I’m definitely a pm runner. I like to run and not have the stress of going to work afterwards. And find it’s more of a de-stressor after a hard day. Plus I believe I benefit more from the deep sleep I’m in at that early hour.
I still have high HR when going to sleep everytime i had an afterwork or evening run. I really find it hard to sleep doing so. Do you have strategy or some sort? Thanks
Personally I like running in the MIDDLE of the day the best. I usually get up, do some work for a few hours until my concentration starts to dwindle and then go for a run. That run acts like a reset button for me and once I'm home and showered I can easily crank out a few more hours of work, feeling completely fresh. I have the luxury of working from home, so this of course doesn't work for everyone, but for me it's perfect.
I used to run at lunch break. Soon other people would want to join in. Within a couple of years it would be a crowd. Then I would go hide and change my running program making poor excuses of why I wasn't running at lunch any longer. On the other hand running at lunch makes lots of great contacts.
Being a mom of 4, I have to do my exercise before anyone wakes up. I have to give me the first hours of the day so I can function better through the day.
For so long I was an evening runner. More recently I’ve adjusted my internal clock to be asleep around 9:30/10pm and up at 5:30am for those early morning miles. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the evening run. I love the quiet and calm of the morning runs.
Later in the day feels better. I’ve woken up, my body moves together as a whole, and the day’s events have warmed me up. My better times were usually later
Evening run all the way. I work a 9 to 5 and then I like to run when I am awake and sharp and also energetic. After a good shower and a good meal, I can side hustle for 2 hours, spend some time with family and sleep like a baby. Evening run is the best for busy people with work goals.
I have been running in the morning since April to avoid the crowds but I've switched back to late afternoon/evenings again now, much easier to get into the flow of things later on and my pace is faster as I'm not as stiff as I am in the morning 😀👍
As Jocko Willink says: "Nobody is bothering you at 4 a.m." I am not a morning person, but I cannot understate the value of being left the hell alone for a few hours. And the only time nobody is ringing your phone or trying to make plans is the early a.m. Get it in and done early so I can drink when I get off of work 👌
After 20 years in the sport that severely depends on the person. I have done both over the years. The toughest part of the morning is getting up and getting out the door. The evening run well that all depends on your daily life.
I'm an evening runner. My body won't work in the morning 🤣. Plus I live in the Texas heat, so usually it's cooled off enough by 7 to 8 to go on a okay run. The humidity undoubtedly still sucks but hey when will it ever not suck.
Early for me. Was out in complete darkness yesterday morning. Get to see the stars and moon, which are cool. Looking forward to it getting lighter before 6am though! (New Zealand)
I occasionally do a fasted run in the morning, but that is rare. Most of my runs (and rides) are done right before lunch as I can go from work. When we were able, I would do 2 nights a week running with my clubs, rain, shine, hail, sleet or snow.
I do a lot of my runs in the mornings, but I mostly prefer running in the early evening. The only catch is, it's hard to run in the dark without being stressed over the possibility of tripping over something, so I have to time my run so that it ends right after sunset. That said, in my experience, few things beat having the sun rise or set in the middle of your run.
I like to run in the mornings, it's easier mentally to run in the mornings than it is in the afternoon and later in the day. In the summer I would set an alarm for 5 to be out the door by 6 to avoid the heat. It was a hard routine to get adjusted to but I did after about a week and it was basically neccessary. Now that its cooler I just run between 10A-12P. I'm fasted and well rested without having to force myself to wake up and I'll be home by 2 at the latest if I'm out the door by 12 depending on the run. I have ran at night and the afternoon before but running in the morning allows me to go throughout the day mentally free with a clear head and just chill in the evening without having a run glooming over my head that I know I have to go for.
Sometimes, morning is good for me when I'm doing short-moderate distance easy runs, and I can get in caffeine pre-run (via tablet). I just make sure I eat enough the night before. It just feels good to be running fasted with caffeine flowing through your system Can't do the same for caffeine in the PM.. sleep will be rekt. Then again, I'm often able to get in a good nap before my evening runs. Of course, it feels great to be running with a refreshed mind. I'm just a casual regular runner though.
In the morning, my muscles feel like they are made of wood, takes a few hours to loosen up properly. That said, exercise can achieve that, i just wont be setting any PBs :) The flipside can be true for the evening as well, day fatigue and being sat at a desk for hours also doesnt help, but i tend to perform better in the eve. The most optimal is perhaps mid-afternoon, time to let lunch settle, and also loosen up!
I always look for advice to see if evening runs are not beneficial. I’ve been an evening runner as long as I can remember, never could get into morning runs. It takes way more time for my body and mind to wale up, so morning run is not the best thing for me. I’m semi asleep, not in the mood, wanna go back home and sleep some more. I guess I’ll stick to my evening runs and not worry about it being wrong, because thats what works for my body and as long as it works, I’m fine by that.
I used to be 100% a night owl, but since covid, the only time I can get a pool session is 5am so I have been getting up at the same time every day for routine. This meant switching to morning runs and I'm sold on them. There's something special about a crisp fall morning run.
Been waking up progressively later since covid began. So even though I run after sundown that's about late morning my time. Immune compromised so this way I avoid as many people as possible.
Actually for me and more of us comes down to logistics and if i am at an event. If it's a day I work, I either run on lunch (when at home) and/or after work. If is a day off ( weekend, holiday, vacation day, etc), brighten early in the morning 7, 8, or 9 am. I like to run in the morning if available, but I start work at 7 a.m. so I'm just not going to get up that early to run.
Morning run give me extra bit energy for rest of the day, somedays I feel drained though, but during colder weather my muscles and bit tighter.. so I prefer evening runs during winter/colder weather. And morning run during summer/warmer weathers.. but always good to run when the sun is out, though.. never tried afternoon runs..
The Park Run got me into running so I think that time slot is my favourite. In my part of 🇦🇺 they start at 8am. Although I’ve also ran earlier in the morning and as late as 10 pm. I like the solitude at night but have tripped over a broken pavement. Plus I’ve found I sleep better after exercising at night.
Been an early bird since I was a kid, so I'm naturally more of a morning runner. The thing is, sometimes it makes me sleepy during the day. I don't mind the afternoon heat, though I get so thirsty easily. I'd like to do more afternoon runs, but my routine doesn't really allow for it.
Where I live, the best time is early morning. The temperature rises from 9am on to 7pm. By the time the temperature drops, it would be around 9pm. I usually run around 6am to 8am to avoid over heating and traffic.
Morning for me. Very low energy in the afternoon and most races are in the morning so it makes sense. Not that I race anymore. Longer runs can be done weekend mornings. It’s cooler in the mornings in the part of Australia in which I live so another reason for am running. Does cortisol have anything to do with it? Circadian rhythm? A piece of toast with a bit of jan is all that’s needed for breaking the fast.
I work overnights, so late afternoon is my morning. If I'm working that evening, I run first thing after waking up; if I'm not working, I wait a little while, have a couple of cups of coffee, then maybe run under the cover of darkness. The latter type of run is my better one...I can go a little farther, slightly faster, and with a lower heart rate.
I run mornings in warm weather, in the southern US it gets quite warm and humid by afternoon. I also ride in daylight after work. But in cold months with no daylight after work, I run in afternoon and ride on a trainer in morning. I also meet with a swim team and swim early mornings some days.
I'm a shift worker week about. After Nightshift I wake at midday have an egg on toast with creamed cheese and salmon slices and run 1hr later. Afternoon shift I wake in the morning have muesli with banana, yogurt, almonds and saltanas and run 1 hour after that. Dayshift up at 3:30am and I get home at 1pm (already had lunch about 11:30am) have a coffee and run after that. Shift work makes you flexible. My preference is afternoon shift because I get the best sleep and run fresh. Worst is day shift. 3:30am wake ups and tired by the time I get home. Not to mention I sometimes ride my push bike to work 2 or 3 times a week (7km one way) in all shifts and run 6 times a week.
yeah sleep is super important but I've been taking the supplement Ashwaganda which I believe has helped me in getting more quality and deeper sleep. I have the link in all of my videos should you be interested and it's super cheap
Morning running for me. A late afternoon run only under unavoidable circumstances and then only on a weekend. Mainly because the morning is the only time I control. Everything else is up to work/kids/social things (when they were a thing).
Evening, for sure! On the occasions I had to go running early in the morning I run 2 to 3 minutes slower for 10km. For me running is pretty much about pleasure, about feeling well, and early in the morning there's no pleasure at all, it's like going for an obligation. And I don't work well during the morning, my peak of activity is between late afternoon and evening.
I do timed running in the morning to start my day with a challenge and endurance/distance running at night to exhaust myself for a great deep sleep afterwards.
I usually do it Mid day (11:00am - 1:00pm) these times are perfect since I wake up around 7-8am & eat around those times, over the few hours it gives me enough time to digest the food. This is the happy medium & I believe the best. Sadly I know most people can't really run or exercise at this time since this is usually the time where people are at work, or busy.
If I'm working in running and training early in the morning between 4 and 0730. If I'm on holidays and on a rest period I may train more in the afternoons.
@@geethunder1 Not after. Once I start working out I'm fine and I can just cunt it out. However after I'm done I need to get myself some coffee or caffeine to make sure I don't struggle throughout the day. I have a rest day everyweek and make sure I have deload weeks.
Before Covid-19... Do you remember those sorrowless times ? Back then, I preferred to run straight from work, doing a 7K or 14K and then driving home. Sometimes cycling to work, doing the run after work and then cycling home. But then I have to start from home at 0515 in the morning and then returning after 1930 in the evening.
Evening run here. I run in the morning during summer months, but I prefer evening runs. All the stress from the work day just disappear with the sweat and the sunsets
I've done some"hills for breakfast" runs every Friday morning 6.30 -> 6.55. Then you still have time to get ready for work or school. But we were also a little bit crazy.
Main obstacle for me running in the morning seem to have been my hair! ... Getting out of bed, there is zero way to just leave it as it is and go out, finally I have found the way and cut it settles alright and dry within 45 minutes, after just drenching it over the bathtub! Meanwhile, 50+, my body answers indifferently to what daytime I ask it for a rush - other people seem to be more courteous in the mornings though, seriously. Whenever possible, I will opt for a morning run, yep.
I do my running in morning as well. However I just cannot get myself up from the lockdown. Therefore I am and am NOT running at an schedule but I do it anytime in any day.
I do it twice a day. One 800 meters road (not 100% of running. SO, it is roughly 1000 meters considering that I need to run back. Or, if I do it 100% of rinning both ways, it is going to be 1 mile) 2nd time really feels like an improvement. (first time 7 am, second time 8pm
I'm lucky to be able to run around 10am as I work from home. It's not always possible but in any case I only run after work if I've had a stressful day as running helps me to relax. But clearly for me, mid morning is my best time.
Nice and sometimes i feel that I should do that same strategy as i'm also an early riser but want to get my workouts out of the way I guess so i can focus on family and business.
I'm very nervous usually but I started 30 minutes slow and easy running in the evening and I do it 3-5 hours before bed and next morning I am calm and day goes also more relaxed state. If i do it in the morning it's not working the same.
i much prefer early (5am or earlier even) running. for me i just love how quiet it is, especially after a new snow. also there are no cars so i don't breathe in exhaust. however right now all my runs happen after an hour or two on my indoor trainer and i have to be at work at 7am, therefore it's just not possible. in short i prefer early morning runs, but my schedule only allows late evening ones.
I can tell you that I prefer for myself to run in the morning. One main reason I love morning run is that it's simply easy for me to control my heart rate and my heart is hard to spike compared to when I run in the afternoon, my heart rate easily spikes although I just have my easy run.
Morning is a better time, but if you are a seasoned runner feel like a commando soldier!!! Any time is tea time ! 👍🙌😀😎best wishes from Colombo Sri Lanka!
Every other day run first thing in the morning, then breakfast. Strength training midday with protein drink during and after. Eat dinner in the afternoon then evening walking to ease into nighttime. Don't forget to stretch twice a day! 💪💯
Quick word on fasted running if your diet is such that you burn almost only fat as fuel then you can run very easy fasted that is for low and medium intensity runs. When doing high intensity runs fasted you feel like you just miss a gear or 2 so If you plan a high intensity run then get some carbs down your neck before hand for that extra gear or 2 to hit your goals... Also good for competition day, train fasted eat carbs before competition day 👍🏻
I tried this, I’m a serious athlete and I have personal recordings of casually and continuously running five minute miles, and had done a couple twelve miles before and a ten I got into the habit of doing my workout at night after work and also in the morning too and that went on for years until I started morning workouts which would range from three am to six am and I’d go on with my day I’m getting back into after work working out and it’s because there will be less training drag for me. Thanks for your video though and all the from America love to you all
Morning is ok for a short and relatively easy run, but anything else evening. I need half an hour of warm-up so in the morning my body wont be awake for anything hard.
The best time to run is when you'll do it. I run after work because I'm not going to wake up earlier enough to run before work, even in the summer when it's 100 degrees after I get home.
hard to pick a time to get into roadwork training, working a high physical lifting labor job early days. I want to get my cardio up to par to start kickboxing seriously again but i either gotta do it right when I'm up at 4am after a short fuel or try to have the energy after work in the night. I refuse to run in the heat of Florida.
Morning runs are for the weekends. Evening runs are for weekdays. It also keeps me in check to eat well during the day if I have an evening run whereas when I have a morning run, I tend to overeat later in the day.
My work schedule has me up and out the door for work often times by 5:30. Squeezing in a run before then would require me to get up as early as 3 AM. I also live in Florida. So for most of the year, the temps are 90°+ during the day with 85%+ humidity. So afternoon/evening running is much more difficult. So I usually don't start my runs until 9PM. It's not ideal, but it's either run late at night or not at all.
yeah that makes sense esepcailly with the type of weather where you live! I have the opposite temperature problem with me living in Alaska as snow is pretty much here already
I'm 100% an early bird, lately I haven't been able to do a morning run due to changes in my job, but I try to do it during lunch time, anything later in the day feels miserable.
When is your favourite time to run? 🏃♀️
Early morning as early as 05.00 AM with two glass of hot water..💪😎🏃
start before sunrise, finish at 8-9am
Living in SEA, its hot and humid here(SG) in the evening :/
start with half apple + few glass of water
Morning for me. Helps with discipline
Near sunset time to escape the afternoon slump!
Evenings as I am no good am and my legs always feel numb
I’m definitely a pm runner. I like to run and not have the stress of going to work afterwards.
And find it’s more of a de-stressor after a hard day. Plus I believe I benefit more from the deep sleep I’m in at that early hour.
Great strategy and I tend to always run in the morning but I'll try.a PM run maybe as we enter the holidays to test out different methods!
I still have high HR when going to sleep everytime i had an afterwork or evening run. I really find it hard to sleep doing so. Do you have strategy or some sort? Thanks
Exactly.
@@kenvysmiguel8817 Have you tried sleeping supplements
I prefer to do my workouts early in the morning when I am groggy so that when I am done, it is like it never happened or was a dream.
Dad of 3 small boys, I'm just happy to get out whenever I get a chance!
Amen when you have a family makes it more difficult to get a solid run in.
Personally I like running in the MIDDLE of the day the best. I usually get up, do some work for a few hours until my concentration starts to dwindle and then go for a run. Yes this is me too - I'm an IT consultant and a run in the middle of the day is like a pick me up.
Being a mom of 4, I have to do my exercise before anyone wakes up. I have to give me the first hours of the day so I can function better through the day.

I can't run fast in the morning. My body needs to be at least 4 hours awake to perform a good run.
4 hours? Lol maybe a coffee or 2 can shorten that
As an ultra-runner, AM or PM you're always running.
At least I am😅.
Lovely insights in this videos. Cheers!
Evening run all the way. I work a 9 to 5 and then I like to run when I am awake and sharp and also energetic. After a good shower and a good meal, I can side hustle for 2 hours, spend some time with family and sleep like a baby.

I miss my morning runs. Now I’m back to the beginning and should do am again.
Morning all the way for me.
The sitting on a sofa trap is also so true.
After 20 years in the sport that severely depends on the person. I have done both over the years. The toughest part of the morning is getting up and getting out the door.
The evening run well that all depends on your daily life.
A fasted easy 5 mile run in the morning is my favorite run of the week! I like a mid day run sometimes, and I hate running after dinner
Yeah same thing here I almost do all of my runs fasted as I hate running with tons of food in my system.
I'm an evening runner. My body won't work in the morning 🤣. Plus I live in the Texas heat, so usually it's cooled off enough by 7 to 8 to go on a okay run. The humidity undoubtedly still sucks but hey when will it ever not suck.

Yes I'm always cognicent of my surroundings and hard to do when it's diffucult to see but like you said nothing beats those views!
Love hitting the morning runs, definitely something that had helped me stay committed to my training
I like to run in the mornings, it's easier mentally to run in the mornings than it is in the afternoon and later in the day.

I'm a PM everything
Sometimes, morning is good for me when I'm doing short-moderate distance easy runs, and I can get in caffeine pre-run (via tablet). I just make sure I eat enough the night before. Really late at night (usually midnight or 1 am) then having a nice sleep in afterwards!
Skipping Dinner and do Morning run with empty stomach at Zone2 is very good for weight loss. PM run is good for Interval or Tempo session.
I used to be 100% a night owl, but since covid, the only time I can get a pool session is 5am so I have been getting up at the same time every day for routine. This meant switching to morning runs and I'm sold on them. There's something special about a crisp fall morning run.

Silly question, as PM running is for recreation and exercise, whereas AM runs are to escape the cops.
Workout at night while everyone sleeps with headlamp and all. Its surprisingly peaceful 9/10pm
absolutely a morning person....good mentality-wise because evening time my body feels more fatigued during runs and not as fresh
The side effects AM it makes you sleepy and tired in the work so PM is nice after your job

I find myself always getting a stitch when I run fasted!
One tip I found was to slow down my heart rate but I've always worked on strngething my core which has helped a ton
Gemel Sipin Fitness that could make sense - my core is definitely the weakest part of my body!
Fasted run every morning. Mix of 10k, fahtlek and short runs with my cardio rehab gym work twice a week.
Awesome and you sure are an early riser to get your workouts in. Do you take any per-workout or caffiene prior to your exercise?
@@geethunder1 Not after. Once I start working out I'm fine and I can just cunt it out. However after I'm done I need to get myself some coffee or caffeine to make sure I don't struggle throughout the day. I have a rest day everyweek and make sure I have deload weeks.
Early morning for me just before the sun comes up so that during my run I see the sun rise
AM. The afternoon is too hot and evening is too late
I haven't gone for a run in 3 months. Working like a madman has me without time
In the Australian summer, you can’t wake up early enough to beat the heat. 9pm runs all the way through December-February 😍
Morning runs are the best!
Yes I agree as i do most if not all of my running sessions in the morning after a trip to the restroom and a little caffeiene
Morning on an empty stomach I feel is better for me, but i like to switch things up and run at any hours of the day or when I can.
I'm an early bird!!! And helps to be used to races, that are generally in the early morning 😁
Or, if I do it 100% of rinning both ways, it is going to be 1 mile)
2nd time really feels like an improvement.
(first time 7 am, second time 8pm
I'm lucky to be able to run around 10am as I work from home. It's not always possible but in any case I only run after work if I've had a stressful day as running helps me to relax. But clearly for me, mid morning is my best time.
I train every week day starting between 0500 & 0530 and by 0900 on a Saturday but normally depends on the type and session.
My plantar is stiff when I wake. But having a small dog gets me out for a 4 mile walk. Come evening the stiffness has gone and can stretch the legs
evening. I'm an early-ish riser (5am) with no alarm, but i can't run for the life of me before 10am. I normally run 4pm, but i'm ok up to about 8pm.
I want to get my cardio up to par to start kickboxing seriously again but i either gotta do it right when I'm up at 4am after a short fuel
or try to have the energy after work in the night. I refuse to run in the heat of Florida.
Cardio in the morning and then weights in the pm
🤝 I’m right there with you
You guys should post a poll on this.
Morning runs are for the weekends. Evening runs are for weekdays. It also keeps me in check to eat well during the day if I have an evening run whereas when I have a morning run, I tend to overeat later in the day.
I agree!
You can not get out that quick am because you immediately need the loo! My tendons seem tight so more concerned about injury.
definitely morning for those longer runs but afternoon/evenings for those track sessions
I am always trying to guess where Heather is. Spain. Right?
Oh don't I wish!
Hmm I'm curious as well but it looks beautiful out there
Evening time suits me
Right around 5pm after work so that I don't have trouble sleeping by being overheated. And because I am not a morning person at all.
I always get tired, soreness or pain after my run so evening is better. I can simply shower, eat then go to bed after my run.
Morning almost always!
yes same thing here! Now I just have to wear a head lamp since it's so dark!
