Finally! Thanks! Searching a performance of this vast masterwork since ages. Besides chamber music and piano works sole sacred work from Elsner I found was a Mass in G (also beautiful). Happy Easter!!!
@@Reciclassicat Yes - it has been (!); this lovely piece, + from elsewhere on YT Ernst Pepping 'Passionsgericht des Matthaus', & Gustav Schreck 'Christus, der Auferstandene'. Beats a chocolate egg, that's for sure !
I just have searched for the Mass in G: ruclips.net/video/RvcqrK18Jnw/видео.html Beatifull! But there were no comments at all and also almost no visitors! Please go there, for solidarity, and write something! 😀
Excellent Polish Passion music by an underrated composer. Pleasantly harks back to the Baroque tradition as does much other Polish vocal music written in the same period (I just love the piano in the continuo). Thank you for uploading. I don't have it in my collection.
Well, some Polish composers of the era were quite innovative. I mention a certain Chopin... But of course, Elsner was of an entirely different generation and probably less inclined to write cutting-edge music.
Thank you so much for posting this! I was so heartbroken when the only other upload on youtube was taken down... I even feared I may never hear it again ;_; I have many great memories with this piece, having sung it in 2018. Once again, thank you!
Abrazo!
Reminds me of Antonio Casimir Cartellieri ("Gioas, Re di Giuda"1795.), Georg Anton Benda. Common to Bethoven and Cartellieri? Salijer teaching young musicians, and among his pupils in composition - were Ludwig van Beethoven, Antonio Casimir Cartellieri - Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert and many other. Salieri then stopped writing operas. Salijeri: "From that period (circa 1800) I realized that musical taste was gradually changing in a manner completely contrary to that of my own times. Eccentricity and confusion of genres replaced reasoned and masterful simplicity."
Some parts of this are truly terrific. Many parts in fact. Of course it was composed 35 years "too late", but hey, a vintage masterpiece is still a masterpiece!
I really doubt it was composed "too late". Elsner was born 1769, Beethoven 1770. Beethoven died 1827 in His only 57 yr much too early compared e.g. with Haydn. Professor Elsner had lived 85 yrs what seems more natural. Passion was finished ten years after passing Beethoven by mature and musically very experienced man. There are some congenial passages in this oratorio which IMHO wouldn't had been ever written by great Ludwig. Old masters have their incomparable own style and this watermark is timeless.
buenas.

It deserves, right? 😀 Elsner masterwork!
What a quality piece of music!

It's almost Easter and here I happened to stumble upon this work while eating a chocolate egg.

Clara influência sinfônica de Beethoven. Noutros momentos lembra Mendelsshon.

To correct a little typographic error in the description - the penultimate aria begins at 1:44:11, while the finale starts at 1:48:04
Fixed! Thanks!! 😀
