So true. I just recently discovered this channel and its been nothing short of incredible. I have already fallen in love with Sikhism. I was an agnostic and out of all the religions I have been exposed to in my life Sikhi strikes me to be the most complete, the most inclusive and the most compassionate. Jagraj Singh was such a beautiful soul, a once in a life time teacher who has opened my eyes and many others to the true path to God.

This video made explaining Sikhi to my loved ones so much easier, when I told them I wanted to go upon the path.
Unfortunately there is a lot of ignorance, (I too was ignorant until about a year ago,) about Sikhi and I'm sure most people have no idea just how advanced the thinking is within the Religion, and how it actually elevates people and is as you Jagrah says, MORE advanced than the modern world. This video sums is up very well. I am so grateful. Thank you.

The Sikh tenets may be advanced but ultimately it's the immediate Sikh community to any Sikh that dictate Sikhi in practice however un/orthodox. In his time The 10th Guru could have claimed to be a "Modern Sikh" for the fact that they were the evolution and progress of the lives of the 9 Gurus before them. By this example past the indiscriminate non judgemental infinite constant of the 11th Shabad Guru Ji it would be Reasonable to deduce that Sikhs like other groups of people are expected to continue evolving and progressing relative to the world around just as the Gurus did from The 1st to the 10th.

please accept a transgressional occupation by the british along with india's current formation which suppreses the formulation of the sikh paradigm contrasting sikh progress with external culture. we're definitely in a historical transition to be viewed for future years as a dharam in infant years with introspection conducted on scripture, naam and self. so there are many barriers for the dharam to progress.

I have a question veer ji. I went to Hazoor sahib about a year and a half ago and one of the Gurdwara sahib, I believe it was langar Sahib(not sure though), where they didn't let the women serve the langar. My brother was allowed to serve langar, but my mom and I had to go to the back and either cook or wash the dishes. Not that I didn't wnat to wash dishes or anything, but they told me to my face that I cannot serve the langar and this has been bothering me ever since. If Mata Khivi Ji is praised for her langar seva and her kheer, why are women not allowed to serve langar in that gurdwara?

    • @tavleenbrar2947
      @tavleenbrar2947 8 лет назад +4

It was just that gurdwaras that didn't let me serve the langar. All the other gurdwaras I visited let anyone do langar seva.

Unfortunately many Gurdwaras, all around the world, have been infiltrated by the cancer of Punjabiism. One such symptom is this unequal treatment of women which fully goes against Gurbani and Sikh history. It is now the responsibility of each individual who has love for Sikhi to educate themselves and practice the ways of the Guru everyday. if we are prepared to make this effort deep from within our hearts, within time these injustices and unequal anti-Sikh practices will be overcome :-)

i hav a question about the women not covering part, if the women dont have to cover up what does that mean exactly? do they not even need to dress modestly and can wear anything they want? does sggsj mahraj make any reference to this and how girls should dress, ofc it wouldnt be tot he extreme of the nikab but im sure its not right for women to dress ina volgur eay eaither when they are provoking mens attention. and also jugraj singh also says men are not some lustful animals, but they still are lustul and esepcially outiside of the gurdwara. you cant expect a women to go out at night wearing anything and assume that the men will just look away.. thats just the society we live in

It is true that Gurus teachings to a Sikh are to dress modestly, but given we live in a pluralistic world where people have different norms, it would not be right for us to impose our standards on all others. In other words, we have to accept that women in current western countries will not wear modest clothes and we have to train ourselves to look away

So kyu manda akhiye jit jame rajan
Why call her bad when she has given birth to you, the so called pure one?
      Rajan does not mean kings
raajaan here means the person claiming to be pure himself but calls women impure,
Gurbani doesn't accept worldly kings to be great
And also you have to read the while thing yourself to understand better
We must go beyond instilled beliefs and dig deep into Gurbani to understand true message

Very egotistical thing to say. Reamendments? If that's your take home message, then the problem isn't Sikhi, it's your interpretation of it. The Guru made no mistakes when he was given the divine order by God to create Sikhi. Even with the changing times it still holds up. No Sikh dreams of questioning the Guru much less considering "reamendments" and doubting Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

The Lord is not a man. I am so confused on no gender, and yet God is so often referred to as a man. Very frustrating.

Why? The Father is usually the head of the house hold and protector of his children. He is also referred to as Mother very often throughout Sikhi. Very odd thing to be frustrated about

Sikhism doesn't have concept of male and female as we know it in the living world. It's a relationship. Gurus call every human a bride (men and women) to the divine to help us understand the relationship. This does not make the divine a man..the message it is communicating is that we need a relationship of love and yearning for love for the waheguru like the relationship of love between 2 souls as we know in the physical world.

I really have a knee jerk disagreement, in that, anyone who follows the precepts of Immanuel, DOES ABSOLUTELY view men & women as equal.
    2 things
    a) the separation of DUTY of men & women in the so-called church structure may vary
    b) OR the doctrines also may have been corrupted
    2) slavery is a generic understanding doulos, in the original meaning just being servant.
It instructs heads of house to treat servants w dignity and servants to work with love for their heads.
Other places, if you factor in the other doctrines, we are to treat others how we wish to be treated, so when you the the WHOLE picture together, I personally arrive at a conclusion of, it's really describing life with bosses and employees. Not slave/master
Especially given that we are instructed to call no man master
I think (w exceptions) many incongruencies betwixt religious systems really boil down to cultural/linguistic blindspots
I'm in NO WAY standing up and saying "the church is perfect" because I don't even affiliate myself with one, but I know Abba Jah and his ambassador Jesus, and they are not the same thing as xhristianity

Immanuel/Jesus/Isa, whatever you know him by, revealed himself to me, he is the door or the gate that I walked thru and the Spirit of the Father brings anyone willing to learn sort of past religion as understood in modern society.

You know Guru Sahib ji prefers Quality over Quantity. They want true Gursikhs rather than so-called sikhs.
Plus, your intention of disrespecting others is already quite visible in your words.
May God guide you. May God bless you.

I would have to disagree on this point that Sikhi can never be modern. The gurus recorded their writings in the Guru Granth Sahib ji, encouraging the reader to develop his/her internal qualities such as compassion, sympathy, empathy, justice, learning to view the world in a truthful way(understanding God(the one energy) is in everything everywhere), understanding and being aware of the universal laws of nature i.e remembering everything including human beings are mortal therefore practicing these qualities to control ones desires and uplift ones mind, speech and action. Regardless of time the principles described above will remain applicable.

@Paul Singh No not really. Real Hinduism is very progressive and modern. Hinduism isn't even a religion to be honest; it's a collection of philosophies and practices from around the Indian subcontinent. That is why Hindu practices differ so much just from state to state. Even so, the man who wrote the comment saying "Sikhi never can be modern" was talking about Sikhi, not Hinduism.
Attempting to bring down another whole collection of traditions and faiths followed by over 1 billion people worldwide without you yourself reading any Hindu scriptures is a disservice to Hindu rishis and saints who were extremely "modern" and progressive people over 5000 years ago. These saints and gurus were not "out of touch with reality" but were very much in touch with true reality. This video by Basics of Sikhi clearly states that as a Sikh you are not allowed to discriminate or insult another religious belief. And yet here you are doing exactly that. I would highly recommend for you to clean your own house before worrying about others.
