The one that helped me was “get your flipping foot off the board as fast as you can” and one I thought of is imagine the board is flipping under your back foot and you’ll instinctively keep more weight on the front which will keep all four wheels on the ground
Closer to the edge of your board the faster it's going to flip. So if your consistently under rotating or over rotating you can adjust because we're all different. Second move with your board. Kickflips have a nasty habit of not staying directly beneath your feet so you need to move with it.
to sum it up, she needs to keep it up what shes doing by practicing more ollies and making sure she has proper foot positioning. and then after shes more comfortable with her ollies. take her kickflip attempts to the grass/ somewhere to hold her self up to get the feel of landing on top of the board
Definitely would add don't kick/flick down. Even after watching Aaron's vid, she was still trying to kick down instead of flicking off the nose. It feels like one of those things in which a non/new skater might not really see the difference. Good luck to her though! Maybe she'll land one before I do, haha! I've only been trying for a year, but, whatever, I'll get it any day now, haha!
DUDE u are a legend and this video was SOOO GOOD. As an avid skater and a maya viewer its super sick and nice to have you do this for her! Big props my guy you ROCK!!!!
AYO, wholesome video. That's sick. I love the dedication to teaching someone this so judgement free, when I was younger that wasn't the case. It's great to see this change of pace in the scene. Thank you for trying to be that change for those that need it.
good stuff. also worth mentioning that aside from being difficult, the platforms are also potentially dangerous making it easier to roll your ankle. i was watching your stream, it was good to see how positive and encouraging everyone was. she seems cool and does good work with animals.
I love how you finally started looking directly into the lens of the camera! It's a much better experience for us as viewers and we can connect with you a lot deeper, rather than when you look over the top of it or off to the side. Well done Rickstar 💯👌🏽
Thanks for being so nice and helpful to Maya! She watched the video on stream and was amazed about how well the video was made in the time you shot this out.
Bro you’re my favorite skater and you’ve inspired me to keep on skating and now I have a RUclips channel with almost 230subs, thanks for being someone I can look up to Rick
@@Burn77oas7 are you ok? An Auger (that's the tool on that tractor) ... is something that LITERALLY screws into the ground in this case the dirt... she might be laying posts. My comment was pure context but if you're ignorant to basic things you miss it. Shame on you.
4:40 BRO. this whole fence or railing thing is SO helpful!!! and i just so happen to have something that'll do the trick!! i can see where less falling, less injury, less exertion could really help you land it more quickly and you can focus on your feet and even go slow-mo for getting the general concept down. THEN grass. THEN concrete. yeah it floors me when total beginners just get out on concrete and try this, busting ass over and over.... that's a lot of unneeded battery. one wrong fall and it could put you out for a bit. i'll probably do the carpet trick instead of grass but i'll test them both. thanks ricky! :D
Dam Ricky , Grinding, You got this Vid up fast... Definitely an inspiration, im doing my best to focus on constantly creating. I fall into that comfortable position far too many times and i should be constantly creating. 🙏
For real though. I learned heelflips kickflips, the flips before ollies . Even some in switch variations before I learned to Ollie properly. But when I finally got how it’s done, all of my other tricks leveled up instantly. In the span of a year I learned most flat ground sticks, apart from frontside and backside 360 kickflips, 360 hard flips and anything else which was uncommon. My specials were cabalerial flips and 360 inward heels. Didn’t put much time on grinds and none on half pipes. So if you want to become very experienced in flat ground, as described, you need to ride for at least 5 hours a day for 1 year. That’s my experience and because I focused on it, no new players dared to match me in skate, while I was approaching seasoned pros. Just go for it and really put the effort. Jump stair sets small inclines, it’s just amazing. Jumped 10 stairs, and 360 flipped 6. Haven’t skated since 10 years, but those were some of the most fun and freeing years of my life.
holy shit this is hilarious, this guy became a mayafrog in the span of like 2 VODs, already telling someone maya is (flips) to either leave or start treating her better I AM FUCKING HILARIOUS
Never in a million years did I think Ricky Glaser would be teaching Maya Higa how to kickflip. But I am here for it! I think she will land one sooner than people think.
I'm a lefty and I used to skate. I can't understand why people would feel comfortable skating with their non-dominant foot forward. The only explanation I can think of is that she pushes mongo. Or is there another reason ?
Do you have any more tips for Maya? Leave them here!

We just watched this video live on maya's stream. Awesome tips and advice, I'm sure she'll manage to get it right in no time with this

omg is that the tiny mic girl?!?!

Her next attempt is on Wednesday(if the weather is not too bad in Texas) on her twitch channel
Maya on Braille would be a crossover I would never have expected in 100 years lol but would be sick. Good job on this tutorial.
I love this man! It's really cool! Thank you! Maya must've watched this by now.. So sick!
this was so genuinely nice! except roasting poor flip lmao
not even a "at least he tried". Nope shear beat down. F in chat for Flip.

thank youuu mr glaser !
I’m new and I’m starting a channel I’m learning to skate also this is awesome of you for helping people
saving for when i try to learn
All about energy in skateboarding you use a lot of it don’t matter how strong you r it like doin marshal arts but with your feet n legs
the best way to practice foot work is finding a overhead rope to grab on to. easy to set up too
for the algorithm
The first person to tell you Flip is a terrible teacher would probably be Flip.
Great tips!
