I have had limited use with my GoldMaxx Power over the 4 years of ownership, preferring my much cheaper, lighter and simpler, Tecnetiks Eurotek machine (with readout) but the XP's coil failed and having bought a hefty 11"x15" near-new coil off Ebay for under £40, I have been trying it out lately. As I find all the settings quite complicated, I have tended to use the Auto one all the time. I now know better and will try it out at a rally this w/e up here in East Lancs. I tend to walk a little too quickly (always in a hurry to cover what ground there is) so a faster response is a bonus. Cheers.
So glad you made this video . I've just purchased a Goldmaxx, detector no 5 lol. I thought auto would just eliminate coke. Food for thought coke is eliminated using disc on some of my other machines I wonder if recovery is slowed to such an extent on those also. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting this! my friends told me how to setup my machine and I use auto for that reason, I'm now going to try to stop using Auto. I'd heard auto limited recovery speed but thought it wouldn't make that much difference. Amazed to see it ignore that fairly big silver coin, scary stuff.

Thanks Dave, I must admit I was expecting a lot of people to disagree..... but felt having used the machine for many years I really should share my experience because its important that people understand the pros and cons of such features so they then make informed decisions. The one thing I've been keen not to do is try to set myself up as an expert because I think there is no such thing! If we all pool our thoughts then hopefully we all learn from each other. I've had so called experts try to tell me how to use this machine when they have never even owned one and I've owned mine for many many years.... always makes me laugh that :) Good luck mate hope your machine finds you plenty.
Many valuable finds have been made over the years.... but to most its historic value that means a lot to them. If anyone starts detecting for purely financial rewards they are going to be disappointed very quickly.
BUDDY LIGHT Finds like the Staffordshire hoard count as that mate and the Snettisham Hoard.... but they are extremely rare!!!!!! Good luck finding one :) I will have to stick to finding the odd interesting find me thinks.
How did you test it? There is iron under these targets.... it's iron masking the coin! But go for it if you think it's ok then that's cool and all that matters! I've been using the goldmaxx range since they came out and have been detecting since I was 8yr old.... now mid 40s. It's a great machine but honestly you will lose targets using auto of that there is no doubt but it's only going to happen if iron is close by too. Good luck mate hope you find loads moving forwards.

Hi Mate when out of Auto even at minimum you will reject iron. Iron will always either break, spit or sound like its a faster paced signal almost like it cant get out of your headphones fast enough (this is subtle but you learn it). When in doubt though back off the signal and check it with the leading edge of the coil..... if it is small iron or large it will break using the leading edge! this is an under used method of checking for iron. SuperJammygit honestly mate buy the xp cheap wired backphones and see the difference.... headphone selection is key to the gmp.... those Sony's maybe a bit too smooth

you should easily pick up the silver coin weather in auto or not. it is just a discriminator. you need to get you machine serviced. I have no problem with mine picking up silver...auto on or off. you have a problem with your machine mate.
There is not problem with my machine Keith, the only reason my machine is not picking the large silver coin up in Auto is because the Auto function decreases the recovery speed dramatically.... therefore in my video the coin is being masked by the surrounding iron when Auto is engaged. The thing to remember here is Auto is purely a coke switch and really is only designed to be used when in areas that are coke infested.... I can pick the coin up in Auto too but just not when there is iron around. I've posted this up as a visual aid for people to see the negative side of Auto but if you like Auto mate then that's fair enough as there are no right and wrongs in detecting life just opinions. But certainly my machine is functioning absolutely perfectly just cant wait for the good weather to come along so I can get my video gear on again and I can post up some decent find vids as at the moment my setup is not waterproof.

Lets just say XP bring out a Deus Mk2 special edition which has loads of new features but its found to have 33% less depth, that would be considered dramatic and they would sell about 3 more worldwide if they were lucky after that lol. But fair play mate as I say you may not consider 33% dramatic because we all have different views on things.

Ive watched this numerous times over rhe years and just thought I'd add that once you get a cracking signal, you can put it into auto to see if its coke if you know what i mean

I search with it just open but wanted to show that auto effects the recovery a lot by using more discrim for this test.

What sort of land are you detecting on Lee?

Bottle caps are difficult to get rid of.... is the other problem iron?

With the auto out you will dig iron nails,you say tune your ears in but no you can not,, please advise me on how to knock out the iron ,out off auto
