just not knowing the language of the person who translated the menu.
Appreciate it
They are literally called russian 'ruskie' (in polish). It's not about translation- that's what those are called. My favourite.
@@thestreetfoodconnoisseur You're right- they are called russian-ruskie. It's just what stuck and that's what they are ;)

U should also try Polish kebab!
Next time my friend 😍
There is allot more of Polish traditional food that i sugest you try if you are there for exclusive food adventure. Bigos is a must try and on purpose first on this list. If you didnt eat bigos in Poland you havent even been to Poland and you just need to go again and try it. Flaczki also a must try, Barszcz czerwony z uszkami i pasztecikiem, a freaking must try, paczki must try - heaven in mouth. Racuchy, zurek, knedle, kopytka, pyzy, oscypek, placki ziemniaczane and if you like sweets and candy then krówki and prince polo is a must try. Never buy soda in Polish restaurant. Always order kompot. You can get hot and chilled kompot and the taste is different in every restaurant and it taste different every day because restaurants cook fresh kompot every day using diferent fruits. Never buy any fruits from supermarkets. Always ask locals where is the nearest fruit market and you will be able to buy better quality at 1/10th of market price. Always buy your bread from local bakery and not the supermarket, this way you will get your bread so fresh it will be hot and straight from the oven.
Really appreciate the ambitious comment. Thanks!!

Hahah! Thanks for watching
Great episode man! Just one small thing 2:35 not Russian but Ruthenian.
Thanks Tomek!! Appreciate you pointing that out, but on the menu they called it ”Russian”… 😂
@@thestreetfoodconnoisseur it's not your fault, actually many times Polish people translate it like that because words in Polish for "Russian" and "Ruthenia" are really similar 👍
The city is clean af.
One more question is Poland expensive ?
For me as a Swede, Krakow was inexpensive. Thanks for leaving a comment!
Twice as Canada is.
Wikingu, jeśli lubisz pierogi, spróbuj uszek w barszczu czerwonym. Little dumplings in soup.
You have any recommendations on where to eat them? 🙏
A little bit about oscypek. These small ones are just mountain cheese. Real oscypek needs to meet the required characteristics and there is a lot of it.
For example it needs to have 600-800 grams of weight, more than 60% of ship milk and rest can be from cow but only from one polish variety.
There is also certain shape and other features. It's sometimes hard to find real oscypek but false ones aren't that bad actually.
Really appreciate the informative comment!! Thanks for watching 😍
welcome to Kraków :3. There is too much beautifull places, and food r delicious

@@thestreetfoodconnoisseur Sorry for the translation . I jumped into it ad hock , then I realized, (f. me) I don't know Polish anymore . - I had to translate from his mummba - jummba Polish to the grammatical , correct order of Polish language, first . Translation : ..... Jag kan garantera det, - det du åt var inte det som kunde ha ätits. Även på restauranger med högt betyg ger de allt intetsägande, de sparar på allt, det vill säga kryddor och exekvering. Det kan vara bättre än du kan föreställa dig. . ...... I can guarantee that , - what you ate was not what could have been eaten . Even at high rating restaurants , they give everything bland , they save on everything, i.e. spices and execution. It could be better, than you could imagine. Sorry , my "Svenska" is a bit rusty. Greetings.
Obwarzanek krakowski and bagel come from Kraków. Obwarzanek krakowski is three centuries older than a bagel. The dough for the krakowski obwarzanek is first steamed, then baked. Krakow's Jews began baking bagels in the 17th century. Bagels were given to women after a successful childbirth at the beginning. The bagels came to NY at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries along with the great emigration. Today they are an iconic bakery product associated with NY. :-)))))

There is one wrong translation. Russian dumplings are pelmeni. Small dumplings stuffed with meat. We have Ruthenian dumplings (pierogi ruskie) in Poland. This name speaks of the region of origin. Ruthenia has been part of Poland for nearly 1,000 years. This is western Ukraine today. The translation error comes from the ignorance of my countrymen. The word Ruski(Ruthenian) has become a synonym for Russian in everyday language. That is why some people translate Ruthenian as Russian. :-))))))
Thanks for the info!! ❤️
You're wrong in one aspect. Pelemeni are not the same as polish pierogi, vareniki are.
*Ruthenian not russian. Its common mistake even amog Pole.
When it comes to oscypek. Most of them are authentic / original. But almost none has certification. In Poland, there are probably 13 people with EU-issued licenses. These are the results of legal regulations to protect the national good. But a side effect is that the families that created oscypek for generations do not have these rights because they are either too restrictive or too painful to make.
Haha yes even the menue said Russian so… really appreciate your ambitious comment ❤️
@@thestreetfoodconnoisseur This mistake results from the fact that we call these pierogi "ruskie" in Polish. And "ruskie" is colloquially speaking "Russian". And the original meaning of the word "Ruś"(ruthenia) has been lost.
I see! Thanks again
@Matvraket If the name in Polish said rosyjskie, then one could translate it as russian, but it doesn't. Ruskie comes from Ruthenia, which was former polish province Red Ruthenia.
Actually, even the name Russia has been stolen since before nowadays, russians were called Moscovites.
We fool you, I never ate pierogi being 45yo polish, this is a legend for turists, much like 6 mln victims of the Austrian watercolorist fairy tale for the mentally handicapped

I lived in Kraków for a few years, and I must say, that Zapiekanki from plac nowy in Kraków are very average in taste and overall feeling of the classic zapiekanka taste. You shuold definatelly search more about Polish "zapiekanka" ,there are hundreds of small towns where u can eat a delicious Zapiekanka, much better then the ones in Cracow (they are a bit overrated). Go To Biłgoraj in Lubelskie, try some Zapiekanka in Janów Lubelski or other palces.
Appreciate the ambitious comment!!
There's more. - There are hundreds of other countries, where food is 100 times better than in Poland.
Miss poland, maybe we can go there once s this china-virus plague is over we can go there again. Chinese communist party can pay for the trip.
