Back when I was a kid, I never really cared about this show. I only knew its title Will & Grace and back then I thought Will was being played by Sean Hayes while Grace was being played by Megan Mullally. That was my impression coz I only saw the short teasers on tv and every time they air those teasers it was always highlighted by Sean and Megan scenes. I was surprised to find out years later that Will & Grace were in fact played by two different actors. This show was carried so hard by Sean and Megan that it should have been titled Jack & Karen. With that being said I don't think a Jack & Karen spinoff would have worked without the characters Will & Grace.
Jack and Karen were terrible people but it was just them being themselves, no self-awareness that they were horrible. Will and Grace were both awful people too but they were aware their behaviors were awful and did them anyway. I prefer Karen and Jack.
Elliot is Will and Grace's missed opportunity to highlight Jack's growth in both the original run (because he was recurring only in Season 4) and the reboot.
I never really followed this show, but have suffered through the occasional episode just to laugh with Karen and Jack and dear lamented Leslie Jordan and Shelly Morrison. THEY were the true show.
I wish Bonny had appeared in more episodes. I'm so curious why she chose Jack's donation. Jack didn't seem to remember her from the bank when they finally met in a later episode, and going off what was information was in his file according to this scene, it doesn't exactly seem like the two of them would have had a lot in common. Was it important to her to have a kid who'd be able to dance, or did Jack include information about having really amazing genes that we didn't hear about?
Agreed. They think they're doing it " better" because suddenly all of the members are being given " representation." This was not representation? I swear , media people put so much into so many stories, that in this Day & age it's marketing. Thereafter those LGBT dollars, instead of that LGBT respect.

I've never even met my dad. When I was eight, a fatherless, naïve child, I asked my mom if my sister's dad (who lived hours away) could be my dad. He agreed and I started calling him dad, but stopped at 16. It's been handshakes and casual chats since (when I very rarely saw him). At my sister's wedding (2019), I feel he interacted with me a bit too much: seeing who's taller when I casually mentioned my height, fist-bumping, remarking how good the food looked, praising my heart and apologetic anxiety about possibly hurting someone (when I mentioned my lack of filter). And, I don't exactly know his motive here, but at some point, he said I doubted myself. It was some conversation about pride, I believe. When I denied my self-doubt and said I just didn't like to sound conceited, he said I should see it as confidence and that I was amazing. I'm kinda awkward now--because of sappiness for one thing--but also because...maybe he was just being nice to me? Looking “down” on me? I mean, you could say I ✌"forced"✌ him to be my dad at one point, so maybe he was ✌"forcing"✌ himself to see my good qualities? (But I say “force” loosely so don’t overthink that particular word.) The reason we have friends is so they can help us when we make bad decisions by helping us find the right path and Karen did that. This is a beautiful scene. You need to understand every one in this particular situation and not just take it from Elliot’s side.

So many examples: Seinfeld, HIMYM, Young Sheldon, Will and Grace... All these shows would have been better without the main character.
As much as I love Jack and Karen's scenes, a whole entire show of nothing but their antics would get old pretty fast. What I loved about Will & Grace as a show is the different dynamics all four characters had with each other. Characters like Will & Grace, especially back in the late 90s, needed to be relatable enough on the surface amongst the average American viewer to secure a wider demographic and keep studio execs happy. With secondary leads like Jack & Karen, you can have these characters act as rambunctious as you want because they serve as hilarious foils to the main leads; Karen is the worst assistant to Grace but deep down also cares about Grace's happiness, and while Jack is a hot mess who can't keep a regular job and is financially dependent on Will, he showed Will how to accept himself and be a confident and proud gay man. Just a character study observation I made after having recently finished a whole series re-watch (except for the revival, I'm not sure I wanna touch that)
I like the fact that this wasn't just a one time plot and they brought Elliot back several times over the years.

As much as I love Jack and Karen's scenes, a whole entire show of nothing but their antics would get old pretty fast. What I loved about Will & Grace as a show is the different dynamics all four characters had with each other. Characters like Will & Grace, especially back in the late 90s, needed to be relatable enough on the surface amongst the average American viewer to secure a wider demographic and keep studio execs happy.
With secondary leads like Jack & Karen, you can have these characters act as rambunctious as you want because they serve as hilarious foils to the main leads; Karen is the worst assistant to Grace but deep down also cares about Grace's happiness, and while Jack is a hot mess who can't keep a regular job and is financially dependent on Will, he showed Will how to accept himself and be a confident and proud gay man.
Just a character study observation I made after having recently finished a whole series re-watch (except for the revival, I'm not sure I wanna touch that)
