Hes objectively correct, I know it might seem crazy from a casuals perspective but when you exclusively excell at one aspect of the fight game but are subpar in all other areas you are a LIMITED fighter, Alex is a limited fighter. Hes a monster kickboxer but that's absolutely it, and he cannot compete with world class MMA fighter unless he refines these areas of his game, sooner or later hes going to face a grappler and he best be ready for it, he just hasnt faced one in the UFC yet, he exclusively fights other strikers who dont have as refined kickboxing.

All fighters have some form of overconfidence that translates differently... just a dude who believes he needs to win a championship. His past failures probably haunt him and he is trying to manifest his outcome verbally. It's quite popular among fighters to try and manifest. He seems like a great guy too. I bet Bisping had the same sentiment within the MMA community when he made his late push. We all out here trying to make it.

Tbf to Smith, he got rocked badly by Glover before getting smashed on the ground. Straight up grappling, they were competitive in an invitational grappling match, which clearly means Smith is levels above Alex in just grappling. I just don't think Smith has the wrestling to take Alex down before getting KOed himself.
