Already have a More Money Challenge category and I plan to start on January 1! My budget nerd self was excited to find the new challenge in my weekly round up email. The going will get tough because I’m an early rising teacher, but I have a new freezer breakfast sandwich recipe to try and my coffee maker works perfectly. Also… coffee creamers (yes plural) are essential items 😏

I am ridiculously excited to start this challenge! I'm using the "Make a Fresh Start" button to kick off the new year, so this is pefect timing. Dining out has been our kryptonite, so very curious to see how much we'll save overall just from eliminating that category.

Any tips on implementing the MMC with a family on board?

I don't have a family, so I'm just spitballin' here:
1. Remind them it's just for 30 days. If it feels awful, it won't be forever.
2. Decide on what your "why" is together. What would you do with the savings as a family? Put it toward a new house where the kids can finally have their own rooms? Put it toward your first vacation since the pandemic? Or maybe something as simple as they get their own gift card to their favorite restaurant at the end of it. If they feel like they're in on the reward, it could be a good motivator!
3. Before you pitch the idea to them, brainstorm three ideas for new and exciting "at home" activities that can take place of eating out or buying non-essentials. An ice cream bar every Sunday night? (Come on, groceries are an essential, right?! Even if it includes chocolate syrup??) Frozen pizza and movie night on Fridays? Have some concrete ideas *before* you pitch the challenge to them so they know right off the bat they can still have fun while saving tons of money!
