She is famous for her hard work. (160 amazing videos on youtube and then there are instagram and tiktok). She is famous for never being nervous on stage (even at 7 years old). She is famous for her musical understanding and so on and so on. And despite all this, she is a humble sweet girl who want to share her love for music with the rest of the world. We're in the same boat... I just heard of this amazing artist a few days ago. I was listening to Queen covers, and I stumbled upon this. Since Tuesday, I have listened to around 10 of her different numbers. So far, the most striking is her performance on AGT when she was 13. Between the amazing voice and the absolutely MASTERFUL arrangement, she did what was (in my opinion) the most unique, 'make this my own' version of Bohemian Rhapsody that I've ever heard. If you don't want to react, at LEAST check it out. Your jaw will be on the floor. My journey following this young talent has a LONG road ahead! (Edited to add) If you didn't already know, she apparently does her OWN arrangements for all of her covers. That's why the Queen piece really floored me.
Scott, yes, you are correct. Angelina has been doing her own arrangements since age 8! If you haven't seen her "black & white" vintage-looking video where she is singing Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 1956 song "I Put a Spell on You" when she was 9 years & 2 months old, you should watch it ..... but prepare to be traumatized! She goes into full beast mode in that one, and it's an incredible sight and sound to witness! Lol! The band members in that video (who also do an amazing jazz job) affectionately referred to her as "The Boss," because she did her own arrangement and conferred with the conductor on what she humbly called her "wishes." You can see her making last minute changes on paper at the beginning of the video and the conductor smiling with acceptance as he reads them. Nina Simone is considered to be 'The Gold Standard' for this song. Well, 10 year old Angelina has taken it to 'The Platinum Standard' with this presentation. She has reigned supreme as 'The Queen Of Jazz' for sometime now.......and is only 16 at this point in time.

Do you honestly think Nina Simone could come near to someone like Billie Holiday? She's good, but don't get carried away and let me hear some of her songs when she was 10? Not too long ago they rated 'The Top 50 Jazz Singers Of All Time' and she didn't come near Billie or the highest rated one of them all, Ms. Ella Fitzgerald. By the time Angelina reaches adulthood, she will blow by all of them.
@@nfpnone8248 Just been and done that - first time ever listening to Nina Simone, I did enjoy Nina's version, except for the end. I loved her phrasing of the song and her enunciation was beautiful. Angelina's version in both tempo and phrasing was totally different, and I liked the two very low notes she used when singing the word "good" at the beginning and end, and the amazing crescendo was to die for. It is pointless comparing the two performances because, as I have commented, they were so different. The only thing one can say with some assurance is that one performance was that of a 32-year-old woman and the other by a 10-year-old child.
I cannot take it away from Nina Simone that hers is the best recording of this wonderful song. Angelina's interpretation however is brilliant, and would rate as the best stage performance I have ever seen or heard, whether she was 10, 30 or 50. As we all know, incredibly, she was ten!!!!

At this age, you need to forget about how young she is and just compare her equally to any other singer you know, of any age.
The reason Angelina is barefoot is that when she was six years old she gave her shoes to a homeless girl in Iran and ever since then she has vowed never to wear shoes when she performs until all the children of the world have shoes. You absolutely need to hear her versions of "bohemian rhapsody" on America's got talent and her version of "I put a spell on you". I promise it is well worth it!

In a interview, Angelina explains in her own words: As fans have come to know, Jordan likes to perform barefoot, in honor of a young girl she met when was 6 who didn’t have any shoes. Thank you for a great reaction. Angelina is not only famous for her low voice, but also for her total control over that voice. She's also famous for her reason not to ware shoes when she performs. She is famous for her hard work. (160 amazing videos on youtube and then there are instagram and tiktok). She is famous for never being nervous on stage (even at 7 years old). She is famous for her musical understanding and so on and so on. And despite all this, she is a humble sweet girl who want to share her love for music with the rest of the world. At 16 she's already a legend in many fans eyes.

Just a natural. Her voice and styling reminds me MUCH of Ella Henderson. So good.
You have just scratched the surface of this incredible talent. Being your first exposure to Angelina, you may be fooled into thinking she is so loved because she sounds older than her age. That might be the case for other child singers, but that is only a small part of what makes her special. Her musical intelligence is off the charts. She does things that make her age totally irrelevant. The choices she makes are those of a master level singer that has been doing it for decades. This will become more apparent when you hear more of the art she creates with her voice. She is not just "great for a kid", she is excellent for any age.

- Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 160 songs and over 70 artists. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.
- Angelina has written five of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield", "Oslo", "Million Miles", and "7th Heaven" (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.
- Updates: On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist".
On Nov 6 2020 she released her first single under Republic... "Million Miles"!
On March 19 2021 Angelina released her latest single "7th Heaven"
In Dec 2021 her cover of "Mercy" was in the opening credits for the movie "The Hating Game"

We're in the same boat... I just heard of this amazing artist a few days ago. I was listening to Queen covers, and I stumbled upon this. Since Tuesday, I have listened to around 10 of her different numbers. So far, the most striking is her performance on AGT when she was 13. Between the amazing voice and the absolutely MASTERFUL arrangement, she did what was (in my opinion) the most unique, 'make this my own' version of Bohemian Rhapsody that I've ever heard. If you don't want to react, at LEAST check it out. Your jaw will be on the floor. My journey following this young talent has a LONG road ahead! (Edited to add) If you didn't already know, she apparently does her OWN arrangements for all of her covers. That's why the Queen piece really floored me.
Scott, yes, you are correct. Angelina has been doing her own arrangements since age 8! If you haven't seen her "black & white" vintage-looking video where she is singing Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 1956 song "I Put a Spell on You" when she was 9 years & 2 months old, you should watch it ..... but prepare to be traumatized! She goes into full beast mode in that one, and it's an incredible sight and sound to witness! Lol! The band members in that video (who also do an amazing jazz job) affectionately referred to her as "The Boss," because she did her own arrangement and conferred with the conductor on what she humbly called her "wishes." You can see her making last minute changes on paper at the beginning of the video and the conductor smiling with acceptance as he reads them. @@nfpnone8248 Just been and done that - first time ever listening to Nina Simone, I did enjoy Nina's version, except for the end. I loved her phrasing of the song and her enunciation was beautiful. Angelina's version in both tempo and phrasing was totally different, and I liked the two very low notes she used when singing the word "good" at the beginning and end, and the amazing crescendo was to die for. It is pointless comparing the two performances because, as I have commented, they were so different. The only thing one can say with some assurance is that one performance was that of a 32-year-old woman and the other by a 10-year-old child.
I cannot take it away from Nina Simone that hers is the best recording of this wonderful song. Angelina's interpretation however is brilliant, and would rate as the best stage performance I have ever seen or heard, whether she was 10, 30 or 50. As we all know, incredibly, she was ten!!!!

Do you think it can be possible for any other Artist, to Learn from the Greats & Legends in the music history, to be as Great? As I personally continue to view this Outstanding Artistry of a youth who is musically sensitive, who has covered many genres learnt from past Musicians. For myself I don't think it's fair to compare Angelina Jordan to these Greats. The reason being, is she on par an equal & simply on the same playing field as Many of the Greats. The word Possible says it all...I'm possible. See for yourself as it's always good to make well informed choices. Would love to know how you got on?
