The thumbnail shows both disrespect towards Del Toro, and a complete lie. Disney was in fact NOT the original for Pinocchio. Both Del Toro’s and Disney’s movie are inspired by a book. There is little similarities in style, and in story if comparing the two movies. One is completely hideous, and more CGI than it is even live action. It has a more wholesome touch to it than Del Toro’s. And over all just being the same as the first Pinocchio they’ve made in the past, just far worse when it comes to the style and effort. Del Toro’s far more accurate when it comes to the story of Pinocchio when looking at the book. It takes darker turns than Disney’s. Del Toro by far made the best Pinocchio out of the three this year.

Very much agree. I absolutely loved Del Toro’s Pinocchio.
I’ve never read the original story (the book) but based on the versions I have seen and what I know about the different takes on the story, I’d argue that it’s the best version of Pinocchio.

Well they also take place in different time periodes. Having it take place in fascist italy is very interesting and del toros unique touch. Both disney and del toros are much nicer then the original pinocchio but del toros is closer.
Del toro made a movie with his heart. Disney made it with their wallet. And while the 1940s disney pinocchio is still beautiful by todays standard was it also a clusterduck story wise.
Somehow the new version of that movie are among the worst looking and most disrespectful movies of all time.

Pinocchio was my first Del Toro movie and it didn't disappoint, so I agree that this video is much disrespectful. Knowing the book's version was not good at all made his version of the character my favorite version even above Disney's version. Del Toro has been trying to get his version off the ground since 2008 or so, so this video calling his version a "copy of Disney" holds no water. I'm a Disney adult but Disney is not the original .

I'd say that Del Toro's CHARACTER of Pinocchio fits the book BETTER- but lets face it- book Pinocchio was a LOT more cruel and troublemaking- I mean, he threw a damn HAMMER at the cricket... Del Toro's Pinocchio is more like genuinely good intentions but doesn't really understand the ramifications of his actions... Biggest connection to book Pinocchio would be the fact that he works purely on "If I want to do it, I'll do it, if I don't want to- I'm not going to"

There are a LOT of problems with the thumbnail. First of all, the first photo is completely wrong; Disney’s remake of Pinocchio is not the original. While I haven’t seen either Disney versions, I’ve heard almost nothing positive about the remake and it does not deserve to be associated with the word “original” or mixed up with the REAL original 1940 film. Second, Del Toro’s film is in NO WAY a copy. There are hardly any similarities other than the general story, and even that is vastly different from either of Disney’s films. Del Toro’s film is not even lightly inspired by Disney’s, it’s a completely different film and shouldn’t be thought of as the same movie at all, let alone a copy. The remake is not the original, and Del Toro’s film is not a copy. The thumbnail of this video is blatantly false and should be changed.

I understand he needs discipline but this is overkill in my opinion.

Well, it’s true many people grew up watching the version of Pinocchio from the Disney animated movie. But surprisingly Pinocchio existed long before any of those movies ever existed. Pinocchio was a book that was a lot darker than the Disney film. We’ve come to know and love… or at least one of them. Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio stays true to the dark themes of the old book. And in my eyes, it is the best adaptation of Pinocchio by far. Sorry Disney, you can’t win them all. But like Guillermo Del Toro said “ either you make the story the way it needs to be tall or it’s just as good as not making it” and the latest Disney film of Pinocchio was an epic disaster. It did not need to exist!

In Del Toro he chose to give up immortality to save his father, in the end it was the spirit the father fell in love with not if he was a human. The spirit of his dead child. If Geppeto was given a "real boy" then he'd be a monster for only caring about if he was flesh and bones, so by that logic- Pinocchio will never be good enough. Yes Pinocchio died saving his father. Think of it like wanting a specific race and gender of a kid, if the parents don't get what they want vs learning to love and care they're a disgusting parasite.

  • @yall_idk

its not suppose to look like the Disney version since it is based off of the fable. Del toro's is more accurate to that fable, plus actual human emotions are in this one not just sunshine and rainbows throughout the whole film. coming back to the fable Pinocchio was a brat who got in trouble a lot, but he got better and more likable in the end or smth idk haven't read the fable in years. So no, it is not a copy.
Edit: also del toro's Pinocchio was in the process before the remake was in process, still not a copy.

Del Toro's version is his own adaptation of the source material, whilst Disney's latest is a modern remake of they're older, more child-friendly version. If anything, the Disney 22 film is the copy, not Del Toro's.

Pinocchio is a public-domain story that's been adapted over time and allowing different directors to make their interpretations. Both Disney and Guillermo Del Toro have their distinct retelling of the classic Italian fairy tale. There's no such thing as either one being original or the copy. The only copycats that exist are the mockbusters made to copy Disney's interpretation which Del Toro is not.
