After receiving words from Stacker about the final mission's plan, Mako guides Raleigh to the Jaeger he'll be piloting for this mission. Raleigh, entering the Jaeger Factory, was shocked to see a Jaeger none other than his own and beloved, Gypsy Danger. He never thought he'll see his beloved girl again. Gypsy Danger of course. Relief to see Gypsy receiving a new left arm and some metal alloy replacement on the left shoulder.
And also the completely renovated conn-pod (cockpit) inside Gypsy's head. And the huge hole in Gypsy's head is also replaced with new metal alloys and materials on the Jaeger's visor as well.
All damaged sustained from the battle in Anchorage 2020's incident has been completely renewed. Gypsy Danger is the only Mark-3 Jaeger to ever be installed with the Mark-5's technology systems except it's power core which has been doubled. Solid iron hulls with no alloys. Retractable chained swords that somehow, they didn't inform Raleigh about it. All these upgrades has made Gypsy officially the only Jaeger ever to be so much different from other Jaegers as it's a middle-classed Jaeger with the overpowered systems of the recent high-classed Jaeger.
But due to it's weight and just like other Jaegers, Gypsy still maneuvers quite slow. But it's attacks and defenses exceeded it's limits. Making it more powerful. Hopefully winning the final mission. After Mako shows Raleigh to his new Jaeger and meeting Tendo Choi, the chief technician, after five years.
Raleigh is then guided to his empty pilot quarters' room. Raleigh then made a conversation with Mako. As to know what it is that she does around here. Then went to ask if she's a Jaeger pilot, Mako says no as her current position is one of the high-ranked technician next to Tendo. As she earned it through being Stacker's adoptive daughter. Mako has also made a record of 51 drops and kills during her simulator score.
But Raleigh hasn't know it yet as Stacker is restricting her from fighting in an actual combat out on the ocean or city with a real Kaiju. But even if she could do that, Stacker holds her back because he doesn't want her to remember a tragedy to happen to her years ago as a young child. Mako just covers this reason as to tell Raleigh that Stacker has his reasons.
Mako then wishes that Raleigh will be able to accept the candidates she had picked for Raleigh to pilot with in Gypsy. She had studied his fighting technics and strategies including his previous one in Anchorage, Alaska. Due to his let down in the Jaeger Program, Mako believes that Raleigh deviates from standard procedures during combat not being able to risk things correctly.
Raleigh, having a needle to sting him, is shocked by Mako's opinion. Raleigh disagrees as he believes that when it comes to fighting an actual Kaiju, the feel of being a simulator is somewhat different from an actual fight out on the city or in the ocean. That in a real fight against these Kaijus would make risks to have a control of it's own and we can't do anything to prevent it.
As to just continue suffering through the consequences that these battles have to offer. Which is exactly what Raleigh has to do after he lost his close brother, Yancy. Mako, accepting his advice, heads back to her room in front of his room. Mako, thinking of a will to pilot Gypsy with him as to exact revenge on the Kaijus as to what they did to her family.
She turns around and witnessed Raleigh being topless as he settles down in his room, have a rug to clear his face up. Raleigh however spots Mako just standing there looking at him. Being magnetized, as she noticed Raleigh looked back and she quickly closes her door and looking through a peak hole in the door instead.

This movie to me still has one of the best depictions of soul mates in a non-romantic or sensual way. At least to me, Drift compatibility in this movie indicates soul mates. In this scene, their shared admiration and awe of Gypsy drives home the point of compatibility. In a way, Gypsy being Analog, makes this even more awesome as it represents the idea of unpredictability which can be an advantage or disadvantage.
I agree with you on most of it. But with the drift capability there are different relationships.
Raleigh (main character) and his brother (Yancy Becket, died at beginning) were drift compatible. There were also the three triplet brothers who piloted Crimson Typhoon.
But by far the most common drift compatibility is being soul mates. And I think it works the best because look at how amazing Gipsy is with these two lovers piloting her.
Yep, the stronger the bond the longer/the stronger the drift compatability. Sasha and Aleksis' drift lasted around 18 hours, and none, I mean NONE of the other Jaeger pilots even came close to that.

@@nikkib.8476 I thought the same exact thing. And at the end on the escape pod raft thing, even though they don't kiss, you know what they both feel. The whole time I was waiting for them to kiss (which yes would have been cliche but it's kinda deserved at that point) so when they didn't, I was actually suprised. They just romantically embraced each other, which is far more romantic than just making out and making a cheesy scene out of it.
Agreed, though it was hard not to read into the "romantic" version of things throughout the movie, since it's such a trope. There seems like a lot of sexual tension there, makes it difficult to think along the lines of soulmate/drift compatibility.

I didn’t like Mako’s cold honesty, in wartime, you can’t just follow combat regulations, you have to become unpredictable to survive against enemies, do what you can for your team, but following the rules isn’t always right or possible
The moments with him getting back and meeting his old friends always warms my heart
Of course. He’s a part of her, there’s a fondness he just could never shake. I bet even after he lost his brother and stopped piloting he thought of her every single day. At least going back to the base getting back in the game with so many new faces, he gets set back up with a familiar face. I love Gipsy❤️.
I love the reverence placed on Gypsy Danger in this movie. Sure, she’s not the prettiest or the strongest or the fastest, but she is durable and adaptable. Gypsy survived in an occupation where Jeagers and their pilots were getting taken out faster than they were being built/trained, and when on to defeat Kaijus that 3 whole Jaegers couldn’t defeat AND save the world. IMO, Gypsy Danger represented humanity as a whole: Strong, resilient, and hard as shit to kill.
I don't understand why some people doesn't like Danger's design. It's pretty impressive and realistic if you asked me.
I liked all the Jaeger designs in this movie. The brutal looking Cherno Alpha, the elegance of Crimson Typhoon, the sleek Striker Eureka and the no nonsense Gypsy Danger

(it doesn't weigh 3000 tons) has systems accompanied by things that allow the jeager to move accompanied by multiple impulse systems, the reason why it can jump is not because it breaks the physics but because the force it exerts against pressure allows it to move in such a way even if it was really heavy, some tanks weighing almost a ton work in a similar way , it's full of engines that move it

From this exact moment in the film onward I was imagining the mecha collapsing like soft butter with every single step it took in this movie.
ik right there's no way in hell her hull is solid iron unless they mean the plating while the frame is most likely some type of steel which would explain how her armor gets torn up so easily compared to the others like churno or striker

It’s a serious film, serious in the sense that it stresses just how much humanity has to work together if we each want to see the sunrise.

If u pay close attention to little signs in this scene u can see this when Mako was developing a crush on Raleigh, At 0:44 and 1:04 u see how she gives a similar stare at Raleigh, she gives it because she sees how passionate Raleigh is and lemme tell u something, girls digs passionate dudes. Second sign is that gesture she gives at 1:40, like she's saying to her self "wow he actually has an interest in me". Third sigh is when after she gives her brutal honest opinion about Raleigh not being the right man for the job, look at her face at 2:15, she's like "o shit I hope didn't offend him" When people accidently offend their crush the tend to express their lowkey freak out with their facial expressions and Mako nailed it, and the sign screaming obvious was when she was staring at Raleigh shirtless and the shy gesture she was making after Raleigh closed the door when she looking through her peep hole. That gesture screams a million words.

The one thing that kept him out the program, being unpredictable, is the very thing that made him an asset, dare I say a godsend against Leatherback and Otachi, him throwing away the book is what allowed him to stay above the edge that those two Kaiju had been given, the edge they had been given to specifically trash Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon
that and when the precursors got info on the others from newt he never knew 1 gypsy would be took out of retirement before the drop and 2 mako was the one who was in charge of gypsy's rebuild meaning newt would have known next to nothing about how she was upgraded and 3 nothing of Reilly's unpredictable fight style as he had no "special moves" like the others him and mako just went with the flow during the fight leading them to get the edge no pun intended

Acid to bring down Cherno's hull to allow access to both its reactor and conn-pod. A tail specifically designed to dig out Crimson's conn-pod in a kaiju meant to counter its speed and maneuverability. An EMP to take out Eureka's digital systems.
This is why I love Pacific Rim The Black so much with Atlas Destroyer. Atlas was a Mark 3 and was really heavy. The run to Sydney base they had to switch off due to exhaustion. Atlas felt grounded even when using the saber chain to hookshot across the ground, it was straining and sparking from the sheer weight.
Imagine getting back into the cockpit in which you experienced the death of your brother from his point of view.

They were probably referring about how he was still linked with his brother as he died, which may have placed a great amount of stress on his mind from experiencing how a person dies on top of having to finish the fight alone against the kaiju and then having to navigate the Jaeger all the way to Alaska. Being inside the Jaeger may have caused relapses that would have affected whoever was helping pilot the Jaeger and may even send them into shock over experiencing dying without dying

They didnt just upgrade the core, I'm pretty sure they also upgraded the hydraulics for faster movement
she wants revenge against the Kaiju because the Category 2 Onibaba(the one in her Flashback) killed her family but Stacker Pentecost piloting Coyote Tango(the Jaegar he had to pilot on his own) killed him so she can't actually have revenge

Love that when she first looks surprised and stares at Raleigh at 2:41 you are lead to think that she's ogling his muscles, but then you realize with that shift in the camera at 2:53 that she's staring at the scars left behind on his skin from the suit burning him at the beginning of the movie. I friggin love that they did not go in a predictable, Hollywood direction of forcing these two to become romantic partners. They are colleagues, they are friends, and that is good enough.

vin 950 alloys are good because they can bend without breaking, that’s why they are invaluable in constructing all the things you mentioned, in swords, alloys allow them to withstand massive battlefield stress and come back for more. In ships and other naval vehicles, alloys are just as essential due to the constant expansion and contraction they experience, as well as the massive strain that is put on the hull the moment it is in the water, especially on essential components of the hull such as the keel. In tanks, the same is true, due to the stress they experience in battle, everything from driving to taking hits. However, while this ability, as shown, is essential in constructing in all the things you mentioned, it would be a handicap with a Jaeger. Imagine if the feet or legs of the Jaeger were made out of alloy, something that bends easily. With that much weight on it, it would be bending constantly. No, you would need something firm, solid, to bear the weight and stay structurally stable at the same time. That’s why I imagine they make hem out of non-alloy metals.

Honestly, it would be awesome to get a spin-off that’s just the MK1s wrecking shop. We could get more Cherno, Brawler, Romeo, and Coyote chalking up wins in the first years of the war, along with the development of the Jeager program, and tons of new Kaiju.

Alonzo Branson no it's a scar he got when Knifehead tore off Gipsy's left arm five years prior.
I was told the scars come from overloading the circuitry in the inner suit. There is an deleted scene where Pentecost had his own burns similar to Religh's.

Why do they talk about "no alloys" like it's a good thing? I've read that alloys and impuites in metal make it stronger.
Rule of cool. Sounds impressive and pure to a normal audience member.
Depends on the content of those alloys. When creating alloys you may have a better metal overall for whatever you're using it for, but at the cost of a pure metal's characteristics. For example, Tungsten has the highest melting point of any metal, but when you combine it with other metals/impurities that melting point decreases somewhat.
As for the movie, maybe the alloys made Gypsy lightweight at the cost of durability and using pure metals makes her heavier, but able to take more of a beating without failing.

It's tradition to use female pronouns for seagoing vessels, which Jaegers are. Gipsy is called a she, therefore it is a she. Whether she has masculine features and was inspired by John Wayne (along with WWII tankers and such) is besides the point.

This Jaeger honestly doesn't look like a girl really so I'm kinda confused.

Movies and shows like this that don't care for physics much can do whatever they want.. because robot. Also, I heard it was a Tetsujin reference. Also also, if you read A Midsummer Night's Dream (My Little Pony/Pacific Rim crossover. I know what it sounds like, but it's good.) on Fimfiction, there is an explanation there. Maybe it isn't a good idea in the real world, but something that was partly inspired by a show where a giant robot can disintegrate multiple mechanical monster things with a simple chest blast and make its fists fly through the air is not meant to be taken this seriously.

Because the Kaiju evolve to meet the effectiveness of defenses.
The main reason they give is that Kaiju blood (called 'Kaiju Blue') is extremely toxic and using conventional explosives or even nukes only ends up spreading it around. I believe some of the supplementary materials mention that the area in California/Nevada where they killed the first Kaiju is still uninhabitable even 20 years later.
Lobster with Mustard and Rice Plus you can't just nuke every Kaiju that pops out of the rift. At once per week you'd be up to your gills in fallout.
