Really great overview on the IT business analyst role. Often in interview it is about communicating this understanding though an example you did in your previous organization so can you share that example with actual IT tool involved and actual business need do that it also helps in the interview
This was really helpful, typically people just elaborate on the different methods ICT BAs use but I was trying to find a comprehensive breakdown on what an ICT BA does so thank you!
Really appreciate the content you created. Hope you will make more content about different types of diagrams BA often use to decribes a business process and how to use them effectively. Thank you, sir!
Best of luck. I currently work as an IT Business Analyst for a global company and it’s very very challenging. And with every challenge comes a great learning opportunity. Every learning opportunity adds on to your acumen as a professional in the IT and business field. I’ve had a very rewarding experience and I feel blessed to do what I do…best of luck
@@miamiscene any tips or skills that I need to get before I get into this field? I actually still a little bit miserable but I still look forward to this career
@@nverend4450 It’s very rewarding because you are looked at as consultant for the business regarding the technology that they leverage. There are IT BA certifications that you can acquire along with a PMP certification that will help get you in the door. Sharpen up your communication skills by learning “business language” and “IT language” as well. This will allow you to be the liaison between the business and IT or vice versa.
Thanks for the video. I've worked in a techincal role over the past 5 - 6 years in IT. Over the past year I have transistioned into a service / client management position. I'm now trying to layout my options and align a chosen path with my best interests. Naturally I gravitate towards working with clients, understanding their needs, and looking for solutions which maximise business value. Do you reckon moving towards an IT Business Analyst role seems like a good path to take?
I'm a university student from Sri Lanka..so I'm reading for my business administration degree (bachelor) so after 2 years I can choose my specialization area..so now I hope to do as my specialization area business analytic or management information systems.. After completing this bachelor, I hope to immigrate to Australia. So, can I know what to do for the specialization area? And in what areas is it very possible to get PR? I hope to immigrate to Australia to do my master's program.
I appreciate this. I've been applying to a bunch of jobs, and I had forgotten about this role until I received a call to interview lol. Needed to figure out exactly what it was. I work as a SysAdmin right now, but I've been put into an informal project management role, which I've been somewhat enjoying. Recently I've decided that after about 7 years in IT I want to transition to a 'non-technical' role perhaps towards management, or Project Management; I've been getting kind of tired of being the guy pushing buttons. In your experience, does this seem like a good transition or stepping stone into the management side? Or should I try to head over into a more "supervisory" role such as a Senior SysAdmin (I have interviews for both, and this is assuming best case scenario that I receive both offers)?
Just from my own experience, a technically versed project manager can be such an asset. I have had to work with too many non-technical project managers that slowed everything down because they did not understand the technology and IT enough. So, definitely an option. I moved into management and my technical background makes a big difference in certain roles. In others I am probably missing some business and strategy knowledge which can limit how far I get.

Hi Christoph, thank you so much for this wonderful video. I currently working as an Operations Business Analyst and hoping to pivot to IT BA, I do not have a strong IT background and was wondering if you would be kind enough to advise how or where I can acquire this knowledge. Thank you 😊
Great explanation sir. I'm working as a software support analyst in an product based company. My roles are similar to that of BA but after the system has gone live and is in Production phase. Will it be wise for me to try transitioning into the BA role? Please advise.
I probably do not have enough information for your specific situation, but I would see it as a good move to go after a BA role. But do yourself a favor and compare the two roles and also map out where to go from there so that you have a rough idea where to take your IT career.
Take a look at this article from CIO magazine. www.cio.com/article/3269514/6-business-analyst-certifications-to-advance-your-analytics-career.html Look less for the certifications itself, but the requirements. It may point you into the right direction to bridge that gap into IT. Let me know what you think. Happy to discuss more here.
Hello sir, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.I'm a BBA student. Will I be eligible for IT Business Analyst job after completing MBA with specialization in Business Analytics?
@@ITCareerGuide Actually each listings have different roles. One company's role for BA is a bit different from the other. so I get confused about Business Analyst , Technical Business Analyst and System Analyst
It is not a bad move, but you should really map out a career plan to make sure it fits with your overall goals. Front-end developer to business analyst is a significant change. What is your end-game plan? Very different income opportunities as well.
The day has only 24 hours. Focus on one position and be the best you can. Learn and absorb the knowledge. If there are no internal opportunities for growth later on, then switch jobs, but give yourself enough time to learn and build up experience.
I am more of a software engineer but the higher pay and the possible career advancement if I go into business analyst is huge. Is an IT business analyst a good move?
Good software engineers in the US can easily make $150K-$300K per year. IT Business Analysts will not go as high. Low to mid $100K range. You want to enjoy your work or be able to do a job long enough that you reach a financial goal before doing something different.
You want to look for courses on business data analytics, potentially some agile courses as well as there seems to be a matching trend to marry the two together. The main key item is data analytics and how to can bridge it to information technology. Most professional level certifications require a masters or a lot of work experience. You may have to settle for a different path. I am not even sure if the certifications would help that much initially.

Yes, that is possible, but you need to figure out if you can handle the stress that comes with 2 jobs - especially if the business hours are overlapping.
