    nice greenhouse, and you are absolutely right, plants look much better in a greenhouse.I dont have one but I think carnivorous plants really need one.

      I don't think it's really necessary, I've seen some folks let them get covered in snow and ice during winter and they just grew back in spring, especially because that's what happens in their natural habitat

    I did the same thing when I wanted to get a grow tent for my plants, went to the wife like "Sooo.... how do you feel about having a grow tent?". Gotta love when your family is supportive with your hobbies.

    Well, it IS the UK, so...😉
    *EDIT:* I was born and raised in Florida, USA, where cold summers are NOT a problem...😊
    Some people say Florida does not have seasons. Not true. Florida has _two_ of them:
    (1) HURRICANE SEASON
    (2) WAITING FOR HURRICANE SEASON

    I am in uk and new to carnivorous plants. Will you recommend i place my VFT outside during winter or inside the house with south facing window? As my wife uses the radiator every night in winter, i am afraid they dont get a good dormancy

    Should have just bought new clips while you had it all apart. A big box of clips is less money than a single pane of glass. You'd be gutted if some of the old clips fails and you lose a few panes

    It looks great. I wonder how many more plants you have since then.
    I have also rehomed a greenhouse of similar type. I found amazon really helpful for all fixings including internal ones to allow hanging etc.
    I also made a big bench using an old bed. Check out my video.

    Im a new grower and have some collection starting here,
    I live in Germany and im concerned about the winter as it can be very harsh.
    Is a plastic grow house and Styrofoam enough for my venus flytraps to isolate them from frosting in the winter during dormancy?

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  Год назад +2

      A plastic greenhouse will do fine in winter but not in summer, as the sun gets extremely hot in one of those plastic ones. Usually people move them indoors during the winter, into an unheated room or garage that has a south facing window.

    • @mohammadal-ayoubi9786
      @mohammadal-ayoubi9786 Год назад

      @The Flytrap Garden Unfortunately, Indoors is a bit tought since the entire flat is heated all the time and they won't get the low Temperature.
      In the summer, I let them hang outside under the sun :)
      Thanks, I'll try out the plastic growhouse in the winter then.

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  Год назад +1

      I have moved countries in that time, so the cobras I had in Australia are not here anymore. I sold them off and a few died when I had to move houses unexpectedly. I have new cobra lillies now in England

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  Год назад +2

      Yes I am conscious of the cobras but they don’t seem to care at all so far as it gets really cold at night, and their roots are always cold because of the cold water lol so they seem to be fine. But definitely keeping an eye out

    Is pH value in a venus flytraps soil essential? my soil mix is at neutral stage (7)

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  Год назад

      If you used peat it will naturally go down to a slightly acidic ph which they need

      @@TheFlytrapGarden I cant seem to find Peat moss anywhere for sale in my country, so I found a carnivorous plant mix online which is made up of (Sphagnum moss, vermiculite, horticultural sand, activated carbon and coco coir.) But my pH meter still reads it to be 7.0. So I dont really know what to do

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  Год назад +1

      @@Omega3000-y9r that soil recipe isn’t ideal for carnivorous plants, I’m not sure who you got that recipe from? The best would be a nepenthes for that recipe but even then, not entirely. Vermiculite has a basic pH and charcoal is a neutralizer as far as I remember so it will stay neutral. Sphagnum moss and perlite can work fine if you can find that? Feel free to send me an email and I can help you more. Let me know which country you are in and what soil you are able to find in your county and I can help you choose the best soil from what you have available

    Amazing greenhouse but I have a question about my Venus Flytrap hope you don't mind
    I was trying to feed my VFT but they don't close

    And sometime the Traps that closed won't reopen

    Cost effective benches you can either build them for about 30-100 quid depending on what you need. Or if you are near a B&Q/Homebase. Look for Shed Shelf Racks. They are metal shelf racks with MDF Chipboard layers you can put in and adjust to however high you want em.

  • @jkrofchick90
    @jkrofchick90 Год назад +2

    Getting a greenhouse was my best gift to myself. I have 2 now both 8x10 ft greenhouses. I built all of my shelves with 2x4s it’s cheaper and stronger than any shelf you can buy. I also have the plastic 3 tiered storage shelves which work nicely I put the full sun plants on the top shelf and the two below get lower light plants like nepenthes. I will say though that in the summer it should be covered with a light colored tarp to let the sunlight through a little and keep it from getting too hot. I live in Florida though so that might not be a problem for you. But even with the tarp my carnivorous plants grow like weeds , so much so I have too many and am going to start selling locally . A big thing for me was to use 100 percent silicone around every pane of glass. If you get enough wind (for example we get hurricanes here) the panels will get pulled out . Also a fan is very beneficial. Congrats on the greenhouse!

    • @TheFlytrapGarden
      @TheFlytrapGarden  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the idea! Do you maybe have some info or a pic as to how you built your shelves? I don't think the wind or heat is as bad here as it is in Florida haha, thank you!
