- I took my Jeep Gladiator Rubicon to Tonto National Forest in Arizona. I was accompanied by a Chevy ZR2 (towing a No Boundaries camper) and a GMC Canyon ATA. We spend a week camping, exploring trails, and mountain biking. The mountain roads were fun to explore and the Jeep JT did a stellar job. My truck is on 35" Falken MT tires and AEV Pintler wheels with stock suspension. The truck exceeded my expectations and I was smiling the whole time (except for the two nights my Oztent tried to fly away).
berserkeroffro...
I have come back to this video several times because of purely the sarcastic/shade throwing voiceover. Keeps the listener on their toes. Great work!
I *love* the cinematic intro in this one! Great work, keep it up!
Dan, it's fantastic to hear from you! Thank you for stopping by and watching. Cheers!
Oh and it was good seeing a GMC out there too, great vid!.........G
That camping rack
For gladiator is sweet..
Instantly in love with this channel love your commentary please keep it going!
I'm impressed with both rigs but that water crossing was killer! Best flush out those diffs though, you must have been over the breathers man.........................G
Leave the trailer at the dealership where it belongs! Thank you for the comments at the end of the video about "overloading". I have been an off roading enthusiast for over 35 years. RUclips is full of inexperienced off roaders who bring too much crap with them! All their electronics just hinder. The cabs of their vehicles are packed to the gills with things they could have left at home. As I began to watch your video I thought to myself, "oh great, another overloaded group of rookies" but your comment at the end redeemed yourselves. Good job. I bring my young kids with me and have half the stuff you guys brought. That includes the junk that kids bring and collect on the trail (sticks and rocks)...lol.
Great video I'm over wanting a trailer now. I love my gladiator.
Solid video man! Just traded in my JK for a willys JT yesterday!!! Stoked to explore in this thing!
Thinking about doing the same thing. How much were you able to trade the JK for?
I bet that feels like you warped into the future! Jeep really stepped it up with the JL and JT. Where are you taking it first?
@@ShortyJenkans I got 26k for mine. 32k miles
@@Berserkeroffroad man the future has arrived! I live in Southern California, so Johnson valley desert trip then big bear! I’m loving it so far!
that was an awesome video man. One of the best
Well if I was ever on the fence about getting an offroad trailer, you just proved what I was fearing. I'll stick to my RTT setup.
I am a gladiator and I just purchased an Intech trailer. I also RTT. I think it good to have both if you can. I would have base camped the trailer on proven ground and RTT a few days (Going back to ensure base camp was secure of course). NoBo's are clearly not a true off-grid camper. A patriot trailer would have been great for this as well.
Excellent video!
I agree with you about the OVER this and that. You don't need all the OVER BS! Nice video.
Right on- thanks!
I love my JT, great video and excellent edit of video
Great video man, and great editing. If you ever get back to that water crossing, stick a few feet down river towards the rocks; it's much shallower. You can then take that trail north about 12 miles to Sheep Bridge. It's an awesome camping a recreation site and the east bank is a little less crowded.
Thank you for the tip! It was tricky even finding that crossing because so many areas were closed.
Very fun video, thanks for the commentary and video. Like the MTB and Overlanding aspect and will have to take a look myself.
To answer your closing question, I pack as if I am hiking. I have hiked and biked long before I was an overlander and have kept with that philosophy with the exception of food. I have learned to enjoy something a little better than reconstituted freeze-dried food or MRE's.
Love the content and truth to this video. Thank you sir
Thanks for being realistic about gear 💯. It's so easy to bring too much stuff. And yet all of the "accessories" are celebrated on social media.
I appreciate it. It's fun to throw an entire REI in the back of the rig, but then you lose sight if why you're there in the first place.
Gotta love those Arizona pinstripes 😂😂😂 @ 9:57
Finally an honest opinion. I've been telling folks about overloading with all these gear only to offend them. I'm not here to offend anyone. I just don't think its necessary to bring all that gear for what you or the individual plan on doing. Lots of marketing from sponsors. Will be looking into that road soon.
Did the mojave trail with our nobo. The spare ripped of from it's weld and hit our fender causing us to get a flat. I agree, the placement of the spare is crap!
Dang! But how what the Mojave on the trail? I imagine it was a dream to drive. On some trails I go a little quicker than I should and the resulting personal earthquakes makes me yearn for that Mojave suspension.
They did Mojave Trail not a trail in Mojave Jeep you goob 😝
@@Murametz1980 Dammit. Wishful thinking. I'll do better.
Looks like the camper needs a 4" lift, LOL. I really dont care about reducing my gear. I retired from the Army, I lived out of my rucksack for so long, I love being able to take anything I want to.
I am currently trying to figure out how to pipe in cold air from my portable AC to my roof top tent during the summer.
Great video, you have a new sub. I love how you do your videos.
Seemingly you've found the boundaries of your No-Bo. LOL
Good point about gear! I enjoyed the video.
Thank you. Years of "X item would make this next trip more comfortable" had lead to me defaulting to bringing too much stuff. I need to do a reset and see what's actually required.
Very true and awesome statements at the end. Thanks for confirming my opinion
And thank you for confirming mine!
I've downsized so much my camp mates are always like... "Dude, where's your stuff?"
Somehow, though, I usually have what they forgot, haha!
Ha! It's a balance for sure. You don't want to be the guy always asking to borrow stuff, either. On a recent trip I forgot my silverware and in a fit of stubbornness I ate my steak like a dog, not wanting to bother my friends for spares.
The JT is a beast on rough roads! Looked like a great time.
Sweet. Looks like a blast.
Holy shit I stumbled on to your vid and found it funny as hell.
Just subscribed
Heck yea, Thanks man! I find I'm more animated if I record my VO while drinking pre-workout before training.
Thanks for the Share!
Thanks for watching!
Nice to see another video! Good stuff man . Jeep wave from South Africa 👋🏽 🇿🇦
Hallo! Thanks for stopping by!
Cool video. Thanks for sharing!
Looks fun!
SPOD shelter would be my choice. Making camp ⛺️ separate allows night exploring possible. Phooey on the rack/roof tents! Setup is quick as well.
I've seen several people using them lately but I've yet to hear how they hold up over time. I like the idea though.
Nobo must have listened to your video because they don't put the tires there anymore
excellent choice of music at 14:00
Great video! What sport rack is that on your JT. Been looking for one that I can use a trifold with.
Man I wish you could do something with the removable spare tire to make more clearance...... this could have been solved with putting a bigger tire on the trailer or lifting the stock vehicles to meet your off road needs
The camper owner is raising the spare bracket so it's not a problem anymore.
@@Berserkeroffroad Any TV/ trailer has limitations compared to a the capability of a non-towing TV but some campers are way more capable than others. You guys simply found what those limitations were for the No.Bo and both of you are correct. He can choose to modify his TV and/or camper to go more places or accept those limitations and tow it only on the trails it works. Some people love RTTs and others hate them. To each their own. More importantly, awesome video!!!! Love that you guys went out and gave it a go. Now people that want to buy the No.Bo have a lot more info. BTW, I also own a Gladiator Rubicon...serious off-road vehicle! Gave up my wrangler JKUR because I needed more tow capacity. Sad day but very pleasantly surprised with how fun the Gladiator is. The other trucks in your video were nice, too. Just like overlanding with or without campers, there are a lot of great off-road trucks out there so people should buy what fits them best.
@@BigDaddyMuddzy this is the most level-headed comment I've seen on my videos in weeks. Thanks. And congratulations on the Gladiator- it's truly an amazing vehicle.
Tow vehicle is not a problem, not sure why that keeps getting mentioned 🤨 slight trimming on a flare and everything clears. NoBo does have a lot of boundaries (pun intended) which were touched on in this video! With that said, Forest River taunts 10 series No Boundaries (cute name right) as on offroad trailer... its not. Its a basic trailer with offroad looking tires, roofrack, cardboard bottom, paper thin c-channel frame etc… which im fine with, i knew what i bought when i bought it and i was fine with paying $12,200 for a brand new cute offroad’ish looking trailer as it is, ive had many many great nights in it! I use is just about every week.
Bigger tires on a trailer is not an option as it sits. Slide out kitchen/stove/pantry etc is at where its at and was designed for the height it sits at. Raising a trailer will make all those unusable, I’m 5’9” … its just not an option. One option I thought about is A frame suspension arms with airbags so i can lower it when its set up. But again… how much do i want throw into a mass produced crappy forest river product va just building my own from scratch.
I agreed with everything you said about social media...BUT, I hope I can prove you wrong about trailers. The No Bo is an ok trailer...I think you can see quickly the limitations you have with manufacturers that stick off road tires on it and sell it as "off road capable". I have a smaller camper trailer on order built and designed by guys that off road. I hope you can see the difference...I may not change your mind, but at least you will see the differences.
Hope to see you out there!
I'm aware of the wide availability of true off-road campers. I simply don't like having the liability of such a large piece of gear in tow. There's a lot riding on its reliability and I'm not one to chance it (yet).
I want to create a youtube channel helping overlanders simplify. I want to call it "Leave the Skottle at home". I think you should narrate it. We could make millions. Awesome vid by the way
Ha! I'm game. And thank you for the support.
Well I don't think you sold anyone on that trailer for sure LOL. I love the video, proves how capable the Gladiator really is compared to other midsized trucks.
Ha! The camper technically did what it was supposed to do, albeit begrudgingly. Bonus- towing it there he got as low as 9.5 mpgs. The Gladiator continues to surpass my expectations. I really thought it was going to be a sled on trails but I've been proven wrong again and again. It's simple, tough, and capable.
Great video. I have the same stock rig. Giving serious consideration to going with that AEV Pintler wheel based on your review. It also looks right with 35’s. May go with Nitto Trail Grapplers.
Thank you. I've been more than pleased with this setup. The Pintler wheels almost look like 15's which gives the impression the tires are larger than they are.
Just recently bought Pintlers for my JK after running stock wheels with spacers for many years since I could never decide what wheel I would like the most. Finally saw these and just had to have them. My stock Moab style wheels had some pretty nasty rock rash on them but so far these Pintlers have been keeping themselves away from the sharp ones a bit better.
Great 👍🏻 thanks
Nothing says America like taking a dump and watching jets
First thing I would do is to get rid of that ball coupler and hitch and put a Lock-N-Roll set up on the trailer and tow vehicle, or something similar, especially for when ya'll are running the rough trails with a trailer, and on a side note, If Ya Ain't Got No Arizona Pinstriping,Then Ya Ain't been Wheeling!!🤣🤣🤣😎👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Dude, thanks for the hitch tip. I'll check it out!
Ok I give up…. What are the rack brackets you have installed that work with your Bestop ez-roll??
They're custom-made, but any operation with a CNC and brake press can knock them out. All I had to do was trim the foam under the Bestop rails.
@@Berserkeroffroad Eureka! I am struggling to find some that move both out and high enough for my Ez Roll. Great idea.

That video has a closer view of them.
Jumping Cholla....I don't miss that stuff!
How was the 19 hour road trip in the Gladiator, how noisy are they really? Currently have an FJ and they are pretty noisy on the hwy and looking at selling and getting a Gladiator but it will be my daily as well as tourer.
It's not bad at all unless you have the soft top which rattles at highway speeds.
Awesome video! What is the name of this trail? I would love to check it out sometime. You are 💯 right about gear. Me and my girlfriend live out of my gladiator. 4 boxes that fit into the bed. A fridge and a roof tent. 2 boxes are hers 2 are mine. Simple and effective. Less time setting up more time enjoying the outdoors.
We explored FR 1530 and the basin SE of Horseshoe Reservoir. Tonto National Forest is massive. Looking at it on a map we saw a sliver of the area. What brand of cases do you use?
Just subbed loved the video editing style just one correction its a regular ZR2 not a bison heh.
Shhhhhh- don't tell the owner that. He said the only difference between the ZR2 and Bison is the Bison has steel bumpers (and worse approach angle). But thank you for catching my mistake, keeping me honest, and for deciding to sub!
he is being subtle! that was an intended jab at me for not springing for a Bison 😜
Great trail workout ..... I do the same resistance bands are the best cheap light and well resistant:) Cheers \_/ so frkn true about the OVERLOAD and not OVERLANDING .... so many channels just focus on the latest greatest $$$$$ of course form over function stuff ....Pack light enjoy your trip not the SWAG show .
I have to subscribe just to see what ridiculousness will happen next. Get the man a lift.
Didn't you watch it? I lifted twice! But seriously, thank you for deciding to stick around for my shenanigans.
So this is stock suspension and you just went up to 35’s over the 33’s? I’m seriously considering getting the Mojave. I really like the look of your setup.
Thanks! Yes, stock suspension with 35s. My wheels have the right backspacing to tuck the tires into the fenders when flexing. Some wheels don't allow for that. I love the Rubi and would only get a Mojave if I were spending a lot of time in dunes.
Wished I would have short sold No-Bo stock like alot in this passion looking cool is priority over DOING cool
Nice video. What camera setup are you using ?
My main camera is a Canon XF400. I also use a GoPro Max and a DJI Osmo Pocket. I have a drone but I'm not using it until I get my part 107 license.
Cool. I’m using a GoPro 7 black but might look in to the Cannon. I also have a mavic mini and that thing is awesome.
Would you happen to have a trail route map to share? I'd like to take my Gladiator there sometime!!!
This was on forest roads to the south of Horseshoe Reservoir. Check the forest service for the latest MVUM. There are frequent road closures because of fires and large groups without permits gathering and messing the place up.
@@Berserkeroffroad Yup found it, thanks so much!!!
I think 1 more inch of water and your intake woulda been toast lol. Nice cross
What were some of the issues with the RTT on the GMC?
no issues, just did not want to pack it up everyday to go explore so we left the GMC at base camp for entire trip.
Makes sense. I thought he said “a wreck the te tire week”
No trailer for me.
I'll stick with my RLD canopy, rooftop tent idea.
are you adding commentary or is it a computer speaking the words you typed? i legit cant decipher.
Great 👍😊👍!!!!!😁🤩😃
Forest River should think about placing the spare tire on the front of the NO🔥BO. 🙄
All the Overlanding expos & Sema would have you believe that a rock crawling setup with a roof top tent is the ideal. Overlanding has become over rated. Gear is nice to play with close to home but can be burdensome on the road. I was looking at towing an adventure trailer with my JTR....watching this vid has cured me of that notion.
A nimble utility trailer might be the way to go if you have a lot of gear. My beef on this trip was with my buddy's camper. Two years ago I went on a "rocklanding" trip and it was the worst of both worlds. I realized I needed a more robust suspension setup to handle the abuse. I also doubt people pay any attention to their payload. I had a JTR and I was surprised to discover the cargo area had less depth than a JK. I think Jeep moved the rear seats back a few inches, which took away from the available space.
@@Berserkeroffroad You are correct, people get gear hungry in overlanding and overload. You still need to keep the principles of backpacking....if you had to lug it on your back...would you take it. Instead of acquiring more overlanding gear I’m on a mission to see what the least amount of stuff I can get away with and still be comfortable on the road. I think I’ll get a trailer eventually for the regular camping trips. Great video and Great tips....appreciated. Happy &safe travels.
I recommend not sounding so robotic on your narration. Just talk to us and tell a story. Other than that great video
Thanks for the feedback. It's an evolving process.
"No Bo" 😆
What camera and settings do you normally use?
Right now it's a mix between manual and auto, depending on the situation, environment, and if I'm handing the camera off to someone else. I shoot as much as I can in manual mode so I control the exposure. It's tricky shooting a black truck against a bright sky and setting the exposure manually ensures I put emphasis on the right spot. Many of the shots were from a DJI Osmo Pocket and I left it on auto. Unfortunately the camera internally set an odd white balance that shifted the footage to red. I gave those shots a rough grade to pull back the red but they're nowhere near perfect. Lesson learned- I need to manually set that white balance next time. My primary camera is a Canon XF400. Since this trip I discovered it has a "Wide DR Gamma" setting that allows me to shoot in a pseudo-log format. It requires more post work but it give me more dynamic range. Thank you for asking!
@@Berserkeroffroad You did a great job with whatever video/pic challenges you faced. Have you ever tried a gopro mounted on a gimbal or did you go straight to the DJI Osmo Pocket?
@@BigDaddyMuddzy yep I used to have a GoPro on a gimbal. The stabilization on the GPH8 and 9 is stellar. I now use a GP360 with a suction mount on my truck (or magnet mount for under).
@@Berserkeroffroad thanks. I think it's time for me to upgrade since I'm still using the hero 5 haha
But other than that the videos was good and now I know the limitations before having to modifying
When I was your age I worked, that was my workout. You won’t live any longer with all that working out. You’ll just need joint replacement faster that everybody else
Great vid... can you tell me more about those crossbar brackets you're using with your bed cover? They look like a great solution.
those are Rhino rack cross bars mounted on experimental brackets.
Thanks. I'm working on a video detailing them. I wanted a removable and lightweight rack and so far they are the best I've come up with.
Have to say, I loved every minute of this video. We think very similarly. ETA- holy fuck that pinstriping. My nightmare. (I have same truck/color just Mojave version)
Thanks! It must be the common name.
And the pinstriping _mostly_ came out. Ironically, I put vinyl decals on my Jeep in places I commonly put a GoPro to project the paint.
🙌🏻
Thanks for stopping by, and for checking out my IG!
Ты крут чувак! Жаль что у нас не продают такую машину! Я про гладиатор.
Спасибо! Я счастлив иметь это.
The best thing I ever did was sell all my gear, way too much and buy light weight minimum gear, so much happier.
I pack for the trip I’m taking. If I’m going hunting, I like more comfort since I have to wake up so early and do so much every day. I bring my small camper and tons of gear. If I’m going camping, I bring a tent, table, usually my Colman stove and recovery gear since I’ve been known to be dumb on occasion. The amount of equipment these RUclipsrs bring is literally insane! Been doing the same thing since RUclips had 0-5 star ratings and nobody knew about “backwoods camping” besides the very few.
Great place to visit, and off road. Just sucks ass to live in the valley. Totally overrated place to live. I have lived there. Lol.
My grandparents live in Phoenix and they said something like 1,000 people a day are moving there from California.
Some guys just can't leave peckers out of their videos.
Do tell us how tiny yours is
That water at the beginning was deep. Looked close to the air intake area. Also, cut down on the egg yokes. Bad part of the egg, nutrition wise.
Egg yokes are often cited as unhealthy because of their cholesterol. They're high in HDL cholesterol which recent studies show isn't harmful. Anecdotally, for over a decade I've eaten 12-18 eggs a day. Combined with my active lifestyle, my cholesterol levels are close to perfect.
