Sadly a tacky, filthy neglected place now. The local council need a kick up the backside. Needs huge investment and regular cleaning measures all over.
Lovely film, I used to enjoy a trip to Skegness back in the day. I called in there a few weeks ago as I was in the area and only stayed for half an hour, it was awful.
How much did the 'we chose Skegness' family win on the Pools? Talk about accommodation on every budget! We (financially challenged) stayed at Linga Longas caravan park in '62 - complete with earwigs and a fabulous waste water system - a bucket under the washing up sink pipe! Oh, the smell of Calor gas lamps - the only light source at night......and a meat and two veg dinner on site for 1/6. I was 5 and over the moon that my dog could come with us. I still love looking at the photos of that now 'mists of time' holiday. Fast forward 55 years and my two early 20s daughters insist we go to Skeg-Vegas every year for a mini-break .A special place for Derbyshire people.
I was born in London but by the passage of work (thankfully happily retired now) I came to live in Skegness some 24 years ago but I am totally fascinated by this footage
Yes we came from London to bracing Skegness as well 16 years ago and also am fascinated with the footage.. not changed much we wouldn't come for a Holiday here put it that way lol!!!!!!
Oh I love nostalgia especially Skeggy. I'm only 46 so I can't remember anything pre 1976. It's lovely to see this. I like Butlins archives too. I was in the Long Eaton Militaires in the carnival so I have my own nostalgia as now our marching band is no more.
Had so many good times there as a kid, and now as a grown up with my own children. Was hoping for a bit of footage of the dunes pub at Winthorpe, before the fire. Thanks for posting 👍🏻
@@wateryteat5837 I honestly still miss it. Our parents used to be sat upstairs in the bar, and we'd be down in Smiths arcade. Only returning to mum and dad for more money, scampi fries and a bottle of pop 😂
I loved seeing the old Fantasy Island Ingoldmells footage at 41:54 that was taken between 1997 and 1998; seeing the brief POV of the Crazy Clown barrel ride and seeing the smoke and fire effects of the Volcano was definitely a highlight of that clip for me. :)
There planning on rebuilding the pier and making it 3-4 times bigger, some rich guy bought it and is waiting on council approval, new bar and some other things there
Searching for: Val Merrill's Big Sound At Butlin's', ( The yellow album, featuring 'The Butlin's Redcoat March). Should anyone still have a copy, PLEASE get in touch. Either for sale, or download. Thank you.

At 36mins 10Secs I found myself, mum and dad walking hand in hand, must have been about 1962ish. what a surprise!
what a charming voice Dave Bussey has , i could listen to him all day ,and such a nostalgic video , can,t wait to be there this year .
People coming off buses, train all in their Sunday best, not like now scruffy gets

Thanks for posting. Nostalgia seems to be catching!
9:45 is amazing. I have a bell clapper necklace from John Taylor foundry in Loughborough.

Ahhh, the dunes. My parents used to take me to Winthorpe all the time when I were young. Best holidays I ever had.

Policing in Skegness.
Law & Order. Constabulary. Police.
All you see now bloody windturbines spoilt the place 😢
The sea was still brown back then
I live in skegness so I know
Every beach on the east coast has brown water
@@kdcertiidiot I agree
What it was like is so boring
