If we were a better sporting nation and could play football well after the 1960s we would've earned more international recognition quickly. Majority of the football fan culture in India is just supporting European clubs to make themselves look cool. Most of these people have never stepped foot on a field to play any sport let alone football,no wonder they all look overweight and older then their actual age as most of them are from a rich or privileged background.People who are genuinely into sport and have played football atleast at the University level and indulged in other sports even for a little bit as well can never talk bad about other sport or the sportspersons because they can understand different sports requires different skillset and also physical requirements. I think you are comparing wrong sports.Cricket is longer format game and football is shorter format game.Even shortest format of cricket is much time consuming than football.You can compare cricket with baseball or softball.Football can be compared with field hockey.In cricket ,you need timing ,temprament and power striking.Cricket rules are much complex than football rules.and in football,you need stamina , endurance and skills . And why football is much more famous because Its league structure is best in world .Cricket follows franchise cricket

Look at the number of off season international friendlies these European countries/clubs play in different parts of Asia and how many time they have come to play in India .Forget about playing with any of our Indian teams,they will not even play their off-season friendlies here. Majority of the football fan culture in India is just supporting European clubs to make themselves look cool. Most of these people have never stepped foot on a field to play any sport let alone football,no wonder they all look overweight and older then their actual age as most of them are from a rich or privileged background.People who are genuinely into sport and have played football atleast at the University level and indulged in other sports even for a little bit as well can never talk bad about other sport or the sportspersons because they can understand different sports requires different skillset and also physical requirements. Again the age old question of these football fans not able to name 5 players from the national team of their country,it was understable 15 years ago,but now there is a proper football league and even the national team is doing well as compared to a decade or so and there are amazing propects too coming from the grassroots level but these people would not only bash other sports but also wouldn't hesitate to speak ill about their own country's players and team without knowing them.
