Even though I can out-perform most of the younger people on the force and definitely most of the older guard, I'm disqualified because I'm too old for the PD.
Age limits are a surefire way to not get the people with the most life experience.

You can apply for the Sheriff's Department. I know the age limit is past 35 y.o.
