When pulling your thread off the spool, the part that is in your hand, not where you cut it, is what goes in your needle. You want to stitch with the grain of the thread and it won’t twist and knot as much. Also, separate your strands of floss, bring them back together before threading the needle. Your stitches will be much fuller. Just some advice from a long term cross stitcher.
Have been cross stitching for more years than quilting - you did well showing how to cross stitch Kimberly . Another tip - you can iron cross stitch after you have finished - you put a towel on the ironing board (I double the towel) and place the cross stitch face down (stitches down) and iron the back - this method doesn't flatten the stitches. I used my cross stitch in my quilts for my kids many many years ago, and it was washed many times and not one stitch came undone. So cross stitch is very versatile. Also if you have dyed fabric you can dye aida cloth the same - works well and often gives a mottled effect.
I dabbled in cross stitch 25-30 yrs ago long before the internet and the fun of sharing through live stream, LOL! You're fun to watch and I love listening to you answer everyone's funny questions. I'm very much like you: black & white, if it works don't fix it or getting outside the box. Thanks Kimberly!!
I’ve been watching you on this channel for sometime. MANY years ago I did a project and loved it. I didn’t know how to start and finish but did my own thing, probably knots!! I did tape the edges of the cloth. I think I want to get back into it but need a simple project to start. I’ll look on your site for a pattern. Thanks for showing us how you do it.
Just discovered your early YT videos. It’s so interesting how it’s changed in those few years. Now you’re doing stitch in hand, use project bags (not pillowcase), etc. it was good to see as I’d gotten the q tube thingies and couldn’t figure out how to attach it to the fabric! Didn’t read instructions on the packet😫 I’ve always loved xstitch…thanks Kimberley. 🇦🇺
Hello this is Mary Ann from South Jersey I am a quilter I love watching your videos I am just learning to cross stitch I am very interested in watching you cross stitch it makes me feel as though you're teaching me how to do this and I appreciate it and the inspiration to try to learn to do this thank you
I have been cross stitching for many decades. One suggestion is to pull your threads apart and put them back together. It gets the threads separated and the threads are fluffy and straighter. Fills in the squares better. I also zig zag around my edges instead of the tape. I don't use a hoop. I found it better for me to not hoop so I can "sew" my stitches. It is so awesome how there are so many ways to get projects done. Great job!!! Happy Stitching.
Cross stitch is fun. I sometimes print the pattern so I can highlight or marker out what I’ve completed. I cross stitched all of my kids (now adults) Christmas stockings and they hang over the fireplace today. Looking forward to the day I make them for grandkids.
I have been cross stitching for 30+ years. I love the 16 count Aida. I started quilting because of not wanting to use frames anymore. I giggled when you said about not liking French knots or back stitching, I hate them as well. I use seed beads if I have to put in a knot.
Lori has cross stitch patterns yeah! They are adorable❣️ I’m cross stitching again after a 20 year break. Thanks for all the tips..it’s not easy doing this for the camera! I’m also a Flosstuber :-)
I have never crossed stitch. I have ordered one of Lori Holts cards as I was told it was a good beginner. I wished Lily could of zoomed in closer so I could see how you actually do the stitching. Did the pattern state to start 3 stitches from over or if this is something you just do? Could you do a series like you did with the beginner quilt? Because I was getting confused and overwhelmed from questions from actual cross stitchers 😩
How do you get so much done? I’m back to cross stitching again. I do mostly quilting. But I am also 82 years old and just moved to Kansas because I wanted to be closer to family as I have some health problems. I love all of your projects.
Don't know where you find time....can't wait for Serendipity tomorrow...Wednesday. A widower gave me his wife's 'stash' I have enough for my lifetime!!!+
Absolutely loved watching this video. I too have been cross stitching for lots of years. Since watching the video I have been looking for UK stockists of Lori Holt’s cross stitch kits etc without success. I’m hoping may be @sewhotuk may stock them in the future. How about a UK branch of your online shop Kimberley?!
Thank you for this lovely video. I have been cross stitching many years, but loved watching this tutorial. I also appreciate your positive presentation! I ordered the pattern from your Etsy shop.
I know this is a year late but... I used to say “I don’t cook. I don’t clean. I make money and babies.” 😂This was after our 5th child and working as a nurse full time while starting our own business.
Can you tell me name of floss that is maybe thicker and not as thin or as many strands as DMC. I hear you mention a few on a few of your videos but since I am not a regular sticher. Thought I would ask the pros. Thanks
hi! my name is Elaine Halstead, I'm just getting back into cross stitch, my late Grandmother tough me when i was in my teens how can i orer your cross stitches
The quilt hanging is this one: www.fatquartershop.com/i-love-nine-patches-quilt-book And the one on the table is called Maple Leaf and will be available for download soon!
Hi Kimberly, Thank you for the Floss Tube #1 video. When you measure out the amount of floss to cut for stitching, would you the length be about 18 inches? Thank you for your help.
It's the same Cross-stitch pattern, just used as fabric for a pillow, and it is called Farm Girl Fall: www.fatquartershop.com/farm-girl-fall-cross-stitch-pattern

Mindy Gooding oh awesome tips! I twist my thread a lot
Also a long time counted cross-stitcher here! Spot on about separating the threads. I've been doing that for almost 30 years.
Thank you

I recently pulled out a project I started twenty-five years ago. I forgot how relaxing it is.

I cross stitch my quilt labels to match my quilts. Really adds a special touch to my quilts.

Omg I love the farm girl and now I've purchased it :-) Kimberly you are the sweetest and so genuine!
These are really cute and I'm glad you are offering all of the supplies needed.

I used to cross-stitch avidly. I seem to remember that Lori started out way back when with crosstitch patterns? Love the new patterns!

I now see how you position the magnet on your rows. Great idea vs highlighting method. Will look for magnet notion! Thanks

Just bought off brand frame before watching your video. I hate them! I need to wait and buy the brand you recommend.
I can’t remember which video. Had the cross stitch split to keep it flat. Could you explain it again?
Hello Sandra! Kimberly talks about railroading in this video: ruclips.net/video/ew8AO5x7GRY/видео.html
I know this is a year late but... I used to say “I don’t cook. I don’t clean. I make money and babies.” 😂This was after our 5th child and working as a nurse full time while starting our own business.

Hi Kimberly, Thank you for the Floss Tube #1 video. When you measure out the amount of floss to cut for stitching, would you the length be about 18 inches? Thank you for your help.
Hello Riese! Yes, it’s about 18 inches once it’s looped.
I’m not really into the farm stuff. Will you be having others themed patterns?
Hi Kathy, we will begin with Farm Girl and if people want to keep going then perhaps we will do a Christmas themed Cross Stitch.
But my mother has them printed on the pillowcase.or whatever...
I would like to do the pillow one. What’s that one called.
It's the same Cross-stitch pattern, just used as fabric for a pillow, and it is called Farm Girl Fall: www.fatquartershop.com/farm-girl-fall-cross-stitch-pattern
Is Kimberly using 10 Count Oatmeal?
I love cross stitching on linen. But my eyes are too bad now.
