I still have the original Sand Scorcher I received as a Christmas present. Fond memories building it with my Dad.
Merry Christmas.
worth good money now the orignal models...
@@hovermotion I've owned it since 1979, too many memories to sell it now. I purchased the re-release but never built it, the blister packs and packaging take me back to my childhood...priceless.
Lovely
I still have my Rough Rider I got when I was a kid in 1981. I saved and saved to get it. Of course I had to get the Sand Scorcher body-kit as well😊.
I also remember the original U-joints were made of brass and wore out quickly because the metal was so soft.
Cheers!
I bought my Rough Rider in 1980 and worked my butt off to buy it ($150). BTW I was in 11th grade.
I wish more women would get into this hobby. I got my wife into driving Rock Crawler trucks. She is still learning but seems to like it. We can go outside, we can stay safe and have fun and avoid COVID-19 too. I also got my kids Rock Crawler trucks too. I am trying to get the whole family involved. I do not think I can get my wife to build an R/C car, but maybe in the future. I will get her to watch your video on RUclips. Thank You!
Brilliant lady 😀👍
i bought one when it first came out, in early 80's.it has be said this truly iconic
My second RC was the Rough Rider just after I got a RC12e both back in 79. Always wanted the Sand Scorcher and finally got it last year. What memories
I love watching the build, its the fun part , learning as you go along
This was the first encounter with RC cars as a little boy. Man, love it.
Great video. I’m going to be doing one of these models. It’s good insight knowing what parts I should upgrade before I start. Thank you for doing such a great job,
Thanks for this.
Brings back memories of when I built mine..... and modded it over the years.
Hope you all have a great Christmas. 👍🥳
And the same to the other RCKicker watchers! 👍🥳
did you constantly crack your body due to the mounting points and the rear deck flexing? I had a rough rider from the 70's and the body didn't last 1 run......same as the tie rods...broke at least 2 every time I ran it.
@@muskokamike127 Nah, never had that issue.
I never really did much off road, just tarmac and kerb jumps.
@@Ratty_Rex curb jumps, that's how I broke mine lol....first one SNAP goes the body.....It may be better with the sand scorcher since it's a vw bug body. Mine was the rough rider which was a buggy body and it was really thin on each side of the roll bar.
It’s amazing how much RC has changed in 40 years, what a great retro kit. Look forward to the next video.
Just beautiful. Sand scorcher and Rebecca. Merry christmas for both of you.
That was a really fun video. It would be nice seeing you two working as a team on a set or three. 👍
Absolutely beautiful.
And the cars okay too. 👍
Servo saver is on the front body mounting post, they didn't put them at the servo itself back then.... (If you use a more modern style at the servo, Id suggest strongly finding a way to keep the front post mount saver from having any movement at all.. you'll have zero steering control especially with the locked rear end... Still have my original 80's model! ) Love seeing that Tamiya was faithful in the recreation of this kit (except my front bumper was grey, and I hated that, so I painted mine black. Nice touch to include a black one in the kit now!
This is one RC that has eluded me. Ever sense I was a kid. I'm still waiting to get one ..
Merry Christmas to you too and a happy new year
You too
You too buddy
Rebecca, lovely smile!
Tamiya should do more metal RC cars. And yes I know they will be expensive.
That was good build n grate to c Rebecca doin a build she should b on more often good job hun x👍👍👍
My daughter is totally stoaked to see another girl into R/C and has been begging me to do her 1st kit now. I think we will start with something a bit more tame..lol. Great content!
I love a woman who loves the hobby! 👌🥰👍great job!
Nice build, this was my very forst RC car, back in the mid 80's lol. The suspension is based on the actual VW Beetle, torsion bars on the rear and the same setup as the proper car on the front. So much detail (If a pain in the rear to put together in this kit) I need to get myself another as I keep seeing this beauty popping up on my YT feed lol
Gavin, you totally married up!
Amazing build.
I'm glad you like it
Loved the Buggy since I was a kid and I still want to get one!
Great video! Merry Christmas and a Happy new year to you all 🎅❄️🎄⛄
A good REAR suspension replacement is the Tamiya C.V.A Mini Shock Unit Set 2 (part 50519). For the front however, you can use the springs from the battery box locks and put them in between the shock body and the brass head (around the shaft).
Loving the 'Terminator' factoid there Rebecca ! Well done by the way, your involvement is truly inspiring ;)
Thank you so much David, Becs.
The servo saver is on the front body post ( the bit with the giant circlip) you don’t need one on the servo as well, it is soft as it is. But love an srb!
Great job. I never built a Sand Scorcher before. I still have my original Super Champ. I'm gonna do a new one of these when they come out.
You guys are a great couple. Fun to watch and the banter is awesome!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome build, fun to watch. Great end result, too. Thanks Rebecca 👍
Hi great vid love the car. For Christmas my dad got me a terra scorcher so I'm building it now. Can't wait for it to be finished.
So, it's Tamiya's fault that Skynet gets built then!!! Seriously though, that's one great looking vintage Tamiya chassis, absolutely love it!!
Excellent build video!!!
Very cool build!
Merry Christmas to you both all the best for 2021 love the vids that you both do keep up the good work 👍👍
I’m caught up now and have built my Christmas present Sand scorcher to the same stage. Looking forward to seeing the painting process and the finished buggy!
Coming soon
love the music
and Great job on the build
Cute car
wow, i have wanted one of these since they were first released...yeah im that old lol. Seriously thinking of treating myself for the new year. Would be happy to have one standard, or full size replica ( nowhere near enough pocket money lmao ) they are such an iconic car. There are so many extras in scale for them to make them more realistic. Love ya vids lady...nice one .
LOVE TAMIYA LIKE TRUCKS
Heh, I'm sure those dampers aren't much different to whatever dampers were in a real Beetle in 1979!
Loving the build though. I just bought myself one of these for Xmas!!!!!!!!!! 😁👍🏼
I had an original Sand Scorcher and yes, you had to position the shocks upside down to stop leaks. Cam locks havent improved! The little box at the front was where originally the large 27Mhx Rx went. The hump battery pack fitted at the back of the tub across the chassis. Everything was a tight fit! Shame the trick for clearing up the house didnt work!
8:52 Hahahaha :D
Happy holidays
Merry X-mas! Great build. The kit looks like its a 1:8 when Rebecca builds it :)
Merry Christmas to you both, loved all the videos
Merry Christmas to You two as well! Thankyou for all great content.
Happy holidays!
Great build video!! The backing track is awesome too… who’s the artist??
Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year also mi Familia Awesome vid 👍👊👌🙏🎄🎁💯🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Happy holidays!
Miss Rebecca.... You're quite charming and have really come into your own on Camera!!!
Merry Christmas to you and your Family! 🎄❄
..... Back in the 80's, we often fitted Shocks upside down, because they all leaked! 😖 Works just the same.
Happy Christmas Rebecca x
There's a full size Sand Scorcher at the Tamiya factory which I think is pretty cool.
Yep and a few others. I have also seen one at Goodwood a few years back.
Amazing to see how much metal parts there is in one of these. Great build video, Merry Christmas to both of you and all the best for the new year.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you both.
Amazing video, merry Christmas and happy New year 🥰🎄🎁⛄⛪🎆
Thank you! You too!
Ohh I love the sand scorcher it was my first rc ❤️ and soon I build another 38 years later what a sad 53 yr old I am lol 🙀
Happy Christmas guys, let all the Christmas building begin!
I have it and it runs very fast!
The inverted dampers is not a bad idea. Many people building 1/24th scale crawlers mount them inverted and find they seem to work better for those tiny dampers.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and all your viewers.
Happy holidays!
Looking at those shocks, what about a set of Old Man Emu Nitrochargers? Not sure if the sizes are compatible, but they'd give a scale look which I think would look appropriate on that vehicle.
Gavin know's how to spoil you Rebecca, are those Klingon ears you're wearing 🤣🤣
Excellent job 👍
Thanks 👍
Merry Christmas RC Kicks
Thanks GM, back at you! Hope you had a nice time?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year you two! Great show!
Happy holidays!
Nice build.
Rear tyres on backwards?
That is an awesome kit
Merry Christmas
Happy holidays!
Welp boys and girls I believe Gav has cracked into the eggnog a little hard this year while editing this one lol
Happy Christmas! To you two
I have to laugh, I gave away the one I bought last year. As if my great nephew won't have enough going on at UNI! So I've bought another this year, well, looking at the recommended retail price of £379, which will prolly be approaching £400 next year, I decided to go with Sussex Model Center's offer price of £313. Hehe, I just offered the SS body shell up to a Traxxas Rustler chassis, it looks epic!!!!!!!!
Awesome buggy, Merry Christmas
Oh my word, your so much cuter than Rick. Great video. Fun change. 🇺🇸👍
Who’s Rick ?
Your sweet .
like this music stile. Great prod too
Thanks
Happy xmas and newyear 🎄👍Keith
Happy Christmas Keith
@@RCKickschannel thank u guys many returns you guys gave incouraged me to start off on rc so got 2 affordable ones for xmas today obviously hobby grade crawlor 124 scale and commet buggy 112scale just to try get my daughter into rc i picked up 110scale cheep baja buggy its to learn her so yeah u guys ware big inspiration in my starting off so thank u for that I'll be enjoying ur vids guys thank u from across pond in Ireland to u guys Happy xmas wish you all the best. hope we all have a better year ahead 2021👍👍🎄
I tweak my torsion bars. I ride mine with a soft suspension and the ride height is 1/4” lower. It floats on the suspension. I recommend you try it if you can.
Will do 👍🏻
H , do you think replacing with either yeah racing desert lizard or rc4wd old man emu 90mm will work for this kit? Removing the internal spring.
That trans looks like it could fit the Traxxas bandit/rustler VXL hardened steel gears
🤣🤣 not as nice as your rear end my love lmao.. love it.. lol
Nice build definitely on my list this year. I’ve got a frog to build over Christmas and I’ve got an original Chevy clod buster that I’ve had for years in storage so I’m torn weather to build that or not 😬. Happy Christmas to you both 🎅🏻
What brand of transmitter can cooperate with the Tamiya receiver? Thank you.
Was that true about the Terminator part? If so, I'm definitely buying a Sand Scorcher
I like how you did the X-ray thing and I was going to tell you your wife is a star now check out her shirt bro Bedazzled and I was going to tell you she's got some pretty smart words on her you should put the Union Jack on that little antenna thingy I like it it's pretty cool
Jumping gee willikers look over there eight tiny reindeer is that Santa Claus
Made you look awesome video Gavin and Rebecca
8m 54s ......... I have to agree!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good!
Gav I am so excited for tomorrow because I can finally get my hands on my AUDI V8 TOURING TT02 kit! I’ve been waiting for it since October
Enjoy your kit 👍🏻
That brings back memories watching you build that & it doesn’t look like Tamiya changed much from the original?
I still have my Ford Ranger which my mother got me for Christmas In the late 70’s early 80’s “ I think! ”
I restored it back to it’s former glory long before Tamiya ruined things by introducing the re-make and spent a fortune purchasing original new old stock from around the world, it’s just stored in a box awaiting the prices to rise again “hopefully”
I even have an original new in box old stock complete Ford Ranger body kit (unassembled)
I’ve just got to finish off it’s display stand and I think I will sell it I think! it’s to good to use I would say it’s better than what it originally was out the box.
Would love to have the time for a hobby like this.
Nice to see ladies into the hobbie.
What a cool wife.
Cheeky Gav at 8:54 !!!!!
Which kit is that VW with the number 53 on it? Looks very nice!
Thats the movie car Herbie
Hi Gav - just wanted to wish you and Rebecca and your family a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful (and hopefully much better) New Year - cheers! :O)
Thanks Mark, that’s most kind. Hope you and the family have a lovely Christmas and we get some great Rere RC cars released next year.
@@RCKickschannel I'll drink to that my friend! :)
had this model in the early 80s.....the shocks were without any function already back then.....and licked like the hell. You forgot the silicon...but probably looks more clean without
Merry Christmas guuyssss
Happy holidays!
I never realised how much metal was in the Sand Scorcher.
The only things that leak faster than those re release dampers are the vintage ones.
I owned a rough rider from the 70's which is identical to this kit. Here's some major downfalls in the design: I'm hoping the carbon fibre deck is more rigid than the FRP deck from the original. What happens is the way the body is mounted you end up breaking the body due to the mounting points. You can do two things: put some rubber grommets or foam in between the screws that hold down the clip that attaches to the rear roll bar, that allows the body to flex. Or you can put a metal bar running from the rear roll bar to the front mounting post.
The tie rods for the steering adjustment need to be turnbuckles. You have to clip them on and off to adjust toe in and out and they break very easily where the rod screws in to the ball end. I used to go through at least 2 a day.
Think it's just black FRP.
@@DaveyGa hope not.....
Is the whole kit metal to start with?
Everything in the build was stick apart from the metal rims
