  • In Ecuador, the Condor Foundation has been working for more than five years to score as many Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus) as possible using radio transmitters to study their movements and locate breeding sites, and the most visited feeding sites of the territory. The latest results show that the majority of these important sites for this bird, emblem of the country, are located outside the protected areas by the Ecuadorian state. This leads to a rethinking of the distribution and coverage of the country's entire protected area system.
After visiting a team from the Zoo La Flêche from France, on the study area in 2018, a partnership agreement was put in place. The sending of new tele-transmitters will make it possible to mark new individuals and to continue with the tracking and the mapping of this species classified endangered species (ED) in the red list of the birds of Ecuador. According to the last national census, there are objectively fewer than 320 individuals in the country.
Come to discover the story of Flechita, the first juvenile condor marked in the nest in Ecuador thanks to the gesture of La Flêche zoo team.
