Over the least year I found myself riding my gravel bike a lot more than my mountain bike. I've done a few century rides this summer and felt sore but OK after, but when I jump on my mountain bike I'm struggling after a few miles. I have a nice trail system in my city so I can be on the trail in 10 minutes versus a half an hour drive to a mountain bike trail head that can be crowded on weekends.
Doing the same as you and finding increasing the distance very addictive. I went from zero to a 50 mile plus ride in a month. Still using my xc hardtail for these rides tho🙄 Can't see a gravel bike appearing quickly so last week I took the peak off my helmet. This was such a boost that I feel sure waiting for my gravel bike will be a lot easier.😌
Awesome job! Feels great, doesn't it? One of the most pleasurable things I've learned about riding (touring, packing, mountain, gravel) is that if I'm not racing or practicing for a race I can do whatever the heck I want to do. That means I can hammer if I want or take my time and enjoy the views. That's why I've gotten to the point of riding at around 10 mph or so and stopping every hour to look around. Gives certain portions of the anatomy a rest and gives your spirit a rest as well. Makes it a whole lot more fun to ride.
Great vid 👍 if you ever decide to upgrade the bars I recommend kitchen sink by redshift with the loop. They're ultra wide, have a rise and flared drops. Love them
Buen video, gracias por compartir Milton !! Ea interesante ver esta otra opcion sobre bicis. Si vas a Snow Summit podrias hacer un video avisando o quizas un meet and greet ! 👍🏽
Hey there, good stuff. Do you utilize electrolytes, powders, or add anything to your water?? As you well know, fuel and hydration are crucial for distance rides. FYI you can't eat enough during these types of rides, if you think you are eating enough, you probably are not. Being older, myself 56, ya gotta fuel!! Also consider flavored salt tablets...Matt here from Minnesota, Gravel, Road, Cyclocross, Mountain biking. Enjoy brother!
@@Mr2fiveone hey Matt, I actually just picked up gravel. Currently not adding anything to my water. I know there’s a lot of options out there but just haven’t yet. A Gatorade was the closest thing I took with me on this ride. In terms of food… I totally get it now… take more than what I think I’ll need. Thanks for chiming in
@@MILTONATOR Legit, youtube has a lot of good resources depending on what your bike has. There are a few channels that have shown off some of the good upgrades using stock parts.
Please do make sure you're taking adequate nutrition, including energy type/sugary things. If you are suddenly upping your mileage significantly you are at risk of rhabdomyolysis, essentially you overwork your muscles thet begin to breakdown and the breakdown products give you an acute kidney injury. Making sure you have appropriate nutrition, including sugars and electrolytes, and stay hydrated will help reduce the risk. But essentially if you get severe leg cramps, don't try to continue. Carry on with the programme, you're doing awesome just please stay safe!

Interesting. You’d think all the gravel miles would carryover to mtb. At least that’s what I’m banking on for me
@@MILTONATOR I think the gravel is more endurance over time and the mountain biking is more high intensity with the climbs

@@fortesfortunajuvat6782 thanks and well said. An immense feeling of freedom being out there, out of bounds sort of. Already planning my next one
Sick vid brother! You should definitely do the rosarito to Ensenada ride. Overcoming the mental part is such a great feeling

Once you dial in your nutrition (bars, gels, electrolytes etc) you’ll be crushing that ride. Good job!

sounds like you need to size up to the next cassette like an 11-36t or 11-38t if 2x or 11-44 or 46 1x.

Long rides are an eating and drinking event with a bike problem.
I'll grab my mountain bike! My gravel bike sits there. Mountain bikes are way more comfortable.
