Now this is probably the best interview I have ever seen with Barry Manilow. It is so nice to see him relaxed and chatting about his work and style. I could watch this for hours. He really is a master arranger.
A master in every way! I always ask about the WORK and how they do what they do. A profound influence, and a really generous person. Please subscribe so I can keep making these interviews available.
@@BernadetteKearns-cq9vr I disagree that he feels every word in his songs. After all, he said that the love songs were “golden handcuffs”. His heart is not in them at all.
Barry manilow is one of the greatest music arrangers of our time. This is why his songs are so fantastic and he has lasted so long. His great voice, ✍ writing such wonderful songs and arranging. What a gift to all of us to have Barry in our life. Thanks Great 👍 interview.
I was afraid to click on your name. Who are you? You interviewed Barry M.? I am not good with phones so I may make all kinds of mistakes. Thanks for saying you liked my comment a long time ago. I believe they are soul mates, thats why I said that.i don't know if anybody else agrees . I hope Barry is OK after getting covid. I had a nightmare that some guy tried to spit on me because he had covid and was not only trying to give to me , but also violently kill me. That's about the worst nightmare I've had in a long time. Sorry it took me so long to respond.
Finally!! What a stunning interview. It actually showed that Manilow is a deep and thinking musician - all to often he is not interviewed in the right depth. Thaank you for doing this.

This is great! I enjoy hearing him discuss his work. I could listen on and on. He is such an interesting person . You can truly see how much he loves music.
I have always loved Barry Manilow and this is the first time I found this interview. I have watched many of Barry's interviews, but I find that Mr. Niles, this is by far the best interview I have ever seen and I have followed Barry since 1974 so I saw him and his career be so very difficult in the beginning as the critics really jabbed him, but as he went on I knew he was going to be a very big Number 1 Entertainer. Thank you Mr. Niles for sharing this with us, his fans and somethng we can watch whenever. You did a great job................Betsy Basile
Barry....This interview is so wonderfully interesting. I always wondered how you did all the unbelievable things you did. I never heard anybody do an interview like this before. Your songs were and not now syrupy . People just don't realize what goes into all your videos and concerts. Your timbre is amazing and a lot of people would find this interview with Richard Niles kind of boring. They want to hear your songs, but I have been a musical person most of my life. Really enjoyed this, Mr. Niles, and of course, I love you Barry forever and a day. Betsy Basile

Great interview, Richard. You ask the kinds of questions I would like like: "What kinds of software do you use" or "when you say you 'study' (a particular technique, what does that mean?"
@@DRRICHARDNILES I found it, thank you. Another master musician. Did you ever get to meet or interview Michael Masser? He produced and arranged a lot for Diana Ross and Whitney. His beautiful music makes my spine chill.
Thank you for this detailed interview about how Barry made his songs so unique and interesting. Even though I am not a musician, I like that Barry was so candid in your interview Richard. The one topic you did not cover with Barry was the song "Copacabana" and how the popularity of the song became a television movie that Barry starred in before becoming a musical theater production. Given that Barry never was a trained actor and changed the "Copacabana" plot in which instead of Tony dying as in the song and tv movie, Rico dies in the musical comedy and Lola and Tony have the traditional happy ending that you have in musical comedy. Hopefully, Richard will interview Barry again,
@@DRRICHARDNILES are you sure? Barry mentions the album has just been released. The release date was 13 November 2001. He says it will enter the UK Album chart at 17. It was actually 18.

Richard Niles, he's respected by many musicians, and has worked with some of the best---he names quite a few. And he did go to Julliard . . .
