  • A well overdue video of my two bog barrel planters filmed in mid July showing the best bits of growth in the growing season as well as weather damage from recent storms.

    My sarracenia are growing super slow. In bog with vfts and drosera which are thriving. 🤷‍♂️ I love your videos and voice!

      I find with the bog the years vary based on weather, my sarracenia have been very slow this year too due to the harsh weather we had over winter. But hopefully with a mild winter they’ll do better next year

      Yes I am in south Alabama on the gulf coast. We have sarracenia and drosera growing wild here. I may just need to let them acclimate longer in my new bogs. Keep up the good work!!

    Great to have another of your videos again. Never disappointed with your plants, they look great. Are your bog barrels drained or undrained? How do you monitor or know when it is time to water your bog barrel, and how do you know how much water is sufficient?

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  3 года назад +1

      My bogs are undrained, they are planted in a liner without any drainage holes. The pipe in the middle indicates how high the water level is in the bog so I know when there is less water in the bottom. In winter the bogs can fill completely with water so smaller plants are submerged but as I live in a low rainfall area they don’t stay that way long hence why I did not place drainage holes higher up. Hope this helps

    What a lovely collection you have in your outdoor bog do you have video on how you constructed the barrels to grow your plants?

      @@carnivorous_plant_girl How/when did you get started with carnivorous plants? What was your first carnivorous plant? Does everyone in England have an amazing greenhouse like yours?

    I like these videos. I just got my first cape sun dew, am I washing all the dew off when I water it from the top? Because I didn't even think of that.

    • @bstrhn84

      Rain comes naturally from above. Keep it humid. 👍

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  3 года назад +2

      If outside then rain naturally washes dew off but they regain it quickly with bright sunlight. If kept inside then they do not need to be watered from the top. Sit them in water instead 😁

    Another fine video. When is the best time to plant a bog barrel? Just acquired 2 half barrels and plan to bring them inside this winter.

      Thank you! When I planted mine I did it in late February just before plants came out of winter dormancy. Anytime during dormancy I would say is best for planting temperate plants. Depends what plants you are planning you use :)

    Do the Pings do ok in the bog garden, enough drainage? Thanks

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  3 года назад +2

      The Pinguicula I have in the bog garden are P.grandiflora which are a temperate bog plant so are often found in boggy conditions compared to Mexican Pinguicula which prefer to be drier.

    do you leave your bog garden outside all year and cover them up with something

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  3 года назад +1

      Yes the barrels are kept outside all year and I don’t cover them. We had a very harsh winter just gone and they spent a couple days frozen but recovered well!

    Are the pygmy sundews temporate or tropical sub tropical?? Wanna figure out what the best would be to have outside all year with my vft and sarracenia in a temperate climate

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  2 года назад +1

      They are sub-tropical. I keep mine in the greenhouse year round and treat as annuals. Harvesting and sowing gemmae once they produce it in cooler months to start next years generation. I have found however some adult plants do survive the winter despite the cold

      ruclips.net/video/lbRCdJ8ZNF0/видео.html. Also try (if available where you are) BioAdvanced 3-in-1 Insect, Disease & Mite Control.

      @carnivorous_plant_girl  3 года назад +2

      I firstly start by simply picking them off if they have newly appeared. On large scales then provanto bug killer works good or biocontrol methods such as buying ladybugs
