Dollar stores are everywhere. Together, the two largest chains, Dollar Tree and Dollar General, have close to 40k locations in the US. Despite selling items for as little as $1, dollar stores have been known to rake in billion-dollar revenues thanks to better profit margins than other chain stores, like Walmart. So, are these stores really as wallet-friendly as we think? In this video, we explain what makes dollar stores so profitable and why some believe dollar stores have created a false economy.

No statistics to back it up but I feel like certain items at DG are actually higher than stores like Walmart. I think they mix in higer priced items as well to balance out the deals.

As an example of this, in kc ks, a mostly Hispanic hood, there IS a demand for fresh produce, fresh made food and hi quality food. Guess what? There are all kinds of places that provide it...

Would we consider Dollar General a dollar store? They do have the weird dollar in their name, but their pricing is less consistent than places like Dollar Tree.

Yes - a Dollar General retail store is located close to my apartment -- but so are a multitude of OTHER RETAILERS. I'm no robot being controlled by some outside entity with a slick marketing strategy and a hidden agenda: I can shop at Store A, Store B, AND STORE C in order to obtain the biggest stretch of my shopping dollar. Common sense, people...
