  • Only a small fraction of career firefighters in the United States are women. The California Conservation Corps and the National Park Service are working together to change that with support from the National Park Foundation. In 2021, six California Conservation Corps members formed Yosemite’s first Women’s Fire Corps Crew. Crew members learned basic skills for firefighting and fire management, while connecting with mentors to prepare for future fire careers.

Awesome, this should've happened 30 years ago but better late than never. I was on a CCC fire crew in 1988 and the women in the crew were some of the toughest for sure. Much respect.

I'd like to see some objective effectiveness metrics comparing men crews vs women crews.

I'm not sure why its called the first, as in the mid-1970s there was an all-female fire crew stationed at Lake Eleanor.

Anyone who can meet the standards should be able to be brought aboard. That's America.
However, when someone says they are afraid of the tools of the job and they admit to being small, that doesn't sound like they met the standards (at least not yet - but here she is doing it anyway). That's how people get killed or severely hurt. Take the best and let the rest keep working to become the best.

Bro, let them try and prove themself before assuming they will fail. They are abviously training here, it takes time to learn the skills.
Btw, America is more than just the U.S.A.

@@MrNeutross Who is bro? That you can't see the word "yet" in my statement is on you. That they are training should have been included in the title or introduction, that's on the film makers.
As for America being more than the USA, what a ridicules thing to say. Go to any country in the world and ask them what an American is and where they live and only one answer will be given, because only one answer is correct. The American embassies ALL belong to the US and it's a giant hole in your education that you don't know that. Whoever told you that should be smacked for giving you such foolish non-information.
