After all the hype about Palo, I was really looking forward to our dinner there. I love calamari and was happy to see it as a choice. The waiter made a big deal about if you were used to calamari being rubbery you would be impressed. The calamari however was rubbery and I pointed that out to the waiter. The herb crusted salmon that I had was totally unimpressive. None of the herbflavors came through. The service was spectacular. But as this was a Disney cruise the service was just as at our regular dinner. I might try for brunch instead of dinner on a future cruise, hopefully I’ll have a better response.
How does the platinum "included meal" work with the brunch. I know on paper it says dinner only, but I have had many brunches using my platinum credit. (I do usually come back for at least one dinner, but not guaranteed)
Excellent review on Palo. We are also Platinum and have always enjoyed Palo (and Remy) on all of our cruises. I hope this Osso Buco was just a bad day for the chef. We'll see. See you in May on the DIS cruise.
We were just in the Disney dream it was our first time at palo, we will never go back plus they are charging 18 percent gratuity on top of bill and our waitress said it was for Disney not for her, so we tipped her well and will NEVER go back, the food was terrible anyways but service was superb!
Please tell me you did brunch and will be posting a review. I would really like to know how that is now. I know they’re no longer doing the buffet portion, which is so disappointing, but would really like to know how you like it.
More nickel and diming by Disney, and these cruises are ludicrously priced. I went on Magic in September and it was good. But asked Dreams to price me a 3 night for 4 people next Xmas and it was $6.5k! RCI going to the amazing CocoCay is $1.9k! That is ridiculous price difference.
On the Fantasy in early January, I got the filet as part of the al a carte menu. It didn't come with a side. Usually it comes with risotto or mashed potatoes. We had to purchase a side if we wanted one. My husband got the Dover Sole and it had sides. I'm not sure what happens if you get the filet as part of the pre fixe menu. I have to say it didn't seem special. Having to determine if something is "worth it" before ordering just isn't a thing on DCL until now. We usually do Palo brunch and dinner every cruise as we are Platinum and can snag a reservation but I definitely won't do both in the future, just one to use our platinum credit if we can fit it in.
Pete! They took something that was an absolute fabulous experienced and have ruined it! We get our platinum discount as well and may not even bother using it anymore.
@@CampbellzS0up Perhaps not. I'm Just tired of all the upselling. I want to be able to order whatever I want and as much of it as I want and not have to pay extra for what used to be included. And they ruined the brunch by taking away the buffet selection. Doing Fantasy in May and Wish in July, and they've really turned me off to Palo and have little interest in going there.
I wonder if they did the price change because the demand was too high. I think they should have just increased the price and maybe limit the main course to 1 serving and let desert and appetizers be unlimited. Maybe then the demand would go down.
I ordered the smaller size filet (I believe 6 oz) and my husband ordered the 8 oz filet both on the a-la-carte. We both agreed the 8 oz was better. Menu lists the 6 oz as choice and the 8 oz as prime. Fixed prix offers the 6 oz choice.
The 8oz is the better value. 6oz "choice" is $26 and 8oz "prime" is $32. For a $6 difference you are getting 2 additional ounces, but you are getting a much better cut of beed. The taste profile between the two is so distinct.
I would say that at those price points per dish I would love them. Not many places give bresaola on their AntipastO plates. Would love to taste that Osso Buco to sense what was missing.
Have dined at Palo many, many times. Always a 'look forward to' dining experience. I hope DCL will eventually realize they attempted to fix something that wasn't broken by removing the 'flat-rate' dining charge in favor of the 'ala carte' menu. Osso Buco was always a personal favorite of mine. Thanks to Pete's unbiased review, I will set my expectations (and appetite) a little lower.
I am looking forward to Palo when I’m on the Wonder in a few weeks. I don’t get the osso buco usually. Either the filet or the lamb are my go to. Hopefully they will be as good as I remember.
I like how you are framing these new Palo reviews. They have to be evaluated differently when they are charging a la cart. I think on my next trip I am going to try to go twice, do one visit on the prix fix and one doing a la carte to compare. Thanks for the review!
We did Palo on the Magic 1/17/22 sailing and I just didn't feel like the experience and food options were that much better than what we were getting in the main dining room. Service was fantastic though.
I'm sad to hear about that pricing change. I agree with you, in that if they are going to charge per plate like a traditional restaurant, the food needs to be standout. You go to a restaurant for food - not service.
That antipasto Pete, oh my lord looked so well done! This made my mouth water watching this. I'd LOVE Palo. My wife and I need to take a cruise like yesterday.
I've had the osso buco twice since the restart (once on the Dream and once on the Fantasy) and both were every bit as good as in the "before times". So perhaps Pete's experience was just a one-off bad night.
I have reserved Palo for our next sailing in April, I’m sorry to here you were disappointed! I’m hoping we still enjoy it but looking at the new format and menu I am having my doubts. We always dine at Palo on pirate night as both my husband and I don’t really like anything on the pirate menu and we’ve always loved Palo.
I watched your Palo review from your last cruise...and you said the same thing about the Osso Bucco then too...bland, no flavor, needed salt then too...I guess it hasn't improved any :(
Agree, the last review was identical. Honestly thought this most recent review was recycled from Nov.2021. Perhaps this is the vlog that corresponds to the Nov 2021?
Wow…Disney is ruining everything! The dinner and brunch were a must do before. Maybe for those who never had it originally they will like but the charcuterie was free before and you could try multiple items and it was such a pleasure. The brunch not having warm sticky buns, cheeses and all the little desserts is a crime☹️
Yay! It’s Pete and Drake! 🥳 Thank you for the review! I have never been to Palo, as I have only been on DCL Dream once and could not get a reservation! I looked forward to the brunch! However, since that has changed drastically, I won’t try for a reservation on the upcoming Podcast Cruise! 🚢 🥘😜
Finally an honest review. Thanks!
Excellent reviews and amazing to sit outside, question what mic do you all use the recording is excellent
Brunch was fantastic

We know Disney is capable of retuning out good food, so why are there so few decent dishes in the regular dining rooms?
Thanks.

Going in August. Does it have steak or chicken. Overpriced Tomato sauces is not my thing

Wow, if your server was correct that the 18% gratuity goes to Disney and not the server, that does not even seem legal.
@@peggygray9436 ya we were shocked , same food you can get for free in restaurants. And it was not that great we were very disappointed.

A glowing pizza review from a native New Jersian is something to behold! We are picky pizza eaters!

You’re not using your free Palo entitlement?

We’ve decided that brunch is the way to go at Palo.
I want to try the ossa Buco now! I don’t want to pay for it though. Pete if you want to torture me with bad ossa buco i will be on your feb cruise

Excellent well done review ! Thank you Pete and Drake ! I tend to always agree with Pete. And he is right almost always !

Good review, but I don't think Pete should be surprised that his osso buco was on the bill. He was offered a replacement and didn't take it.
You record your reviews at the table DURING your meals?! Wow, I hope I never come across you at a Disney restaurant.
