I'm so grateful for the freedom of all the Hmong girls in America. Yes, no more force marriages. It use to be where if a guy liked a girl, he would go and tell his parents, and the elders from the guy's family would go over to the girls house and beg her parents to give her over in marriage to their son. Most of the time, the persistence of the guy's parents (going over night after night) would overwhelm the girls parents, and in response the girl's parents would give in and give their daughter in marriage. The reason being was because, if it ever so happens that a son of theirs encounters the same situation, in wanting to marry the other family's daughter. The other family would return the favor by giving over their daughter in marriage. You pretty Hmong girls are very fortunate these days. 😉
