  • A short video showing off the first signs of life in my outside bog barrels. Despite a short start to the year the plants are finally starting to take off outside.

WOW, never saw a Venus Fly Trap flowering in May before! I have read they flower in their native habitat in February! I guess the science of Phenology puts your location about 3 months behind !

Do your bog barrels have drainage holes?

Do you have a video of how you put the bog together?

No I never made a video of when I made these. I do have an article on how you can put one together and the process I used when I made mine on my Blog (The Carnivorous Greenhouse)

In your experience, how many pitchers does a medium sized sarracenia rhizome produce? My sarracenia seems to only have one pitcher developing at the moment.

It really is dependant on the plant. I’ve seen flavas produce several pitchers from one medium rhizome. Whereas I have some leucophyllas and flava rubricorpras which one produce one or two pitchers on a medium-large rhizome in a year. Each Sarracenia is different and some produce more than others
