As a producer and artist. Both gkmc and nwts were highly inspirational for me. Equally. But like dot said, as the years gone by. The substance in gkmc carries that long lasting and vital spiritual element to it.
Drake will only have a classic album if he can write his own bars. that’s what kendrick was alluding to - drake didn’t write NWTS or take care, so they can’t be considered hiphop classics
@@dmoneywmb5017 no he didn’t 😂 He says he gave up almost half of his album which would be less than 5 So that’s 3-4 out of 20 songs 😂 come with facts my boy
Kendrick releasing To Pimp a Butterfly just 30 days after If You're Reading This It's Too Late is gloriously evil. Like "congratulations, you just released your best ever album or mixtape; I just released the greatest album of all time".
Most people don't even like to pimp a butterfly to be honest they consider it boring which I agree with I don't even think that was the best album that year
I think it was a combination of Kendrick and the meek beef that made him give up on the classic. Once the ghostwriting was exposed and he was still on top, he knew then he could rally do wrong as long as he kept the hits coming. I think that moment showed him that he has so much fan support, he doesn't "need" the respect that comes with a classic.
You hear Drake's best works like 'take care' and you get what the whole diss about. Drake's a singer trying to fit in hip hops big 3. Kendrick just wanted hip hop to stay hip hop.

The comments are missing the point being made in the video. He's not saying Drake doesn't have classic albums, he's saying that after NWTS didn't win Album of the year, Drake decided to make hit records and putting as many of those hits on an album instead of making a cohesive album like he did for NWTS, which is a widely considered classic album.

Drake not understanding the full context of Control was the start of his downfall because of his ego. He got in his feelings over something he didn’t find time to fully grasp and taking it as a complete shot to him personally. He was on the right path but when this happened, his trajectory of making a classic like Take Care & Nothing Was the Same became shrouded in chasing sales instead of making groundbreaking music for the public.
Question......why is it that when Drake through out the years of his career is doing the artist the favor? can it not also be ,Drake is getting on new Artist to stay relevant ...it can also be both !!! 1.What is Drakes sound? 2. whats his Rap only album? 3.Is an Actor /Singer/Rapper a true Rapper Hip Hop Artist as we culturally perceive it. 4.What is Drakes sound , stripping away his accents & Features🤔 I prefer Drake back in Young Money days , he no longer seems authentic , enjoying himself or true to what he enjoyed originally and TRUE lovers of the Craft will understand and agree.
Drake being mixed race doesn’t separates them. It’s the culture. Kendrick continues paying ups to Eminem, and collaborated with him even as he built (one of) the continued centerpieces of his art: that hip hop requires a reset of innovation and creative work that lives forever as he says; to create not only comprehensive works as single albums but through the full body of a career and in Kendrick’s ambitions, through hip hop and the industry as a whole. The only reason the mixed race piece is mentioned is because it seems like Drake is fighting hard to deny this piece of himself. Started from the Bottom had him flying to Toronto, HYFR has him in a grown-Up Bat Mitzvah. All when he was ramping up for his classics. I wonder an alternate timeline if he kept the path and stayed true to his roots.
But most of that was weeknd stuff. Drake is like 30% him 70% biting other people's sound. I would say his first album was truly him. After that, he consistently used others people sound or other people's sound and bars
Nahhh to Drake fans and kids growing up around that time think that’s a classic. To everyone else it was big but that’s it. No one critically gave that a Classic album status. There’s nothing profound about that album.
@@KestraBeatsI really wish people would actually understand the truth instead of just running with what they want to believe weekend contributed to the album by Laying some vocals and singing background and the hook on a couple of songs that's all he did oh and he gave him the beats that's it
'Nothing Was The Same ' is one of Drake's dopest albums if not the best but it just couldn't beat the hype that 'Good Kid Maad City ' has generated over the year. 'The language ' was a good jab at Kendrick but it went over most people's heads.

@@JustaguyIam24 DAMN won the Pulitzer Prize. To Pimp A Butterfly, is one of the greatest albums ever made without regard to genre. Drake’s entire discography is grounded in tremendous mediocrity.
@@laHagans yeah when’s the last time you heard TPAB lol I’m not shotting on Kendrick but drake has impacted the industry and music to a higher degree by far than Kendrick. Kendrick needed to beef with Drake to even compete numbers wise. Kendrick is like jazz, it’s great but hard to listen to sometimes and Drake is like pop, easy to listen to but not as much depth sometimes. By default pop reaches more people and has more impact
@@JustaguyIam24 I just played it today. I have never played Drake’s music. I do not stream and I do not buy it. His (Drake’s) mediocrity is too overwhelming. I despise it.
@@JustaguyIam24Exactly so when people are comparing quality their going to say the jazz artist has higher quality though the more enjoyable music is the pop artist. People respect the Jazz player more than the pop artists because if the discipline, talent and intellect that goes into that genre. The pop artist entertains you but they may not have the disciplines it takes to make successful music. Unless that pop artists is incredibly talented and ambitious that’s how it goes. MJ and prince were the exceptions is like that because they applies the same level of musicianship but different genre. Either way people respect intellect more than amusement. They know when they hear substance and something frivolous, Which is why drake’s approach makes making a classic an uphill battle.
Drake became jealous of Kendrick because he didnt expect someone who came from young money and Lil Wayne to be surpassed. he thought he could "lil bro" Rocky and Dot. the best rapper alive was passing the crown and the control verse was Kendrick snatching it. its why Drake had to drop every year to prove his the best but deep down he knew he was 2nd best in every scenario.
I think drake was offended at control cause it was a shortcut in a way. As good as gkmc was people still slept on Kendrick but all of a sudden they were saying he’s as great as Drake even though he accomplished way less. ESP since Kendrick was rapping about being jealous of Drake. I do think Drake should’ve just let that man have his moment though instead of being sensitive lmao
@@JustaguyIam24 yeah you can't take nothing from drake, his part of some classic choruses and melodies we won't forget. Kendrick was just that thorn in his side he couldn't get rid of. as a cameraman/editor, my advice to you is - this type of videos do not need 2 cameras, especially that ‘side angle’, too wide and different from main. If you want to ‘hide the cuts’ in post, just overlay with whatever video or photo
That boy so tender!!😂😂😂 I remember he was mad at rolling stone because they were gonna put him on the cover, but A BETTER ACTOR THAN HIM DIED (Phillip Seymore Hoffman) and went on a long ass rant. Not recognizing the world ain't his. That's that lil boy mentality and behavior. Throwing tantrums because he ain't recognized. Like when he got mad his mom for not getting him a sandwich. He ain't built for the harshness. The reality. The cloth he's cut from is rice paper and he wants to stand amongst those cut from teflon??? Nah! Glad he's getting exposed.
I’m pretty sure it would have something to do with Drake DM’ing Baby Keems girlfriend . Listen to the Family ties song again “ # 2 DMing my b**** / it’s cool ion ask why “
@@obsessedwiththegreatness They did not adress shit. They only shot allegations. Nobody really knows why they hate each other. Some personal stuff we will never know for sure.
I think Kendrick was insulted that Drake ever let it cross his mind that he was even comparable to him as an MC and then when found out about the ghostwriters he was food
1. The way this guy looks had me *shook* (not what I expected). 2. I can't lie, regardless of how the beef played out. The first half makes me happy that they're beefing publicly again because when I listened to "Nothing Was The Same" after he dropped "Push Ups" I realised that was my favourite version of him (despite it being the beginning of him trying to get street credit to get rap acceptance). I'd love another album like that tbh. 3? - Ironically, Drake & Kendrick genuinely had great musical chemistry. The part people seem to hate to give him credit for is other artist's really suck when they go out of their genre (I didn't forget any of the trash features on those EDM beats, y'all). But both Drake & Kendrick body every different type of beat they get onto & yes, Kendrick - acknowledge it or not - has hopped on some wildly different styles (bodied them, obviously). 4? I prefer Dot lyrically for how he uses his voice and creates+adopts character through storytelling BUT (to me - but I also believe objectively) Drake had the better verse on both of their songs together. His verses were the one's people waited for especially on "Problems" because there was a time where that "and juhhhh, okay I got it.." was the line people I was around shouted whenever it came on (that's *NOT* to say people didn't go ham for "Halle Berry, Halle Lujah" just not as much for Drake's verse in my experience). No Cape, just a few thoughts that came through while seeing the covers and reminiscing on the moments when they happened...
“Left without a classic” bro the only people who don’t consider take care, NWTS and IYRTITL as classic albums are drake haters. Just because drake got destroyed and has been making subpar music the past couple of years doesn’t mean we should do revisionist history about how good drake’s past albums were.
oh look. it's the "someone has a different opinion from me, so they must be a hater" paragraph. was wondering when I would see this. my guy we literally have web archive at our disposal. you can freely turn back time on the internet to see that there's no revisionist history going on here. things have been trending this way
When he went on that tour with Drake. Kendrick Lamar saw something that. Dude done the way he moveed, but one day it's all coming out? But it's a reason he don't like him,it has nothing to do with music. Why he doesn't like Drake..
Not a dick rider but y'all are hating or just fishing for views. He clearly has classics and songs that are still standing the test of time 5 years later. Sucks to see how biased this channel has gotten. Used to be my favorite for rap coverages..
What's a classic, exactly? How commercial can a rapper get before they're pop? How important is it for today's rappers to preserve the "sport" (i.e. competitiveness) of rap? If anything, this video is thorough enough to help people grasp the big questions about the culture and do right by it. Pettiness aside, people's opinions on this beef are useful. They reveal so much about what we think it means to be Black, to be a good man, and to be successful. I really hope people try to learn from what we see on our screens instead of over-identifying with people who don't know you personally and going to war for them online. Thank you for this video 🙏🏽

On the other hand, Drake didn't have a character. he didn't have a voice. being so long in the game, surely an artist gonna develop a personality right?. Drake needs new personality and accent to stay being hot. what? Being British today do we? because UK drill hot now, what ? Being thug today do we? because you don't like other rapper call you soft

One common middle ground is Kendrick only pop out when he mentions drake name since the beginning.
Lmao those were harsh words 😂😂

4.What is Drakes sound , stripping away his accents & Features🤔
I prefer Drake back in Young Money days , he no longer seems authentic , enjoying himself or true to what he enjoyed originally and TRUE lovers of the Craft will understand and agree.
It's pleasure to see you in person since i'm watching your vids for a year at least! Congrats with the album! Will 100% check it out!)
Take care is considered a classic by many doe
But most of that was weeknd stuff. Drake is like 30% him 70% biting other people's sound. I would say his first album was truly him. After that, he consistently used others people sound or other people's sound and bars

Take Care & NWTS are classics. Now Drake doesn’t have a classic in him anymore.
I think Kendrick was insulted that Drake ever let it cross his mind that he was even comparable to him as an MC and then when found out about the ghostwriters he was food
i feel like this whole issue is subjective asf, cause what is even considered a "classic album"? Does Drake not already have any??
Truthfully all this said there's nothing in the world, let alone in HipHop like "To Pimp A Butterfly"
*Different.*

If anything, this video is thorough enough to help people grasp the big questions about the culture and do right by it.
Pettiness aside, people's opinions on this beef are useful. They reveal so much about what we think it means to be Black, to be a good man, and to be successful.
