Foam board planes are very simple to build by hand with out plans to trace just some simple folds and big enough wing with dihedral and big enough vertical and horizontal stabs is the biggest thing cause if it's to small it's not gonna fly well
Isn't it amazing how some of the most important things constantly get overlooked or underestimated, but retailers will have you believe that failure is the only road to success. So if you crash your RC plane, it's not because nobody told you about center of gravity or nothing. Just keep buying our planes at $300 a pop. You'll eventually get one that flies itself. 😅
I like the 30 minute build anyone can do.👍 Most RUclipsrs spend 40 hours making a design, CNC cutting components from carbon fiber, installing 3-D printed parts, and doing all sorts of crazy electronic control systems and data recorders. I like this project because I could do it this weekend if I wanted to. It might even take me three hours.
Wow it flew so so well!! Can you make a video for complete beginners, where you explain measurements or sizing, materials and where to get them, and how the electronics operate etc?
There is a guy that explains a lot of rc basics. Just search KendinYap, lots of beginner tutorials on there that have measurements. Keep in mind it will take longer to build those models
This is exactly how I been making mine for years even a few years before flite test existed. I was making foam board rc planes when I was 10 in 2002. Now it's easier because we have access to really cheap smaller lighter electronics and motors . Building a plane when I was 10 consisted of balsa and plans back in 2002 cuse foam planes was junk and not to great like we have now in arf abd rtf planes. So of you wanted a good sturdy abd great flying trainer back then we had to build them with balsa then get someone on a buddy box to teach you to fly cuse all this gyro stuff abd stabilizers didn't exist so only way to learn was either buddy box with a 40 to 50 inch wingspan trainer plane or learn on your own abd crash and spend another month building another plane. I'm 30 years old now and love being g able to build a quick trainer plane in matter of a hour or two or all the balsa arfs thats out now and all the beautiful amazing foam scale looking planes that's out now is amazing. Cost of learning to fly is about a quarter of what it use to cost when I was learning in 02 at age of ten. Dad bought ne 5 trainer balsa kits abd we built all of them except one abd after I crashed the third one I was able to fly on my own with no problems. And no my dad was not a rc plane pilot when I was learning we learned together. I still fly way better then he does. But he is really good at building and has 52 balsa planes built abd ready to fly hanging on walls and ceilings of our climate controlled work shop om his back yard that is the size of a 5 car shop. Abd still building he us. He has built every balsa kit off of bang good and I have flown all of then atleasy once and they all fly perfect like they are on rails. They are laser cut no plans to build onto of cuse they jig together tightly then then you glue it. The instructions suck but not to hard to figure out andnqorth it cuse theybfly nicely
Thats exactly what I did. 2 sheets of foamboard ($2 a pop) hot glue and cellophane tape. Its sure beats the crap out paying $100 for a piece of shit only to crash it 20 minutes later. I made dozens of them. I should make a video too. Good video 👍
Balsa is alot more durable than one who never built on would think, even good flying ones will occasionally hit hard, and surprisingly it takes a REALLY hard hit to damage them. Balsa is weak, but once constructed and covered, its pretty strong and very rewarding once done. I reccommend it for any airplane enthusiast.
Once you discover how easy it is to make dozens of wing ribs with a singular template, 2 bolts and piece of balsa with a wood router, you can start mass-producing good balsa airplanes in hours :) Just use right materials and right techniques
My first plane was a control line cox ju87d stuka. All plastic nitro model. Next was a Big Otto Balsa kit. And a little satan control line balsa kit. I crashed all of them.
I bought a real expensive RC plane 8 years ago - Piper Cub as I always wanted a RC plane but could never afford one. I DO NOT want to fly that one as I have never flown a RC plane. So this could be a great way to learn - if you crash it within 10 seconds no loss at all. BTW I am 67.... time to start working on that (cheap) bucket list....
well, ive wanted to build an rc plane since i was 13 watching FliteTest. 11 years later I finally ordered the parts to make my first one thanks to this video
If you can find a cheap 4 channel plane for $20 go for it, but building one out of foam board is going to be even cheaper and gives you the flexibility to make any repairs or modifications you need just by cutting out a new piece of foam

What adapter do you recommend? Do you have a link for it? Also, the battery is out of stock currently. Any other battery recommendations? Thanks!
I looked it up, it means the battery he recommends has a deans connection (shape of the prongs for the plug), while the linked ESC (speed controller) is comes with a XT60 connector (The female side of a different shaped plug). You can actually just buy a battery that already has an XT connector and save your self from getting the adapter. Im new to airplane building i just built this type a plane but the every time i try to fly it tipps forward and hit the ground really hard and so i wanted to ask you how i can find the center of balance
I can't figure out why none of my rc planes fly. They are all light (made of foam board about 350g with batt), have a 700g of thrust motor (8060 prop), have large control surfaces and wing spans, yet they all take off, fly about 8-12 mph and have no control (rolling or vertical). I can even see the control surfaces working well with my controller during a "flight." Any ideas?????
Im gonna be making a Batwing for Batfrog aka Kermit so... Tryna find out the power to withstand kermit and the planes weight currently, got the design and the placements for the propellers but getting there.

Im new to airplane building i just built this type a plane but the every time i try to fly it tipps forward and hit the ground really hard and so i wanted to ask you how i can find the center of balance
Can I ask how much weight can this plane handle?
Probably about 10lbs. As long as you keep the center of gravity the same.
What are all the parts needed for this, and I do not have a 3d printer
can u pls tell me the weight, i want to know if mines is too heavy. Thanks!
What type of foam are you using?
I can't figure out why none of my rc planes fly. They are all light (made of foam board about 350g with batt), have a 700g of thrust motor (8060 prop), have large control surfaces and wing spans, yet they all take off, fly about 8-12 mph and have no control (rolling or vertical). I can even see the control surfaces working well with my controller during a "flight." Any ideas?????
Send me a picture to ericrobb4@gmail.com and I might be able to help more. Have a great day!
Wow that was amazing but please can you say all the materials need to build it.
There are links in the description for the electronics. The foam is Adams rediboard from Dollar Tree or Dollar General its 20" by 30" by 1/4" thick
Two control surfaces?
Yeah. It’s a three channel airplane. Rudder, Elevator, and Throttle.
goota love it
Great video, but shy not show the motorpod build? :)
can a 4 channel flight controller be used??
Yes. You only need three channels for this plane. Have a great day!
@@EricRobb thank you so much
jesus loves you❤
Jesus loves you too! Thanks for watching. Have a great day!
Im gonna be making a Batwing for Batfrog aka Kermit so...
Tryna find out the power to withstand kermit and the planes weight currently, got the design and the placements for the propellers but getting there.
what motor, battery, reciever, and servos were you using? been flying for a while but want to build my first plane and thought this would be a good start.
Everything is in the video description. Let me know if anything is missing. Have a great day!
@@EricRobb I don't see any of it

Sorry but may I have an explanation of the circuitry and what goes to what?
Yeah for sure! Check out this video I made about the electronics: RC Plane Electronics 101: A Beginner's Guide to Wiring and Connections
ruclips.net/video/JA3Lvf301mM/видео.html
How much did that cost you with all the electronics
About $100. Links are in the video description. Have a great day!
Im also your 850th sub! :)
That's Awesome!! Thanks for the Support!
cool
Thanks!
Which type of form u have used and how much kv motor? Is the plane dimensions avilable?
Its 5mm foam board from Dollar tree/Dollar general. The motor is a 2830 1200kv brushless outrunner, but it's way overpowered for the size of this airplane. The sheets of faom used are 20x30"
@@EricRobb hey! A 20×30 sheet is THAT BIG? Jeez i was seriously underestimating it... im making a P51 Mustang (my first plane honestly), using a 2212 1400kv motor as thats the most affordable atm- also, it has 1kg thrust with a 1045 prop, so I guess thats fine... I want my mustang to have a 1m wingspan... I hope it goes well lol- using a FlySky fsi6 tx rx... your video was actually very informative and I sure will use your methods to make airfoil and stuff...! Keep up the good work!!!
@@ComradeCody3349 Thanks for your kind words. Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great Day!
@@EricRobb hey! Thanks! I just ordered 30"×20" foam sheets from amazon! Well, I found put two of my 6 servos are not working and I can't get them replaced either... so I gotta cancel my plan of making a mustang and I'll just make a piper cub or something... My servos were greasy when I opened the package... do you have any idea how I can fix them? I can't afford to buy new ones...
@@ComradeCody3349 @Cody M Can you describe a bit better "Not working" Do you think a gear inside is broken, or is there something wrong this the electronics? Is the motor inside spinning? Hope I can help.
Hi, Where do you buy stuff like the engine and controller
Check out the links in the video description. Let me know if you cannot find something or have any other questions. Have a great day!
@@EricRobb Ahh thanks, I live in europe so i might just ask in my local rc store 10min away:)
Great Idea!!
I wanted a rc airplane since i was 7 and im 12 and i still wish i had one
