My worst early game mistake was not being able to buying a house in 2008 as a kid. Glad you mentioned a beacon though, i left for atrox while being too lazy to build a hydrazine thruster or bring a beacon. ate through my entire 8 solid thruster reserve trying to find my original landing zone again
1 MASSIVE mistake of this vid is not saying to search debris for "bad" medium solars and wind turbines. They're bad when you make them, but finding them is another thing. You get something for free and it's good. Nobody would reject that free power is good.
Interesting. As you say, there's lots of ways of playing the game. I don't necessarily agree with some of those points, at least I wouldn't call them mistakes, more like preferences. Number 1: as you say it's a power drain to research the large items. However early on you can have them run on a separate power network with solar/wind, and it doesn't matter if it is slow or if it stops at times, as long as it keeps generating some bytes. Small samples don't give much on Sylva, so imho at the start it's just easier to grab a few rocks from nearby and chuck them into the research chamber. The key point though is that you don't need to have the chamber running all the time, and if you need extra bytes you can also analyze some small samples or even resources. Number 3: this relies on luck. So yes, use the generator if you find it. But I wouldn't go out of my way to search for one. Especially given #2 (leaving the planet asap) should be my objective. Also, this tip applies to other items, there's often useful stuff in wreckages and debris, always keep an eye out. Number 5: I absolutely agree here, just want to point out, rewards are not just bytes, there's several useful items early on, and also many QT-RTGs (free power!)... there's so many reasons to do missions! Number 8: I'm of a different school here. Especially early on there's not much room in the shuttle, so I would bring only what I don't have in the new planet, and get all the resources I can locally. However, yes, a couple of aluminum ingots are great for a soil centrifuge and a landing pad. It might take more time but it's also fun. To add to number 10, I always build my bases next to a gateway, so beacons aren't a must, because usually you can tell by the different shape of the landing area when using a landing pad, and from seeing the gateway. A colored beacon or a small shelter is however useful to spot the site even quicker. As said, gateways are visible from orbit so landing the closest as possible and then dragging the shuttle along is a good idea. Why building near the gateway? Just for convenience, you have to eventually unlock at least one of those per planet, and it saves travel time if you want to teleport to/from the core or another planet. Note: this is not a critique, I'm just sharing my personal experience and my preferred way of playing the game - I appreciate your content so keep doing what you do :)
Also small wind and solar is definitely more efficient and bang for your buck, and density of power popping them all on a silo..but making the XL is rad as hell having a row of em later on, and gives you better feeling of progression
Adding on to the first tip: you can also put research samples in the research chamber. If you take them out before they finish researching you'll still be able to normally scan them for the same amount you usually would get.
If your watching this in 2024 heres a quick early-mid game tip you can use tappers to automate organic just place the tapper on a plant but sylva has worst tapper rates and atrox has the best
Yes, it’s a lot faster to just grab multiple more resources than what you need in the moment, but I usually spare the source to have an auto extractor set up, since you get way more, plus doesn’t destroy the ground. The soil centrifuge I get since it gives you materials that may be difficult to find, but I’d solve the issue once again with auto extractors since I can just get a lot and mark the spot. The soil centrifuge I’d say is pretty useful for them, until then, though.
I think the biggest early game mistake is not automating power production first items I unlock are tapper and autoarm. By the first 20 min of game play I have 5 small generators a smelter and 3 research chamber powered by tappers with an auto arm. Tappers power the generators. left over organic goes to smelting and the carbon goes to research, setting me up with a fully automated power and research generation. And as my base expands I just add more generators and tappers. Eventually I replace smelting with mini smelters and gens with medium gens
The beacon is also good for a major big in the game. Most players end up losing vehicles, and this is because they fall through the ground for some reason. If you have a beacon attached, this will help to find the vehicle. Especially the ones that require exo chips
I prefer the small solar and wind generators because of the space requirements. (8) small solar produces 8 units, the Medium solar only produces 4 units in the same footprint. I also think the small units will track the sun longer providing power longer then the medium. Even in end game I don't feel like the larger units are worth the cost and room they take up. However I will use them for remote Auto-extractor farm just because it is easier to pack up and move around when the resources dry up. Usually I make 2 RTGs and forget it. comeback days later and have 400 canister full, all ready smelted and ready to use.
you can actually use popcoral to farm research items, though i guess your right about the item vs. sample thing because i just have a ton research items lying around taking up space
bro.. you dont wanna know.. but the research samples on glacio mantle layer give 850 to 1000 bytes a pop. so make a byte-run there after making a drill and digging down there with a medium or large rover.. its so so good, and any research resourses you find down near the core give 11500 to 12000 bytes. and take a while to research, plus the added bonus of easy acess to astronium. the mantle of glacio is really nice and clean (well the one layer above core itself i mean)
So if you use a packager on a partially used thruster, it will fully reset its damage. So I always keep a packager on me early game until I get the better thruster.
I make Like 1000 Bytes/10min in the early Game soooooo..... Yeah, I Just waste my bytes on stuff that seems cool, but it reqires resources from other planets
Instead of just slowing down to normal speed the gun will stop if you run out of power, if you need to use it you can press F to turn off the mods (and his only works while you have power though) or you can pull them off and put them on your back
Yeah the generator is nice tip, but its dependent on RNG. On my current run sure I've found a bunch of them...but none were functional. It's great if you can find one that works but its just a matter of luck.
i just started playing last month, in my main world i dont have a problem with power as a large wrecked solar panel id just 8 extenders from my main base.
Even if you don’t bring a beacon I’m not sure but I think quarts are found on all planets and beacons can be made from your backpack so your not cooked if you forgor☠️ to bring one
Pack your research items. Makes carrying and organizing them much less of a pain. Don't centrifuge graphite tho, mining it is much more efficient and the stuff has barely any uses other than packagers so pack away.
Honestly, I don't know by what logic the early game is determined, but according to it, it lasts me only 5 minutes. Problems with bytes? Bytes in my opinion, this is generally some kind of joke... In the first hour or two of the game, you can unlock everything. Except for the quest schemes.
using generators is stupid, even in early game phase, a pair of easily findable solar panels and wind turbine along with some batteries willl make you now have to worry about power at all anymore
i wish we could turn off the missions. they should be new player experience type of thing as a tutorial. i think it makes the game way too easy at the start.
How do you improve like that your graphics, I’m playing astroneer from Microsoft store in pc, all in ultra and I don’t have for example that reflections in my backpack
I'm not sure what you mean by reflections, but the reflections on my character are because I have a gold skin on my character which makes it reflective.
The wide and boost are actually pretty insane. They're barely worse than the truck and drill. The main thing that makes the truck and drill better is the storage capacity of it.

Using a gateway has always been my form of a beacon.
Also small wind and solar is definitely more efficient and bang for your buck, and density of power popping them all on a silo..but making the XL is rad as hell having a row of em later on, and gives you better feeling of progression
Well, if you have a huge row of large silos, each with medium silos, and fill all them up with small solar or wind, that’s pretty cool.
If you build soil centerfuge at the base where you land, you could easily get quartz after 20 minutes collecting soil easy beacons
